Just in case anyone was confused
Ways you can celebrate Yule that arenât just Christmas.
Celebrate on the correct days!:Â Yule is a solstice sabbat, which means itâs on the day before, of, and after the winter solstice*. Itâs NOT December 25th.
Hang all kinds of evergreens everywhere: Do you know why? Because while snow is very pretty at first after a while the never ending blinding white and brown and black starts to drive you slowly insane. Holly and Mistletoe are the two brightest green plants you could get your hands on during winter so of course they were everywhere!
Light a massive bonfire**:Â Itâs dark and cold and everyone is miserable. Burn some shit! If you arenât a heathen then Yule is about the rebirth of the sun god(dess?). Welcome that guy back with the best sun imitation you could get!
Leave feed out for Odinâs Horse: Kids would leave out hay or treats for Odinâs Horse(Sleipnir) to eat while he road in the wild hunt. A gift given means a gift must be returned and so Odin(also known as the parents) would leave treats for the kids. Yes this is where Santa came from.
Make winter clothes: Winter was the time when all the housework was done because, well, you canât plant when the field is under five feet of snow. Clothes were often made during this time and given to the family.
Welcome guests into your home: If there was one thing the Germanic people valued it was hospitality. Friend who has no were to go? Come on over! Your kidâs friend who comes from a tricky home? Why donât they stay a night or two. Everyone is invited!
Anything that still has Yule in the name probably comes from the original:Â Yule log, Yule boar, Yule goat. These are all from the original feast day.Â
Yule is a feast to celebrate the wild hunt: So make a feast!
And finally, throw one hell of a party***:Â Yule is a Norse holiday guys. There was no such thing as a low-key party in that culture. The majority of their myths can be summed up thusly; partying, beating up someone who ruined the partying, partying because they beat someone up. Have fun!
*These are the days I do it because celebrating for 12 days - 2 months is impractical.
**Donât be dumb with fire.
***Donât do anything illegal.
Iâm not a heathen, and also observe Yule very low-key because I still live in my parents house. If there is anything I missed or got wrong please add onto this!
Tarot Tricks
1 - Nervous about a situation? Shuffle and look for The Fool. The two cards on either side will advise you on how to approach it.
2 - Are you looking for a new romance? Shuffle and look for The Lovers and the Ace of Cups. The cards in between will help guide you to finding love.
3 - Looking for a new beginning? Are you ready to start a new venture? Shuffle and find The Magician. The cards on either side will guide you in the right direction.
4 - Doing some soul searching? Find The Hermit. The cards around him will shed some light on your introspection.
5 - Going through some major life changes? Shuffle and find The World. The cards around it will give you the advice you need for this new chapter.Â
6 - Had a confusing dream? Shuffle and look for The Moon. The cards on either side will help you interpret the meaning of it.
Itâs not âfinally folding that mountain of laundry and grudgingly doing those week-old dishesâ, itâs âhonoring Hestia.â
**Reminder that "smudging" is part of a closed practice. Please call it smoke cleansing.
How I make spellcandles
I was making a spell candle for the Imbolc ritual Iâm hosting for the coven tomorrow and figured: why not turn it into a little tutorial? So here is my version of the spell candles!
What you need: (note: I made a candle for creativity and inspiration, so everything matches that goal. Change herbs, colours and stones to match any goal you want/need!)
đŻ a base candle, either white or a colour that works for your goal
đŻ through-and-though coloured candles for dripping in colours that match your goal. I usually use two or three, in this case yellow for happiness and inspiration and orange for creativity
đŻ herbs, I used basil (creativity), rose (passion/motivation), mistletoe (fertility for ideas) and mugwort (creativity)
đŻ small stone chips, I used aventurine, citrine and burnt amethyst (all for creativity)
đŻ oils, I used jasmine (creativity)
đŻ ribbon and charm (optional, but pretty!)
đŻ baking paper to protect your work surface
Start with carving some words or symbols into the candle. Today I used a bindrune for creativity, the runes kenaz (inner fire), wunjo (happiness) and gebo (gift).
Now drip the first colour. Make sure to first go around the edges for the pretty drips and then fill in the top.
Next are the herbs, stones and oil. Simply sprinkle them on top and arrange the bigger pieces so they are spread out a bit. Press the stones gently down into the still soft wax for sturdyness.
