The Stigma veterans feel when they ask for help
Veterans transitioning to civilian life, have the goal of gaining normalcy. The Veterans Administration creates stigma for veterans when they face a program "Gatekeeper." and have to justify their need for assistance.
For many veterans, the most daunting task of returning to civilian life after service is having to change their profession. Educational benefits for returning veterans are available for this purpose, however, some disabled veterans need more help.
While the Vocation Rehabilitation, (Voc-Rehab) program is intended to support and facilitate education for service disabled veterans, numerous barriers still exist. Some veterans don’t know how to ask and are consequently denied services, others are discredited by the procedure, protocol or caseworkers. In other words, the system that is designed to support veterans is actually discouraging and denying many vets of resources
