Straight people get first loves. teen romance. childhood friends to lovers. high school soulmates. They are very rarely given an entire character ending revolving around “sometimes your crush doesn’t like you back, and that’s okay.” Because that is bland. And writers know that. Even though with both straight and gay people this is a common teen experience.

But when it comes to gay representation, our storylines have to be turned into “realistic life lessons.” Can’t we just have a beautiful love story?

Made our bingo boards for the vol 2 watch party!!

I’m making my brother watch Stranger Things for the first time so he can join my sister and I’s watch party for vol 2 on Christmas. We just finished s1 and these are his thoughts so far:

- Dustin is his favorite by a LANDSLIDE. He kept saying “Dustin’s my spirit animal, he gets me.”

- His favorite quote was “Not his funeral, screw his funeral!”

- He IMMEDIATELY clocked Mike’s gay ass. When Lucas started teasing Mike about liking El he turned to me and said “Lucas can’t fool me I KNOW that Mike’s gay as hell”

- Was DEVASTATED by the Will flashbacks. Kept muttering “he’s just a baby” every time Will was on screen

- He adored Lucas and laughed really hard at the “EAT SHIT!!” scene

- He didn’t really comment on Hopper and Joyce a lot, I’ll have to ask him what he thinks about them during s2

- He hated Lonnie (as he should). When they revealed he was only there for the money he yelled “OH YOU PIECE OF SHIT” and applauded Joyce when she kicked him out.

- He wanted Nancy to kiss Jonathan SO bad. He outright kept telling her to just cheat on Steve it was hilarious

- Literally yelled “WHAT THE FUCK?!??” at the top of his lungs when Mike kissed El

Overall he really enjoyed it, we’re gonna start s2 soon and I will update his opinions as we continue

I FORGOT TO UPDATE AFTER S2 but here’s his thoughts for s2 AND s3

Season 2:

- REALLY wanted Nancy to break up with Steve for the entire season

- Him: “What season does Billy die again?”

Me: “Season 3.”

Him: “…damnit.”

- *During the Crazy Together scene* “Mike just kiss him already we all know you wanna.”

- Clowned on Billy for being a racist

- Every time El showed up he had to make a comment on how stinking cute she was with her curly hair. I couldn’t agree more

- Yelled “FINALLY!” when Jancy kissed

- Did NOT like the idea of Brenner still being alive (he’s not ready for s4)

- *after watching the “do you remember the first day that we met?” scene* “If they don’t kiss I’m gonna turn into Terry Ives.” (I DIED when he said that)

- *At the mileven reunion* “Mike stop looking at her like that we all know you love Will.”

- When Billy showed up at the Wheeler house and the romantic music started playing he turned to me with eyes full of horror and said “PLEASE tell me this isn’t gonna be a thing.”

- *when Billy showed up at the Byers* “Steve, cut off this man’s balls.”

- After they got the MF out of Will, he turned to me and asked “Is it gonna come back?” and I had to be like “WHAATTTTT noooo that’s crazy”

And here’s his s3 thoughts:

- Was DISGUSTED by the mileven makeout (as he should)

- Did NOT appreciate the Billy and Karen subplot continuing

- Immediately shipped Robin and Steve (he had no idea and I wasn’t gonna spoil it early)

- HATED the exploding rats

- *Mike screaming on the couch in ep 2* “Me since Mike and Will aren’t together.”

- He LOVED the scene of Mr Clarke listening to Weird Al (he’s a major Weird Al fan)

- He agreed with me that the rat gore looked like jam

- Made fun of Billy the whole time

- “Oh I love that outfit!” when El came out in her iconic black jumper

- El: “I dump your ass.” My brother: “OHHHHH!!!”

- *when Billy brings Heather into the basement* “someone kill this bitch.”

- He loved Will’s wizard outfit it was great

- Made a big sad face when Will stormed out of Mike’s basement

- After Will stormed off after the rain fight he yelled “Mike chase after him!! Kiss him and apologize!”

- Steve & Dustin: “Evil Russian.” My brother: “Or maybe he’s just heading to gym class!”

- *when Will destroys Castle Byers* “Top 10 saddest anime breakups.”

- Kept yelling “STOP LYING, MIKE!” every time he was talking to El

- Our parents were in the room when Robin’s coming out scene played and my brother didn’t say anything but after Robin said “Steve…” my mom said “Think about it, dumbass.” I DIED

- “Bye bye Billy.” with the goofiest grin on his face when Billy died

- Yelled “WHY ARE YOUR EYES OPEN???!!” during the final mileven kiss

His favorite season so far is season 2. His favorite characters are Dustin, El, and Will, and we’re gonna be starting s4 tomorrow. Idk if we’ll get through all of it AND the first volume of s5 before Christmas but we’re damn sure gonna try.

FINISHED S4!!!