Drip the last colour, making sure to set but not drown the herbs, and tadaa! One pretty spellcandle! But wait, thereâs more!
Tie the ribbon around the candle with one knot.
Slide on your charm and knot again, fitting it snuggly against the candle.
Make a pretty bow and trim the ends, and youâre done!
Burn it during your spell (note: remove the ribbon before it catches and reuse it!), place it on your altar or even make them to give away as gifts!
Also, feel free to tag me if you make one with the tutorial, Iâd love to see them! đ
I got tired of people clumping paganism and Wicca together as one umbrella thing so I made a Venn Diagram to express my disappointment.
Note: Neo-Wicca is the same as normal Wicca but it doesnât require coven ties or adhering strictly to a single path.
me, knowing fully well that the fool in a tarot deck does not mean Iâm a fool: oh look, my tarot deck is calling me a fool again
For starters, if you donât know who Crowley was (no, not the Supernatural dude), he was a 1900s occultist who coined a portion of what modern witchcraft uses today, such as the word âmagickâ which he, although did not âinventâ, popularised. (youâll learn why I denounce that term and try to educate people who use it in a second). He was, in a nutshell, everything modern society hates. Racist, antisemitic, sexist, you name it and Crowley was it.Â
Crowley wrote several books about the occult, some of them having slightly useful information and still are referenced today, but his occult books are not what I intend to talk about. Little known to most, Crowley wrote an essay entitled âThe Jewish Problemâ, that title is enough of a disgrace, but what is actually IN the writing is atrocious, which I will be going over in a second. In other writing, he refers to Jewish people as âparasitesâ, âa barbarous raceâ, talks about how Jewish people are their bad stereotypes, among other things. This article does a wonderful job of compiling some of his worst quotes and explaining how racist he really is, as well as explaining some of the undertones of the quotes.
âChristians and other troglodytes â but most especially the parasites of man, the Jews (The New Comment on Liber AL, III:11)âÂ
âthe Jews were an entirely barbarous race, incapable of any spiritual pursuit. (preface to 777, printed in The Equinox, Vol. 1, No. 8)â
âA similar case is presented by the Jew, who really does only too often possess the bad qualities for which he is disliked (Confessions, chapter 54)â
âBut in America, the Christian elements have been removed so that wealthy Jews may reach the summit of masonry. (Confessions, chapter 72)â
âIt has been said that every nation has the government which it deserves. I would add, the type of Jew which it deserves. (Confessions, chapter 61)â
âthe Jews are a critically important factor in the social and economic problems of the day (Confessions, chapter 75)â
Anyway, he also used to throw slurs at his Jewish friend Victor Neuburg and admitted to being interested in fascism multiple times.
As for quotes from The Jewish Problem:Â
âIsrael has corrupted the world, whether by conquest, by conversion, or by conspiracy. The Jew has eaten his way into everything.âÂ
âThe Jew, living so long on sufferance, by subterfuge, servility, and self-effacement, has taught his tricks to the whole world.â
And many, many, many more.Â
Some of his comments on other groups of people:Â
About Chinese people: âOne cannot fraternize with the Chinese of the lower classes; one must treat them with absolute contempt and callousnessâ / âThe Chinese does not respect the white man as the Indian does â for his possession of high moral qualities.âÂ
About Mexican people:Â âNeither the coyotes nor the turkey-buzzards will touch a dead Mexican. His flesh has been too thoroughly impregnated with chillies and other pungent condiments.â
About black people:Â âWhere Islam and Christianity meet in open competition, as in some parts of Africa, it is found that only the lowest type of Negro, such as is accustomed to arrange matters with conscience by hanging a rag on a piece of stick, accepts Christianityâ
About Indian people:Â âI am not fond of Benaglis at the best and he as the worst specimen of his race I have ever seen. He was fat and oily, with small piglike treacherous eyes.â
Crowley also heavily used the term âblack magicâ in reference to the âdark artâ types of witchcraft, this term is now considered racist by a good portion of the community. Not to mention he was also a regular user of the N slur! Iâm talking hard-R.
