Prelude to Spring
Before suffering the fate of a fallen women and dying an impoverished death, Lady Emma Hamilton was the mistress of Admiral Horatio Nelson and muse of artists and composers alike. In 1799, “Lady Hamilton was awarded the cross of the Knights of St. John or the Maltese cross by Emperor Paul I of Russia for sending food and money to the starving people of the island of Malta. Consequently she became a Dame of the Order of Malta, frequently wore her decoration to society balls and events and thus began a fashion trend among the less “infamous” of the time.” Wearing a cross was both secular and sacred, but really a matter of style at the time.
The harlequin cross is available on etsy.

Friday jewelry moment of Zen #shake #shakelocket #goldnugget
There is soooo much movement created by chatoyancy, an optical reflectance caused by fibrous inclusions, that tiger’s eye looks like trapped flame in the form of stone. Take your campfire with you wherever you go, in the form of jewels of course. The earrings and brooch are available in my shop.
Pearl Ships Sculptures by Ann Carrington
Entitled “Galleons and Feathers,” Ann Carrington‘s passion for collecting vintage knick knacks and old pearl necklaces from junk shops aided her creation of her majestic galleons. After watching a documentary about a Chinese pearl jewelry, Carrington decided to construct her project in the Spring of 2014, once she acquired enough pearls.
To begin the sculpture, she weaved bracelets, bangles brooches, tiaras, and other ornate jewelry pieces on a metal structure to accentuate the shape of the ships, which sit on an opulent and glamorous sea of pearls. Called White Cloud City and Wing Wo Wave, the ships are named after two pearl factories in China.
Two of my favorite things brought together ever so dramatically, ships and jewels

So dreamy
I would walk around in constant awe of myself too if I was wearing two antique Georgian necklaces, in this case an amethyst riviere and a rubellite tourmaline festoon. Anna Wintour is just so right. The Georgian parure pictured at top is available on Rubylane.

Victorian, plique-a-jour butterfly brooch set with diamonds, sapphires and rubies, a tiny work of art emitting its own light.
Available on eBay.
Bijouterie Fouquet, now installed at the Carnavalet, a bequest of Fouquet himself to the museum for safe keeping. The design for the shop was created by Alphonse Mucha, one of Fouquet's jewelry designers. I love how the fireplace positively puddles in soft folds of fabric, though carved in wood. The ornamental chain with pendants is one of their collaborations (Georges Fouquet, after design by Mucha, circa 1900).
One of Queen Victoria's numerous lockets. For this one, she sat as subject, inscribed 1857.
