Zero Waste Swaps I’m Eager To Make

I’m so excited that James and I are both starting a low waste journey together! Since moving to an apartment that recycles, we decided it was time to embark on lowering our carbon footprint. After following Plastic Free Pursuit on Instagram, I’ve added a small list of items that I want to add to my cart as soon as I finish up their alternatives in my current routine. (All photos below are from Plastic Free Pursuit’s website.)

Reusable Facial Rounds: I use 2-3 cotton rounds every single day to use my Glossier Solution. (Save money on your first Glossier order here!) So, as soon as I finish my remaining two packages of normal cotton rounds, I plan on making this switch. I also love that these are bamboo based. Bamboo can naturally decompose. So if I ever have to replace these, I won’t feel bad if some get ruined.

Bamboo Toothbrush: A little switch but holy moly I’m excited to switch over. Normal tooth brushes don’t last very long. I feel like I’m switching to a new one every few months. Granted, we have been buying a two pack that is under $5. I feel like I’m the last one on the bamboo toothbrush bandwagon, though!

Biodegradable Floss: As silly as this sounds, I never realized that all the floss we are using is just sitting in landfills. So excited to make this switch! Also Plastic Free Pursuit sells refills for the glass jar the first one comes in! Also, my gums get sensitive from normal floss. So I’m eager to see if this floss will be more gentle on my gums.

Reusable Panty Liners: Hopefully one day I will be more comfortable and be able to introduce a menstrual cup into my life. If anyone has any recommendations on which ones to research, let me know! In the meantime, I just purchased biodegradable tampons. So I’m hoping using those in conjunction with a reusable liner, I’ll be set for awhile! These reusable liners are easily washable in the washing machine or in the sink. They even have a simple closure to go around your underwear.

Safety Razor: This is one that we are both so eager to switch over to. James shaves his face often and I shave every other week normally. (Trying to normalize body hair on myself.) We go through too many disposable razors. These safety razors will be much higher quality and significantly easier to clean, as well.

What are some zero waste swaps we should make next?

If I Lost It All, What I’d Repurchase

This was hard, y’all. I really had to sit down and streamline my favorites and choose what I’d immediately go out and repurchase if my entire stash disappeared on me. Here is me speaking into existence that my entire stash doesn’t disappear because ouch my wallet.

Glossier Futuredew: This oil/serum hybrid gives you the glossiest skin of your dreams. I also love that you can cut the recommended amount in half and mix it in with a moisturizer and get a subtle and healthy glow. SO versatile and a product everyone should try at least once.

Drunk Elephant B Hydra: When you run out of a product and you notice a difference in your skin. No really. I ran out of this for a few weeks and my skin was tight and not getting enough moisture. My skin drinks up the hyaluronic acid and B5 that’s in here.

Priming Moisturizer Rich: A standout amongst Glossier skincare, in my opinion. This mixed with Futuredew makes my makeup look so stunning.

Kat Von D Lolita Eyeshadow: We can all put aside our feelings on Kat Von D as a person, okay? This blush/eyeshadow is amazing. The last few years I have loved doing a red smoky eye for nights out. This guy always gives you the sexiest and most sultry sunken in look you want out of a red shadow. I also use this as my blush for every performance I do. It reads beautifully on stage.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer: The best full coverage concealer on the market. There I said it. The lasting power is really nice too. I love that when I get home from a long rehearsal, my acne is still concealed because of this product.

L’Oréal Telescopic Mascara: I’ve used this mascara for so many years. Going on 10, if i’m not mistaken. However, I’m really wanting to find a cruelty free dupe for this guy. Could be more expensive or could be cheaper. If you know of a mascara with an ultra skinny wand that looks/feels like your lashes are getting combed out, let me know. However, this mascara really is bomb. It is super build-able and absolutely a pleasure to use.

Lush Lord of Misrule Shower Gel: My all time favorite scent family from Lush! I absolutely love this shower gel and I use it just about every single day. I love the happy medium of the patchouli and the vanilla. It’s a lovely balance between sweet and spicy.

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask: This mask has made such a difference in my skin. One single pot last anywhere from 6-8 months because you only use it once or twice a week. It has helped with any of the rough texture that is usually left over with my hormonal acne. And, you guessed it, your skin is super glowy after!

Glossier Brow Flick: I bought this a few days after it launched and never looked back. I’d been a Boy Brow lover for several years but my brows were still missing the fluffiness I was desiring. Brow Flick can give super bold and blocky brows or soft and fluffy. I love that it’s so easy to use, as well. I was genuinely concerned I was going to look like I had sharpie on my forehead when I first tried this!

