yikes, heard from someone that velo was insisting any homophobes, even the people who didn’t oppress people or harass others just for their sexual identity etc.—

imo banning every single homophobe just for basically having an opinion and not being oppressive of it seems p far fetched,,,

There is no such thing as “polite” homophobia. Even if you don’t verbally/physically harass people, you still dislike somebody for something that they cannot change, does not affect you, and is none of your business. that mentality, whether on purpose or not, leads to oppression (can be as simple as a look of disgust when someone mentions their orientation, the casual mention of slurs, the avoiding of such people for their identity.) and people catch on, separate these people from “normality”, make them freaks. This is how homophobia was created and how it continues to hurt people.

Leaving this mentality unchecked is what leads to more homophobia, it leads to the violent kind of homophobia, a cycle that can only stop if you let people know that homophobia is not okay now.

Besides all this, if you are homophobic you are supporting the homophobes who harass, bully, kill and attack LGBTQ+ people, because you are telling them that their behaviour is just the result of an opinion and is acceptable.  Normalizing polite homophobia is the exact same as normalizing violent homophobia. It all contributes to the same violent reality that results in LGBTQ+ people being attacked and killed daily, all over the world.

If I know you are a homophobe, you are not a polite homophobe.