He was also heavily misogynistic and sexist, as if the dude wasnât enough of a crapshoot. Here is a list of all the gross, sexist things heâs said!Â
Anyway,
I never much liked the usage of magic with a K to start with, but Iâve been learning more and more about AC as time has passed, Iâve started denouncing it entirely and educating people about itâs connections to him as best as I can, most people have no idea how awful he is. Itâs scary to think that someone so despicable is still heavily referenced and worshiped in the Occult community, so I wanted to finally make this post. I am asked a lot about it and why I hate the term âmagickâ so much, now you all know. I hope you will consider using the terms witchcraft, or even just magic rather than adding the K at the end, because we all know what the K stands for now, and who it represents. This is not even the beginning of how awful he was, there is so much more that can be dug up. I encourage you to do it, research him and understand how absolutely terrible he was. Please.Â
In conclusion:Â
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
Special thanks to @alistaires
Y'know, when you think about it, that person who decided to try and hex the moon (emphasis on try) really is like the horrible 2020 version of the "Eggman Pissed On The Moon" copypasta
I hate it here.
Thor is biracial.
Frey, Freyja, Njord and Skadi are immigrants.
Tyr, Hodur, and Odin are all disabled.
Loki and Odin are both queer as fuck.
There are no Nazis in Valhalla.
A blonde hair blue eyes European God is biracial. You people just be making shit up at this point
Thor doesnât have blonde hair and blue eyes my guy but alright
@shatteredangel789 sounds like youâve mixed up Norse Heathenry with Marvel. Thorâs mother is not Frigg, but the jotunn Jord (Earth). Thorâs half Aesir, half Jotunn. Therefore biracial. And although we arenât sure this description refers to skin color the mythology records literally say his motherâs mother was âblack and dark in accordance with her ancestry.â
If you want to be a pop culture Pagan and follow Marvelâs deities, you can but like⌠own it. And keep in mind that Marvel also is consistent with its messages of overcoming racism and discrimination.
And if you donât follow the Eddas, which is also valid, own that. But also own that you are building your own religious beliefs and their built in racism.
Working with Ancient Beings; a response to witchtok
Witchtok has managed to take Group A, unresearched, unseasoned, newbie mystics, and pit them against, well, everyone, but its influenced a resurgence in Group B, the piety posse, who seem to be mostly laymen with a dash of mysticism who say you can't be casual with deities, you need to have the utmost respect at all times, love to parrot "these are ANCIENT beings" and don't seem to understand the Christian influence behind their attitudes at all.
All I want to say is this; there is room for both piety, mysticism, and informality when you work with deities.
1. Recognizing abuse
I have seen. Very sad things on tiktok but probably the worst is normalizing abuse from deities or even passing it off as funny. I cannot make this more clear; if you are unhappy, scared, afraid for your safety or the safety of those around you, if working with a deity makes you feel like they could flip a switch and be a different entity day to day, if they seem obsessed with you or won't leave you alone, if they pressure you over and over to do things you aren't comfortable with them- THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND IT IS NOT OKAY. I'm not saying that deities can never be abusive, but in my experience, this is also most likely not a deity.
You are within your rights to CUT OFF THAT RELATIONSHIP and set BOUNDARIES. Please reach out to someone and get help.
2. To Be Silent
Another thing I'm seeing a lot of is highly personal, skilled mystic work, such as experiences while astral traveling, being shared nearly daily by certain witchtokers.
Let me preface this by saying; you are entitled to your UPG! And you are MORE than allowed to share it!
But when you share something as advanced as astral travel, you need to consider your audience and what messages you're telling them.
Not every experience is meant to be shared so widely, and why? Because the "uninitiated" (read: unexperienced, "baby" witches, even laymen who stumble across your videos on their recommended pages with no intent of finding it) can get ahold of it, and it can be confusing, scary, or give a warped perception of what it means to be a witch, a worshipper, and/or a mystic. Especially in 30 second or less clips that provide zero information about safety and just sort of rattle off UPG. Especially when this UPG is not prefaced as such.
Certain information is best shared in a close circle of friends or a community of people who are like-minded and already know the basics of these things. Tiktok is not that space - anyone can find your videos and if they get enough views they get pushed through to "similar" people who may have ZERO past experiences with witchcraft, polytheism, or paganism at all.