Glossier Boy Brow: Like I just mentioned, I’ve used Boy Brow for many, many years. This will keep my brows in place through shows, long work days, and ever aggressive naps on the couch with dogs licking my face. I wish a little less product came out on the wand, but honestly whatever. The product is still my all time favorite.

Jack Black Lip Balm: The best lip balm ever. Period. My favorite flavor is the mint. I’m an easy girl to please.

January Favorites - 2020

I found some really amazing products this last month. Some old favorites and some completely brand new. Let’s dive in!

Lush Employee Tote: The love I have for this tote is kinda insane. I mean, come on. Look at how cute it is! With the products with faces on it? You're killing me, Lush. I linked the classic Fighting Animal Testing tote because it is the most comparable tote that the public can buy!

Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel: When it was announced that this shower gel would be returning, I actually had tears of joy. This is truly one of my favorite shower gels Lush makes period. The scent is a vanilla, sandalwood, and grapefruit mixture that is absolutely delicious on the skin. Could this be a year round product, kthanks.

Cosrx Acne Pimple Match: After my sample sheet of pimple patches from a past Sephora Play Box, I have been hooked. This brand has great reviews and boy do they do the trick. Pop a little spot treatment on and then place this on the spot before bed. When you wake up in the morning, your skin is feeling and looking a million times better!

Jack Black Lip Balm in Natural Mint: One of my all time favorite lip balms. For the price, this balm is absolutely amazing.

Katie Daisy Flowers Always Recycled Journal: One of my coworkers has this journal and had to copy her. I’ve been loving planning my baths in this journal. All of the pages are made of recycled paper with soy based inks.

Shows We’ve Seen Recently Pt. 4 - January 2020

We got to see some seriously incredible shows this past month.

The Drowsy Chaperone at Firehouse Theater:

This show was the bees knees. And it was extremely special, as well. Firehouse Theater put on Drowsy five years ago. I remember it being such a huge hit but not being able to afford tickets to see it. For their anniversary season, they managed to get the majority of their original cast back to put on the show again. This is one of James’ favorite shows. He had been talking about seeing this for weeks. It absolutely did not disappoint! Stand out performance was obviously the beautiful Janelle Lutz as Janet. (Follow her on Instagram here!) She was absolutely incredible and had the audience eating out of the palm of her hand. The Drowsy Chaperone runs until February 23rd. Get your tickets here!

Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls at Lakeside Community Theater:

This dark comedy was not what I was expecting! But we obviously had to go support our amazing friend, Kirsten. (Follow her on Instagram here!) While, of course, my friend was my favorite in the cast, another stand out performance was from the actress who played Other Katya/Nastya. Her monologue at the beginning of Act 2 was absolutely hysterical. I’d also love to note that I loved the set design from this show. LCT always does a wonderful job at making use of their space!

Favorite An Actor Plans Stickers

Back in November I was accepted to be apart of An Actor Plans PR Team. It has been so fun growing with Melissa and seeing all the hard work she puts into her business and see it thrive. I’m so excited to share my favorite sticker sheets she sells!

Welcome to my Candy Store sheet: It’s no secret I love Heathers. So obviously I use and abuse this sheet. I’m so thankful to work alongside a business owner who listens to what her customers want. When I purchased before I was accepted on the PR Team, I begged for a Heathers sheet. I have several now and use them all the time!

Move Toward The Darkness sheet: The Addams Family is another all time favorite show. I love that this sheet doesn’t scream The Addams Family, either. I love the sword and family chalice especially. It’s obviously perfect for Halloween. But have you met me? I can find uses for this sheet all year round!

Comedy and Tragedy sheet: I love adding these classic theatre masks to mark when we will go and see shows or when I have an audition. They make a great finishing touch to an theatre lovers monthly or weekly spread.

Create Your Own Season: One of the most useful items Melissa sells, in my opinion! Every single theatre has a different season. It’s so helpful to use this sheet to plan what shows you have coming up in your town. She has so many playbill photos to choose from, as well!

Audition & Callback Sheet: Another super useful sheet to have! It’s really nice to have a sheet to mark off time for auditions or callbacks in both my monthly spread and my weekly spread. She also has tons of options for other parts of a show process such as “rehearsal, run through, performance, etc.”

A Dry Girls Guide To Winter Skin

Will all the dry skinned folks please stand up. It’s a struggle bus having dry skin. Even more so this time of the year when Texas weather just won’t make up its mind. Here’s how I’m currently surviving.

Pile On The Facial Oils: Find a facial oil that agrees with your skin. There are tons on the market. I’ve been loving using straight jojoba oil on my face. Jojoba oil mimics the skin’s natural oil it produces. I really enjoy this oil morning and night. Makeup even sits nicely on top of this oil. It’s also a nice carrier oil for a glycolic serum such as the Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum. (Another favorite!)

