Made Violent and Wolf Alice at the Fonda, LA (13.10.2015)
I loved Wolf Alice for years but when they put out their album I was incredibly disappointed. They’ve always been a great live band tho, and when Drenge got announced as support I bought tickets immediately (My photos/ review of Drenge can be found HERE).
Made Violent played first and I really liked them. They make straight-forward rock but the audience, mostly made out of under 21′s with glitter in their faces and Wolf Alice shirts in the front and 30-40 year old people in the back, didn’t really respond to it. Even when Wolf Alice started it took them a couple of songs to wake up, but with You’re A Germ a mosh/jumping-pit started. From now on people took the chance to mosh whenever the songs got a bit more rock. They played the full album except Soapy Water and several old songs. Wolf Alice still remain a great live band, although I’m not a fan of their pop songs. The guitar riffs are way heavier and dirtier live and I wish they would have translated that to the album. The best thing about Wolf Alice’s live shows is the audience tho. It’s visible how much their music means to the first rows and it’s great seeing so many young people being inspired by a female guitarist.
Setlist: Your Love’s Whore/ Freazy/ Bros/ You’re A Germ/ Lisbon/ Silk/ Wonderwhy/ Storms/ 90 Mile Beach/ Swallowtail/ Fluffy/ She/ Giant Peach // Turn To Dust/ Blush/ Moaning Lisa Smile