Or else you end up with a lot of people demonizing and ridiculing anything that so much as hints at pushing a boundary of "pure" witchcract or any form of devotion other than solemn and pious worship of the gods. It creates a culture of us vs. them in our own community and even outside it. But I want to specifically address here the in-fighting, the Us, the mystics, VS Them, the piety posse.
3. Puritan Pagans
What I mean when I say "piety posse" is people who in general, I think, mean well. They're trying to address issues in mysticism that are problematic such as the ones I listed above, but also practices that I haven't gotten to touch on yet, like racism, cultural appropriation, sexual abuse, and more. But the way the "pious" go about this is by adopting a stiff-collared, no-nonsense, approach and a more-pagan-than-thou attitude. This is often left over Christian and Catholic mentalities that there is One Way to do things, you must have Respect for the Lord, your God. You must approach Them with reverence and respect at all times - regardless of the cultural background and context in which these deities were originally worshipped. Let me break that down;
- you can be pious and casual at the same time
- deities are incredibly powerful, but over time you may come to see your relationship as that of a close friend
- there is a historical basis for this and it will vary from culture to culture
- you cannot extract a deity from the context in which they were worshipped (IF we have historical evidence of their worship at all; read: Loki) and stamp them with them "Respect and Reverence Always" designation
- Research, Research, Research, and then
- Research, Research, Research
- primary texts, authors who cite their work, authors who are KNOWN to be trustworthy and have no affiliations to any particular cause other than unbiased information
- there is room to go to Starbucks with Hades and Loki AND to be pious and respectful about it
- There is room for adaptation of ancient practices, there is room for revivalism and reconstruction
The way I approach deities and my recommended route is always this;
1. Respect. Always. Just like you would respect another person. Do not approach with demands, I don't even approach with requests right off hand. You wouldn't meet a new person, ask to be friends, and in the same conversation ask for help moving this weekend. Get to know them. Deities have agency, they choose us as much as we choose them. Show them why you want to work with them, ask them what you can do.
2. Research and connect through that research. Lay the groundwork for your practice in reconstruction and let UPG light the way.
3. Question your experiences without discarding them wholesale. Ask Them questions about Who they are and what they want.
4. Give offerings according to custom, and if you feel like Aphrodite wants a cupcake, who are you to deny Her? (Read: Spongecake Gate)
Now, all that being said, this is my preference. But it will vary from deity to deity and culture to culture.
But one thing I want to make extremely clear;
There is room for mysticism and piety.
And the funny thing is, we as a community have had all these conversations before. Its not new news. The same problematic shit was happening when a resurgence of pagans and witches hit Tumblr a few years back, it happened before that, it happened then, its happening now and it will happen again. But as a community we need to foster an environment of caring, encouraging, and well-researched practitioners that can acknowledge mythology but accept interpretation.
This is also by no means comprehensive. Please add on to this and if anyone wants me to address this further in another post, I will because there is so much more I didn't even touch on here that we need to talk about it. I'm all cross-tagging this a ton so I know it gets seen.
Yes or No Tarot Spread
I created a spread!!! Iâm absolutely in love with it even though itâs a tad bit confusing.
The answer to your question (yes/no/maybe). I used a âwill this happen?â type question.
If yes/maybe, when? (Specific timing) you only come to this step if the answer was yes or maybe to your original question.
Is there anything I can do to make this happen/speed this up? (Yes/no/maybe)
If yes/maybe, how? If no, why not?
So to begin, you will need to have a question in mind as you shuffle. It needs to be a yes or a no question! Then, you can proceed with the rest of the cards IF the answer to your questions are positive/undecided. If the answer is no, the reading is over!
For reference to which cards are yes/no/maybe cards, go here. I find this an extremely useful post to refer back to!
For timing with minor arcana cards:
Wands- days
Swords- weeks
Cups- months
Pentacles- a season to a year
For timing with major arcana cards: there are so many different ways to read time with these cards, but I use this method...