Moisturizing Body Scrub: My all time favorite scrub is Buffy from Lush Cosmetics. With a base of Shea Butter and ground almonds, this buffs off any dead skin very gently. I have psoriasis all over my scalp and in some places on my body. This scrub never irritates any super dry areas of my body which is a huge plus!

Always use a body conditioner: I have been using my Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner for years. I love the mixture of the Argan Oil and the Shea Butter. A body conditioner is essentially an in-shower lotion. My dry skin drinks it up. And, let’s be honest. nobody has the time to let regular lotion sink in after a shower.

Keeping A Nourishing Lip Balm With You Always: The Weleda Skin Food made it into my 2019 Favorites. So when I found the Weleda Skin Food Lip Balm, I about lost it. Please take my money. I really have enjoyed using this lip balm. It’s a lovely glossy finish but extremely nourishing.

Glossier FutureDew: Glossier describes this as a oil serum hybrid. I have loved using it in combination with a light coverage concealer to keep my skin looking fresh and juicy. Want to save some money on your first Glossier purchase? Use my code to save some money!

2019 Favorites

As we come in to this new year, I obviously had to take a look back on all the amazing things I discovered this last year.

Glossier’s Futuredew Oil Serum Hybrid: Glossier refers to this amazing product as a skincare style product. I treat it a bit more like a dewy primer. And as someone who day to day wears very light and skin like makeup, this was an amazing addition to my daily makeup routine this year. New to Glossier? Lush Cosmetics Lord of Misrule Shower Gel: My all time favorite Lush scent family. I bought the liter size of this shower gel within the first five minutes of it launching online on Halloween. No chill? Probably. But at least I smell damn good.

Weleda Skin Food: Are you in need of a moisturizer that will give you a glow from the gods? This will do just that. I love to use this in combination with Futuredew and a tiny dab of concealer for my day to day skin. It never feels too greasy and always leaves you hydrated and looking like a more supple and hydrated version of yourself.

Serenity Essential Oil: If I had to completely get rid of our entire oils collection and start fresh, this would be the first oil I’d buy. With a base of lavender, chamomile, and cedarwood, this is every anxious person’s dream oil. It has made a huge difference in my daily routine.

Erin Condren Life Planner: I made the drastic switch from a bullet journal to an Erin Condren Life Planner in the middle of this year. I had gotten into a rut with my planning routine and a bullet journal was starting to give me anxiety. My OCD was getting triggered by not having a straight line, or even boxes, etc. So having something pre-made became a necessity. Shows We’ve Seen Recently Pt. 3 - December 2019

This blog brought so many amazing opportunities my way in 2019. In December, I got to see four amazing shows.

Dear Evan Hansen National Tour at Fair Park:

Truly such a spectacular performance. A friend of mine had one the lottery a second time and let James and I buy the tickets off of her. Little did we all know that these tickets were for the front freaking row. We saw Sam Primack (follow his Instagram here!) as Evan Hansen that evening. We were so close that we could see the tears stream down his face during Words Fail. His performance was a complete masterpiece. If this tour comes to your city, do yourself a favor and buy your ticket. I’d watch this over and over if I could! Get tickets or see the tour dates here.

Firehouse Theatre’s The Wizard of Oz: The Holiday Family Concert:

I’ve had the pleasure of playing Dorothy twice in my life. So when this opportunity showed up in my inbox, I absolutely had to put it on my calendar. The cast was so great and the band was absolutely stunning. It was such a cool experience to be able to be in the audience for a production of The Wizard of Oz for the first time in over a decade. Never miss a show at Firehouse. They never disappoint! Check out Firehouse’s 2020 season here!

Scrooge! The Musical at North Texas Performing Arts:

James and I went to opening night at the gorgeous Courtyard Theatre in Plano for this production of Scrooge. This production truly made use of every square inch of the theatre. Which really made me feel immersed in the show. While there were several kinks in their opening night, I’m sure they were worked out throughout the course of their run. Standout performance was Aaron Arroyo as Jacob Marley. Stole the show, in my opinion! Check out NTPA’s season here!

A Christmas Carol at Dallas Theater Center:

And lastly, to finish of the year, we saw this gem at Dallas Theater Center. Another production that really took advantage of every square foot of the theater space they are in. Actors entered and exited through the lobby doors that the audience came in and out of. Standout performance was from one of my friends Chris Ramirez (follow him on Instagram here!) He starred as Fred/Young Scrooge/and others. If you’ve never seen a show at Dallas Theater Center, treat yourself and start this year. Every single show is always wonderful. Best Things To Do In DFW This Holiday Season

If you know me at all, you know I love this time of the year. And living in DFW where we don’t get snow or even that cold for that matter, sometimes it’s really hard to get festive. I’m here to round up my picks to put on your to-do list this holiday season.

