The gavel was missing. Again. If it belonged to anyone besides Wes this would come as a complete surprise but the elder Warbler was used to it. He was well aware that his fellow Warblers found the wooden instrument annoying. Trent even made a joke that Wes would never have a girlfriend or boyfriend because he was devoted whole-heartedly to his gavel. While he accepted that this was going to be a long running joke with the Warblers Wes was slightly disturbed at just how attached he was to said gavel.
The last time it went missing the entire group of boys had been locked in Warbler Hall and frisked until Jeff finally admitted he’d hidden the gavel under a loose floorboard in his and Nick’s dorm room. Wes had admitted it was a slip in judgment. The jokes however hadn’t stopped since then.
However since then Wes had learned not to leave Cherry (yes the gavel had a name. Thad was sure his friend was losing his mind but Wes claimed it was just because the gavel was made of Sherry wood) alone when Jeff was the only Warbler left around. Being one of the younger members of the glee club and one of the younger students Jeff was prone to pulling pranks and jokes on the other boys. They took it in stride saying that he was a kid and kids pulled pranks. Which is why the first place Wes searched for Sherry was in Jeff and Nick’s room.
“Where’s Cherry?”
Jeff blinked as he opened the door to his and Nick’s dorm room tilting his head in confusion before he realized Wes was talking about the gavel. “Two things Wes. Number one: Stop calling your gavel Cherry. It’s weird and makes you look crazier,”
“I told you already it’s not her…I mean it’s name. It is made of Cherry wood,” Wes muttered before he blinked. “Wait crazier? You think I’m crazy?”
“You love that gavel more than life itself.”
“That’s not entirely true.”
“It is and you know it. Number two: Why do you always assume I took it?”
“Because you took it last time?”
Jeff shrugged as he ran a hand through his short blonde hair. “Your point? You freaked me out last time. I learned. I’m a good listener.”
“Since about five minutes ago.”
There was a slight pause in which Wes and Jeff stared each other down. Wes was admittedly impressed the younger boy didn’t flinch under his gaze. Stronger men had crumbled under Wes’ glare when Sherry was involved. And by stronger men he meant David and Thad. “I’m searching your room anyway,” he muttered as he shouldered his way into the dorm.
“Do you have a warrant?” Jeff asked as he turned to watch as Wes threw things around the room.
There was silence for a moment as Wes actually contemplated getting a warrant before he threw Jeff a withering glare. “Shut up and show me that stupid floorboard,” he muttered.
“The loose one? You had it fixed after last time remember? In fact I think you did it yourself.”
Wes turned around so quickly he almost tripped over his own feet earning a snicker from the new addition to the conversation. “Duval. I don’t remember that,” he muttered.
Nick shrugged slightly as he leaned against the doorframe next to Jeff. “You did. I recall you using a really big hammer and nailing your blazer to the floor,” he answered earning a snort of laughter from Jeff.
Wes rolled his eyes as he folded his arms across his chest. “Where is Cherry Nick?” he asked as he tried his hardest (and ultimately failed) to glare at the smaller boy.
Nick merely shrugged and ran a hand through his hair. “No idea. Why do you always assume it was one of us?”
“I feel like I should be offended but really all I feel is pride. I’m proud we’re number one on your list,” Nick said with a grin.
“You shouldn’t be.”
“Yet here we are all the same.”
“I just want Cherry back. Where is sh-the Gavel?”
There was a pause as Jeff seemed to consider pointing out that Wes had once again referred to his gavel as if it was a living person but he shook his head wisely deciding against it. “I’m sure it’s under the pile of clothes David leaves in your room. He’s messier than I am,” he said with a shrug.
Wes paused as he considered the idea before he nodded in agreement. “Yeah. Yeah you’re probably right. Sorry to bother you guys. See you tomorrow.”
Nick and Jeff both nodded and murmured a goodbye as Wes stalked off down the hall. The two waited until they were positive Wes was gone before Jeff grinned over at Nick.
“You totally hid it didn’t you?”
A proud grin spread across Nick’s face and he nodded as he walked into their room and shut the door behind them. “Yup. Pretty badass place if you ask me.” He answered with a laugh.
“There’s a loose tile in the ceiling of that closet no one goes into at the back of Warbler Hall.”
“Nice! He’ll never look there!”
“Dude. We’re awesome,” Nick said as he gave Jeff a high five.
Jeff nodded in agreement as he flopped on his bed. “Yeah. Yeah we are.”
[My friend gave me this idea while we were sitting bored in the living room of her house. I decided I was bored enough to write it. Enjoy! I love Jeff and Nick with all my heart haha. Three Six Mafia yo.]