- “Who’s this?? …NO FUCKING WAY THAT BITCH SURVIVED.” during the opening scene of Brenner

- He saw the establishing shot saying it was March 21 and he turned to me and said “Hey that means it’s Will’s birthday tomorrow!!” Oh my poor sweet summer child-

- Every time Chrissy came on screen he started singing Chrissy Wake Up

- “Why is there a clock in a tree?? How’d that thing get there??”

- “PLEASE tell me that Angela dies.”

- He loved the Sinclair siblings moment at the end of ep 1

- Jason: “She’s as straight as an arrow!”

My brother: “Same can’t be said for Will and Mike.”

- Yelled at Mike for not defending El in the Rink O Mania scene

- Every time Angela was on screen he started flipping her off

- He HATED seeing the Wonder Twins upset and kept saying “she’s / he’s just a baby :(“

- I told him about the music during the Rink O Mania fight being called “In The Closet” and he stood up and walked out of the room yelling “I’m gonna HANG MYSELF!!”

- “She deserved worse.” when El hit Angela with the skate

- “Oh so Victor Creel is Vecna!!” (I was CACKLING)

- “Valid crashout.” after Robin went off on the asylum director

- During the “I didn’t say it”. / “You didn’t have to.” scene he would not stop chanting “KISS. KISS. KISS.” over and over again

- Mike: “It’s Hawkins, it’s not the same without you.”

My brother, turning to me: “Do you have any rope? I need to make a noose-“

- Alice: “It’s so big!”

My brother: “That’s what she said.”

- “RUN MAX!! GET BACK TO LUCAS!!” at the end of ep 4

- He saw One in the lab and he was like “wait is that Vecna??” and I had to gaslight him

- Every time Mike and Will were on screen he started LOSING HIS MIND from the romantic tension

- When they revealed that the upside down was stuck on Nov 6 he turned to me with the biggest “OH SHIT” look on his face

- Him: “Oh shit that kid is dead.”

Me: “Dude ALL the kids are dead.”

- “WAIT DOES ONE TURN INTO VECNA??” after One started killing the other lab kids

- When they revealed One was Henry Creel he turned to me with his jaw on the floor

- He LOST HIS MIND at the painting scene dude. God up and paced the room yelling “WHAT THE FUCK” over and over

- He HATED Jason and kept talking about how he wanted to gouge his eyes out (he was thrilled when Jason died)

- “Is El gonna vecna Vecna??”

- He got REALLY upset during the “Erica, help!” scene. He doesn’t cry during movies/shows but he was very sad

So that’s season’s 1-4!! His favorite character is Dustin, and his personal ranking of the seasons best to worst is 2-1-4-3. We’re gonna watch vol 1 of s5 tomorrow before vol 2 comes out.

We finished vol 1 of s5 just in time!!

- - “VECNAS A CHILD PREDATOR???”

- He was glad that Robin and Vickie got together

- I have Robin’s sweatshirt this season so when my brother saw her wearing it he was like “Hey it’s your sweatshirt!!”

- “Alright stop trying to compete for Nancy.” to Steve and Jonathan during the tower scene

- “Oh shit they’re in the UD???” for the government lab

- He really liked Hopper’s purple shirt and kept saying “I want that shirt.” I CANT

- He is TIRED of the Mileven propaganda it’s hilarious

- Yelled “DONT JUST STAND THERE, RUN!!” at Holly at the beginning of ep 2

- He started quoting Chicago during the scene of Nancy washing the blood of her hands in ep 2

- “Why did she forget Mike??” when Nancy was talking about her Vecna vision

- “When did Trump appear in this show??” when El and Hop found the wall

- He was like “If that’s how I would get to eat every day VECNA TAKE ME NOW.” when watching the breakfast scene w/ Holly and Whatsit

- “Damn” when Nancy threatened to shoot Murray

- “MAX???” at the end of ep 3

- “Why is everyone in this show a PEDOPHILE!!”

- Laughed really loud at the “dick” scene

- During the field scene he pointed at the screen and yelled “BRUSH OF THE ELBOW!!”

- He started LOSING IT during the Byler field scene talk he was rocking back and forth whispering “KISS” over and over

- He REALLY hopes Max escapes (as do we all)

- Mike: “Let’s hope it’s not too hard.”

My brother: “DAWG WHAT-“

- He clocked the iPhone alarm and wouldn’t stop clowning on it

- When Will was writhing on the ground during the MAC-Z battle he said “me if Byler doesn’t become canon”

- “EIGHT???”

- His reaction to the gory death was HILARIOUS

- I want to clarify that my brother isn’t that big of a TV fan. Yeah he watches TV but he watches most things casually. He cracks jokes all the time and that’s what he was doing for a majority of this watchthrough. But guys. I have NEVER in my LIFE seen him THAT locked in on a show. He was dead silent on the edge of his seat LOCKED IN for the last ten minutes. It was INSANE

- “BADASS!!” when Will wiped his nose

- He LOST IT at the last shot with Mike looking at Will he turned to me and was like “THEY NEED TO KISS NOW.”

So now he’s able to join our watch party for vol 2!!