I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do! đ

Tapping Into Your Psychic Senses
Every single person on the planet has psychic abilities, but most people never realize that theyâre using them. As Tess Whitehurst says in her book You Are Magical, âThere is almost certainly something you assume that everyone can perceive that is actually a perception that is relatively unique to you.â
For example: you may be a gifted artist. Drawing and painting come naturally to you, and you have an intuitive sense of form and color. You probably know people who claim that they âdonât have an artistic bone in their bodyâ or âcanât even draw a stick figure,â but you canât bring yourself to believe it. Surely, those people are just psyching themselves out, because if art comes so easily to you, everyone must be able to do it to some extent, right?
Psychic abilities are similar. Youâve probably been tapping into at least one psychic sense all your life, but it feels so normal to you that you assume everyone experiences the world this way.
Once you become aware of your innate psychic abilities, you can start to harness them. For this reason, I think itâs a good idea to become familiar with (and comfortable using!) your natural psychic gifts before you try to learn any kind of divination.
Read over the following list of common psychic senses. Does one or more of them sound familiar? Once you recognize which of these you resonate with, focus on strengthening that gift over the next couple of weeks. Youâll be amazed by how easily youâre able to tap into it once you know how!
Clairvoyance: Clear Seeing
Contrary to popular opinion, the word âclairvoyanceâ does not describe any and all psychic abilities. Someone with clairvoyance receives psychic messages through their sense of sight. They may see these messages with their physical eyes, or see images in their mindâs eye. Seeing auras is an example of clairvoyance in action.
You may be clairvoyant ifâŚ
You often see flashes of light, blurred figures, or other visual phenomena that others do not see. [Note: This is NOT the same as visual hallucinations. Clairvoyants typically see things with their mindâs eye, not their physical eyes, and can differentiate between their visions and what is physically in front of them.]
You often experience random mental images that seem to have nothing to do with whatâs going on around you.
Your meditations are primarily visual â for example, if you meditate on the element of water, you may see a bubbling fountain in your mindâs eye.
You are a visual learner.
Ways to Strengthen Clairvoyance
Keep a journal of the mental images you receive âout of nowhere.â Do these images mean anything to you? Do individual visions fit into a larger pattern?
Meditate on your chakras, and visualize each chakra in your mindâs eye, starting from the root and working up to the crown. What do your chakras look like? Are the colors bright and clear, or more faded and muddy? Are some spinning faster or slower than others? How does their appearance correspond to your life? For example, a muddy or faded sacral chakra may indicate issues around sexuality.
Do research into auras and what the different aura colors mean. Do you always seem to see or think of a certain color when youâre around a certain person? How does that color represent that personâs energy and personality? Write down your findings.
Clairaudience: Clear Hearing
Someone with clairaudience receives psychic messages through their sense of hearing. They may hear messages with their physical ears or âhearâ them in their mind. A medium who hears spirits is an example of someone using clairaudience.
You may be clairaudient ifâŚ
You sometimes âhearâ things in your mind, as if someone else was talking to you from inside your head. [Note: This is NOT the same as âhearing voicesâ or auditory hallucinations. Clairaudients usually âhearâ messages with their mind, not their physical ears, and they can distinguish between psychic messages and physical, âreal worldâ sounds.]
Sometimes, when you listen to music or watch a movie, a specific lyric or line of dialogue seems to jump out at you, as if it were a special message.
Your meditations are primarily auditory â for example, if you meditate on the element of water, you may hear a babbling brook.
You are an auditory learner.
Ways to Strengthen Clairaudience
Keep a journal of the messages you âhearâ out of nowhere. Are they consistent, forming a larger pattern? Do they all seem to be âin the same voice,â or coming from the same source? (If so, this could be a deity or spirit guide reaching out to you.)
Do a meditation with the intention of holding a conversation with a helpful spirit guide. (If you are not comfortable working with spirits, you can set the intention of speaking to your inner self.) What does their voice sound like? Is it different from or similar to your own? Do they speak with an accent or have a unique inflection? Write down your thoughts.
Experiment with shufflemancy. This is a modern form of divination where you put a playlist on shuffle and receive a psychic message from the song that plays first. (You can find playlists specifically made for shufflemancy online, or make your own.) How does the song make you feel? Are there certain lyrics that jump out to you? Write down your thoughts.
Clairsentience: Clear Feeling
Someone with clairsentience feels psychic messages, either through their body or through their emotions. They may feel physical sensations, like an upset stomach, or may be very sensitive to emotional energies. Intuitively picking up on someoneâs emotions without needing to ask is an example of clairsentience.
