telling me that you want to explore the possibilities of shipping with me isn’t forcing a ship with me. sending me a ship-related meme to test the waters isn’t forcing a ship on me. writing me a starter and having your muse refer to mine as a significant other / and or insinuating that my muse feels something for him/her without discussing it with me first is totally forcing a ship on me. so please, send me all the ship memes you want, come to my inbox and yell about shipping our muses; i love that shit.

it’s always a strange feeling to run into someone you used to know, after so much time has passed. adding stress to that situation rarely ever helps the memory, and yet, kneeling out of the way of the men in masks currently holding up the bank he’s in, frederick can’t help but think that there’s something familiar in the gait of the woman commanding the show. something in the bounce of her heel, something in the curve of her neck, and it doesn’t hit him until she turns around and he stupidly blurts out, “ wait, aren’t you a doctor ?? ” going off of her outfit, he can assume the answer is ‘not anymore’.
our offer just went up to 25; go to trial if you don’t like it.

carisiisms:
one battle that sonny learned to rarely fight was the selection of music – not that he didn’t enjoy whatever frederick chose in one way or another but there was only so much beastie boys, pearl jam or jane’s addiction that he thought frederick could endure. so those choices were left for when sonny was at home alone and could blast through their stereo system as loud as he wanted.
“ thanks, babe. ” he muttered as he took the manhattan frederick offered him and took a sip. “ thanks! it’s something along the lines of what we would’ve had at my parents. i’ll fix up a salad too. ” that way frederick couldn’t complain about it just being pasta and how his metabolism wasn’t anything near sonny’s. then again, sonny did go to the gym far more than frederick did.
sonny stepped back and put his hand on the back of frederick’s neck, offering an affectionate squeeze. “ did i tell you that i’ll be out of town next week? some training thing in boston that i have to go to. ” through everything, he might’ve forgotten to tell him what he had found out at work this morning.
this was better. this was normal. the two of them side-by-side in their kitchen, stepping around each other like it was a dance. they’d bumped into each other a lot when they’d still been in their respective apartments, knocked hands, hit one another in the elbow with a pot as they moved it to the stove. here, they’d developed a rhythm.
“ i can make the salad, if you want. ” he offered, absently sipping at his manhattan.
he thought it over, trying to remember if he’d heard the news. “ no, i don’t think you told me. ” frederick replied finally. he’d only ever been to boston a handful of times himself, and only ever to lend his expert testimony to the suffolk county da’s office. “ do you know when you leave? ”
i haven’t posted one of these since i rebooted, so here’s a STARTER CALL !!

LIKEWISE – that was a very frederick thing to say and it was another example of how different they were. sonny could be over affectionate and, although he doesn’t like the word, smothering. he could get away with it here and there but he’s learned when he can press his luck and when he needed to leave frederick alone. he’s gotten better at sussing out what kind of mood frederick was in but even now, he was no master at it. there were times where his boyfriend was still hard to read and he’d make the wrong assessment.
frederick offered him affection in his own way; he made a point to kiss him properly and fixed his shirt. it made sonny smile, even as he was shooed away to the kitchen where he could figure out what to make for dinner. “ yeah, whatever you’re having. ” sonny called out as he was unaware of frederick looking at him because he was busy gathering what he needed to make his creamy garlic pasta with roasted tomatoes. sonny rolled up his sleeves and got to work, soon hearing frederick’s record choice and he smiled to himself. now this is what their night should’ve been. relaxed, in their own home and just enjoying the simple things in life when the world around them, including themselves at times, were so complicated. “ hope you’re hungry for pasta! ” he called out to him once it was already too late to go back and cook something different.
frederick finally found the album he’d been absently searching for; machito at the crescendo. it was perfect. upbeat enough to keep the mood from turning sappy or melancholic, yet when played softly it didn’t distract. the fact that the record was in spanish was another bonus — it was a comfort for frederick & background noise for sonny. as much as he loved disco, new wave, and 80s pop, he thought this’d be a better fit.
he started them on the b-side, then stood and walked to the bar cart in the corner of their living room. he did occasionally miss the wine cellar he’d had back in baltimore, but they were well-stocked here, and he preferred their apartment to the stark emptiness of his old house. he mixed them a manhattan each, garnishing sonny’s with a cherry and leaving his unadorned. he drank his quickly, embarrassingly so, and mixed another while he listened to sonny cooking & the record play.
“ pasta’s fine. ” he said, bringing sonny his drink. frederick leaned in, peering over the edges of pots and pans to survey the dinner ahead of them. “ everything smells delicious. ”

he blamed jack crawford. he blamed the memphis police. he blamed clarice starling. and, in some small part, he blamed himself — the police didn’t know lecter, the police didn’t understand lecter. frederick didn’t either, not really, but at the very least he knew better. he’d been brought to the crime scene in that courthouse, looked at those guard’s mangled bodies, and felt the floor fall out from under him.
he swallowed back bile and excused himself, saying he needed to make a phone call. in the safety of his roadster he made three phone calls before booking himself a return ticket to baltimore that night, and a one-way ticket to jamaica for the end of the week. he remained in his car for a few moments after that, motionless as the reality of it all set in, before he could force himself to start the engine and set off for the airport.
in baltimore he tidied up his affairs, formally put in for a vacation with the hospital, and left his secretary with a list of people to call should he go missing. it only contained three names, and writing it down had nearly sent him to tears. he packed as though he was planning on never returning, and in all honesty, some part of him wasn’t. they would catch hannibal, he told himself, like repeating a mantra. but...
but, if they didn’t, hannibal was likely to go to europe. once frederick caught word of some bizarre and artful killings in berlin or prague, then he’d return to baltimore. it seemed like a safe plan, and he had enough in his savings to hide away in jamaica for a good, long while. let jack deal with this mess, he thought. and so he left. he locked his door, left his roadster in his garage, and called a taxi to take him to the airport.
his flight landed later than he’d thought it would, at almost nine at night. despite having not needed a cane in years, he almost felt unsteady on his feet as he hurried through the crush of people towards the line of taxi cabs. while loading his bags into the back of one he felt himself glancing over his shoulder, paranoid. frederick sighed. he needed a strong drink and a long nap.
neither would come to him right away, though. the first order of business once at his hotel ( which he’d booked for a quite reasonable rate while still in baltimore ) was to get his bags sorted away. the second was to shower and change into more weather-appropriate attire. finally, the third was to find a bar. the one nearest to his room was outdoors, poolside, and also beach-side, with a looping trail leading down towards the water. he was glad he’d worn sandals.
he took his drink in hand and went about traversing the path to the beach. the light from the hotel and the pool spilled far enough that he didn’t have to worry about tripping over anything in the dark, and also looked as though it would serve quite well as a beacon, should he wander further afield. at the water’s edge he stretched his arms skyward, gazing out over the water. had he come for any other reason, this would’ve made for a lovely vacation. he made a note to buy a postcard or two at some point, and took a long sip of his drink.
