Dodger makes a face, ducking his head at being caught so easily. At least the bloke catches on quick, it is so much easier to deal with folks who could put the dots together all on their lonesome. Opening the bottle, he takes a sip before answering.

“Mayhap. And I–you don’t have to take it if you don’t want to. I know what it’s like needing to make rent.”

“ Look, I knew before I invited you in that you needed something. I wouldn’t have done that if I wasn’t going to try to help. ”

He’d been down on his luck before. Harry knew what it was like, being stuck in a wedge that didn’t leave much wiggle room, which sometimes didn’t let you move at all. It was suffocating and terrifying, and if he hadn’t had the kindness of a stranger -- whom he had thought to be a stranger at the time, at least -- he wouldn’t be standing here talking to this kid now.

That was new. And a nice change of pace actually. Usually people’s reactions were the opposite, finding issue with the time travel, not even letting him get to the medical aspects of it. “2007. Right, okay– see what I have is genetic. Apparently. I mean, I don’t think anyone else in my family has it. I haven’t heard of it. But CDP is some… sorta… weird genetic anomaly. Ah, thing.”

“ Jesus. ”

This complicated things. Not that Dresden was a big fan of the black-and-white tint that the wizarding laws were executed with (literally), but forbidding time travel— it had definitely made the most sense to him. That kind of power was dangerous and unstable, and as far as Harry was concerned did more harm than good. He hadn’t imagined there would be somebody who could do it by accident, without premeditation and meticulous preparation, but if there were some people running around who couldn’t control it…

“ Damn it. Okay. How long does this usually last? Are you gonna beam outta here in a like, minute, or do you need some place to stay? ”

Hell, if it didn’t exist, the White Council wouldn’t have made it against the Laws. No, time travel was something he definitely knew was possible, even if he had no idea how to go about implementing it.

Scully had fallen into arguing semantics again, something that she often caught herself doing - missing the bigger picture and larger purpose for the sake of rogue details.

“ - It’s not possible to nail time of disappearance that exactly in a case like this. There are no surveillance or records aside from testimonies and circumstantial evidence. There’s nothing that leads me to claim that anything about the timing is that exact.”

“ Yeah, that’s sorta my point. We add an extra day. I’m pretty sure nature doesn’t give a fuck if the seasons shift every couple of decades. ”

Harry rubbed at his face with a sigh he couldn’t quite suppress. He knew how he looked. Bedraggled and dirty — he hadn’t gotten more than five hours of sleep in the past couple of days, hadn’t showered since yesterday morning. He could feel the bruises forming up along his left side from an altercation the night before, and while she couldn’t see those, no, they made him hold himself more stiffly. He gave off the appearance of an unstable person at best and a thug at worst, but he really didn’t have the time to sit idly by and keep arguing with her. He let his hands slump back down to his sides.

“ Look, you’re not going to arrest me. You’d have done it already, and I’ve got things I’ve gotta do before tonight if I’m going to have any chance of finding those kids alive. I’m going home. We gonna have a problem? ”

Literally. He has enough trouble with the CPD without them tacking serving alchol to minors to the end of the files they undoubtedly have on him. Dresden pops off the lid to his and takes a long swig, grunting as he stands, knees cracking.

“ So. That jab about people not having the money to hire me. Is that why you’re here? ”

While Mouse is able to pass for a large (even for the species) Tibetan Mastiff, he is actually a temple dog -- a half-mortal descendent of a divine spirit guardian known as a Foo Dog. Mouse is generally quiet, laid-back, and easy-tempered, but when there is a dangerous supernatural entity nearby, or if Harry is threatened, that peaceful countenance fades into something much more formidable and deadly.

Fiercely loyal, Mouse is one of Dresden’s constant supports in his struggle against the multiple malevolent beings that threaten his city and planet. But he is still, also, a dog, and if you’d like to give him a belly rub -- well, he won’t say no.