You may be clairsentient ifâŚ
You often feel physical sensations, like a hot flash or a cold chill, out of nowhere.
You are able to feel other peopleâs emotions â you can always tell when someone has had a bad day, even if theyâre trying to hide it.
You can sense the âvibeâ of a room as soon as you walk in. Do certain buildings feel âangryâ or âsadâ to you? Can you always tell the energy of a party even if you just arrived?
Your meditations primarily focus on tactile sensations â for example, if you meditate on the element of water, you may feel waves lapping at your feet.
Ways to Strengthen Clairsentience
Pay attention to your âgut feelings.â Do you feel a sinking sensation when thinking about something, only for it to go badly later? Do you feel a warm, fuzzy sensation thinking about something, only for it to go really well? Write down your experiences â and be honest. Itâs okay if your gut feeling doesnât always match the outcome.
Do a pathworking meditation (this is just a type of meditation that focuses on taking a mental journey) to a forest, or a beach, or some other location that appeals to you. Try to feel as many tactile sensations as possible, as if you were really there. Feel the grass or sand under your feet, feel the wind in your hair, feel the sun on your skin. Write down your experience.
Practice feeling the energy of a plant or crystal. Reach out and touch the plant/crystal, and try to feel it out. Does it have a calm, stable energy, or is it more bright and zingy? Try feeling a different plant/crystal and see how it feels different. Write down your experience.
Note: Some (but not all) clairsentients are also empaths, people who take on the emotions of others as if they were their own. All empaths are clairsentient, but not all clairsentient people are empaths. You may be an empath if you often find yourself matching the emotions of the people youâre around â you cry when they cry, laugh when they laugh, etc.
Claircognizance: Clear Knowing
Claircognizence is the gift of psychic knowing â people with this ability often âjust knowâ things, even if they should have no way of knowing. They may know what someone is about to say before they say it, or know personal information about someone they just met.
You may be claircognizant ifâŚ
You âjust knowâ whatâs going on with your friends and family, even if they havenât told you. For example, you may suddenly feel like you need to call your sister, only to find out after you call that she just broke up with her boyfriend.
You always know who a text is from as soon as your phone dings, or always know what song is going to play next on shuffle.
You often know things about new people as soon as you meet them, only for them to confirm it later. Did you know your friend was a vegetarian before he told you, even though youâd never shared a meal with him?
Your meditations often include âdownloadsâ of information, where you feel like the answer to your question or some other revelation has just been dropped into your brain.
Ways to Strengthen Claircognizance
Every time your phone goes off, try to guess who the message is from. Keep a tally of how often youâre right vs. wrong.
Do a meditation with the intention of receiving the answer to a specific question. Retreat to a place of stillness and focus on your breath until the answer to the question âjust comes to you.â Write down your experience.
This is a game I used to play with my sister before I knew what claircognizance was: have a friend show you a picture of someone they know, but whom you have never met before. Focus on the picture, and see if you get any info about the person â are they a jock? Do they like rock music? Whatâs their personality like? Get your friend to confirm or deny the info you got from the picture, and keep a tally of how often youâre right vs. wrong.
The Other Clairs
There are two other âclairâ senses that are less common, so Iâm not going to talk about them at length here. Clairalience, or âclear smelling,â refers to receiving psychic messages through smell. (If you smell roses out of nowhere, with no roses in sight, you may be using clairalience.) Clairgustance, or âclear tasting,â refers to receiving psychic messages through taste. (If you taste chocolate out of nowhere, you may be using claigustance.)
In my experience, these psychic senses are less common than the ones listed above. Most people I know who have clairalience or clairgustance seem to use it as a secondary sense, in addition to a primary sense like clairvoyance or clairsentience.
Conclusion
You are probably using at least one of these psychic senses every day, without even knowing it. Most people have two to three âmainâ psychic senses, but some may regularly and easily use all of them. For example, my primary psychic senses are clairsentience and claircognizance, but I also find myself receiving messages through clairaudience fairly often. Itâs rare for me to receive clairvoyant messages, but it has happened.
Once youâve identified the psychic senses that you naturally lean towards, you can begin to develop and strengthen them.