Wizard of Oz at Firehouse Theatre:

After playing Dorothy twice in my life, I will never turn down an opportunity to see a production of The Wizard of Oz. This holiday, Firehouse Theatre has you covered with their staged concert version of this classic. The show runs until December 22nd. Tickets are available here.

A Christmas Carol at Dallas Theater Center:

A must-do here in DFW every year. With a show that has run this long, you’d think it wouldn’t be as good each year. That’s where you're wrong. The combination with this beautiful story with Dallas Theater Center’s beautiful staging makes it so special every time you see it. A Christmas Carol runs until December 29th. Tickets are available here.

Lights in The Colony:

Something so so special that James and I started doing last year. Out in The Colony, they do a beautiful light show that is projected onto their fire station. You tune in to a special radio station and the music plays along with the light show. So much fun! Do yourself a favor, and make sure you go and get a cup of hot cocoa and watch this!

Christmas in the Square in Frisco:

I haven’t been to this in a few years. However. this is something that is a must-do on our list this year. There is skating, a tree maze, a light show, and you can even visit Santa if you are with your family! More info on their website here.

Planner Must-Haves

If you are new here, hi I’m stationary obsessed. If you’re not new, here is yet another planner themed post. For me, my Erin Condren Life Planner fits everything I need. I used the bullet journaling system for several years, but it was taking too much time setting up my weekly and monthly spreads. Now I just use the bullet journal system to further plan my life outside of the strict lines in my Life Planner.

Here are some of my must-haves when planning my months/weeks:

Favorite Pens: I use the Papermate Flair’s and the Micron Pens. I switch between these two styles depending upon what I am writing and how I am detailing my week.

Ruler: I’ve had this little guy for many years. It’s very sturdy and lasts for ages!

What We’ve Seen Recently Pt. 2

I am so thankful that because of my little corner on the internet I get invited to see so many beautiful shows. These two were no exception!

Lyric Stage’s Mirette, A part of their Wonder Women 27th Season: This show was the message that I have been craving. Accept help from anyone regardless of who they are. It was really refreshing to sit and see a show I knew nothing about. At the gorgeous Majestic Theater in Dallas, of course, adds a cherry on top! This show was special because the leading lady was only fourteen years old. What grace and talent this young lady possessed! James and I even had the pleasure of sitting next to her grandmother for the show! Lyric Stage has a stellar line up for the remainder of their season. Make sure to come out and see Abyssinia and Cinderella next year. Tickets available here: www.lyricstage.org. Firehouse Theatre’s Side Show:

Secondly, we saw Side Show at Firehouse. Now of course Firehouse always puts on amazing shows. I had only heard a song or two from this musical in the past. While there were moments that the ensemble wasn’t as sharp as most Firehouse productions, the leads more than made up for it. The twins were perfectly in sync. And the beautiful voice that Terry had brought me to tears in his heart-wrenching solo. It was such a gorgeous show!

Shows We’ve Seen Recently

We have seen some really great shows the last few weeks!

The most recent show we saw was The Addams Family Musical with North Texas Performing Arts Repertory Theatre. This show runs until November 2nd. Tickets are available at: ntparep.org. Morticia and Fester were the absolute stars of this show. While we felt that some people fell a bit flat, these two absolutely kept everything running beautifully.

Another show we saw was It Can’t Happen Here at Collin College. We went to the closing weekend to go support one of my best friends, Kirsten, who was one of the Narrators in this show. This was a show that really challenged the way you view our country. It was really interesting! Follow my beautiful friend Kirsten on Instagram!

The last show we have seen recently was Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party at Bishop Arts Theatre Center. Two of our friends who were in The Wild Party with us at another theatre in DFW went over and did this one right after we closed! It was so fun to see this show from an audience perspective. This show was a little rough around the edges, but we did see the first preview performance, so hopefully, all the kinks got worked out by their actual opening!

We there are so many more shows coming up that I can’t wait to talk about. What are you most excited to see?

DSO x The Nightmare Before Christmas

How are you spending your Halloween? I can’t even put into words how excited we are to be spending ours with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra again! It’s always such an honor to get invited to such amazing shows.

“This is Halloween, this is Halloween!” Spend the spookiest weekend of the year with the Pumpkin King! Disney’s stop-motion animated phenomenon as the DSO plays the Danny Elfman score live alongside a screening of the cult classic. Costumes encouraged. A costume contest will take place at the Halloween show and the winner will win DSO concert tickets.
