power loss in whump

- formerly invulnerable characters taken out of a fight by minor injuries, or bedridden for days with the first cold they've ever had

- magic users who used to be uniquely powerful now dangerously exhausted by basic spells

- elemental mages feeling the effects of weather for the first time in ages: bundling up in the winter and shivering despite their layers, sweating through their clothes in mild summer warmth

- characters with former access to eldritch, otherworldly knowledge now struggling with their memory

- caretakers who've lost their healing powers watching helplessly, desperately as their teammates and friends bleed out

- nosebleeds from pushing themself past their new limits

- fainting after straining to access a power that used to come as easy as breathing

- an unfillable emptiness inside, where their power used to lay. what lengths are they willing to go to to fill that hollow?

sore throats in whump

- raspy voices, lower and huskier than normal

- every bit of food or sip of water feels like swallowing glass

- maybe to the point they can't eat at all

- talkative and charismatic characters reduced to single syllable words, grunts, and exhausted body language

- throats so sore from screaming that their cries of pain come out cracked and weak

- caretaker bringing out their home remedies: tea and honey, warm salt water, popsicles, nasty herbal tinctures, etc

my hyperspecific whump daydream rn is a touch averse whumpee with a head injury getting their wound cleaned and hair washed in a sink (preferably by an equally touch averse caretaker)

just the initial, instinctive tension of being in a vulnerable position where you have no choice but to let someone touch you. tiny flinches from the stinging of the disinfectant and soap. both people involved quiet and determined to get through this with as little physical contact and awkwardness as possible

but then the warm water and the gentle touch starts to feel... good? and maybe whumpee's hair is soft and caretaker zones out, being a lil more thorough with the shampooing than they strictly need to be. and they both relax, gradually, into a sort of practical intimacy that they'll Definitely Never Do Again

atlas specifically doesn't believe that unconditional love/loyalty exists, something they've said to multiple people! which is why it's SO whenever they do choose to love or trust or be loyal to someone bc it's on purpose! and bc I love to Hurt 'Em, almost every single person they've ever loved or trusted has pushed past their limit and reached their Conditions and lost that trust. this post doesn't have a point anymore really, I'm just so so Emo about my own fucking oc
