she didn’t get a call —— the words alone remind him that he means something more to her than simply cosmic dust wrapped in her fathers skin. a call is a means of grieving, a way ofletting go. he doesn’t mention that perhaps the brothers refused to admit his death. judging from dean’s attitude (sam told him some of the events that passed), he wasn’t too keen on believing it himself, much less calling. the attitude change gives him something to work with, a feeling of camaraderie. beyond their physical differences, he thinks they’ve both fought through hell and back again. she knows what it feels like to be a COMET within the universe, to understand castiel’s constant pressure & like most kids, they can relate to some extent about distaste for authority.
LOST YOU, TOO. another well aimed blow to his growing humanity – what is life without family – without friends – without family. regardless of his cosmic nature he had a surrogate family – brothers, daughters, sons. & no matter what, claire and he were family now ; for better or for worse. he had married their consciousness once in her childhood – certainly he would never do that again, he was learned in the ways of real consent now – not manipulation of consent.
“coming back to life – is a chore – i admit …” he chews on the words, eye brows furrowed in thought as he wrings hands together on the plastic table top. “but i think you are right – better to focus on avoiding the whole affair.”
a soft smile, softer features – gaze up at her, refocusing himself – “perhaps you should be my partner for a while. keep me out of trouble. you’re good at that.”
there’s a blink, && a shift in her expression. something about him saying she’s right struck a cord. she’s not used to hearing something along those lines. the fact that this is going well. there’s a ‘ hah ’ that escapes her, softly, and a smile twitched onto her features. by the time his gaze meets hers, she’s already staring at him with a returned smile. a moment of happiness. a brief second, where she understands that connection. SHE REMEMBERS WHAT IT FELT LIKE . TO BE POSSESSED . she used to get dreams, ( more like nightmares. ) about the experience. but these days, she hardly thinks about it. until she sees him. her dad. and the newest edition . dad two-point-o’.
❝ really ? ❞ claire’s voice raised by the end, leaving what she said to be a question. she’s in complete disbelief. her eyebrows raised, suggesting she’s rather surprised by this. ❝ you’re serious ? ❞ the girl throws another question on top of her previous one, both being in a sense “ rhetorical ”, because she figured castiel wasn’t the type to say something like that and not mean it.
but there’s a scoff, when he says she’s “ good at staying out of trouble ”. rolling blue eyes, her lips parted whilst a dramatic sigh escapes her. ❝ yeah , uh-huh. ❞ it’s mostly playful, her agreement to that statement. ❝ and angels actually have halos, and play the harp. ❞ claire retorts sarcastically. her tone spared little when it came to attitude. she even playfully punched him in the arm, before continuing. ❝ but ... ❞ her head shifts to a tilted angle, claire’s golden hair swaying with her movements. eyes looked up to the sky, a smirk present. ❝ sure , castiel. ❞ claire says the moment her blues met his once more .
every time she saw those blue colored eyes, the ones they share there’s a twinge of pain in her gut. she doesn’t let it show, not anymore. and it’s not that she forgets who’s there, but sometimes it hurts. because sometimes. SHE SWEARS ... it’s him who’s looking back at her. but those thoughts only last a few seconds. which is why the brief interruption of her smile ends, and she’s back to showing “HAPPINESS.” ❝ we’re partners now. which means, you get to let me drive ... i also get to call the shots, OH. AND. that reminds me. you have to let me carry a gun, ❞ her terms sounded like they were thought of long ago. but, she’s quietly laughing through teeth, ❝ kidding i’m kidding ! ❞ she clarifies quickly, figuring she should probably give verbal confirmation that most of her terms weren’t considered to be serious. ❝ not about the gun though, ❞ claire is sure to add, pointing a finger at him gesturing that it’s a point to not be taken lightly .
❝ but look at that ! progress. no more chores already ! ❞ she swipes her hands together, dusting off “ figurative ” dirt. ❝ i’m not gonna let you die. ❞
