Dnf but despite getting car sick easily, Dream sits in the backseat w/ George at any opportunity:
Sapnap, George, and Dream had gone on many escapades since George moved to Florida. Aside from the few short walks they took, the majority of their journeys were taken by car.
After the first few car rides, George began to notice an interesting pattern:
Sapnap, of course, would always call dibs on driving, which Dream and George never protested.
George would slide his way into the backseat, thinking that Dream would want the passenger seat since it had more legroom.
However, every single time, Dream would come up with some excuse as to why he should instead sit in the back with George.
At first, his reasons made sense:
“It’ll be easier to point out landmarks and stuff to George back here,”
But with time, these reasons became dumber and dumber:
“The airflow is better,”
“This cup holder fits my water bottle better,”
“Sapnap stinks,” (valid)
“I can see better back here,” (not true)
Sapnap never failed to make fun of him for these lame excuses, but he didn’t pry. He enjoyed being the only one up front, anyway. He got full control over the music and how loud he wanted it to be. It was like his own personal jam session.
George also thought these reasons were strange, but he never brought it up. He enjoyed Dream sitting in the back with him. It was easy to point out buildings and signs. He could make fun of Sapnap without being overheard. But most importantly, although he would never admit it, he felt less lonely.
He did notice, though, that Dream was less like himself when he sat in the backseat. His high energy depleted, he barely said anything, and he seemed to go a little pale. George also noticed he got aggravated much more easily. He didn’t like it.
That’s when George came up with a plan. He was going to run some experiments. If Dream wasn’t going to switch up their seating plans, he was.
The first thing George tried was sitting up in the passenger seat. He would observe Dream’s body language, and could also mess with Sapnap by changing the volume of the songs he was playing or skipping them entirely. This was very annoying to Sapnap, who declared George was no longer allowed to sit in the front when he was driving.
When George wasn’t pestering Sapnap, he was watching Dream. If George thought he had been uncomfortable before, it was definitely amplified now. Dream spent the car ride moving about, trying to find the best place to zone out on and relieve the tension in his head.
George’s next experiment was to see how Dream acted when he was the one driving.
“I just want to see the difference in your driving,” George explained, “maybe Sapnap isn’t as good a driver as he says he is,”
Just to get back at him, Sapnap sat in front.
George observed several things during that car ride:
1. Dream was much more upbeat. He sang along to the songs Sapnap blared through the speakers, he made wholehearted jokes, and didn’t seem like he was going to vomit.
2. Dream was a better driver. This was information George would use in the future for his ultimate plan.
3. Through his singing and jokes, George kept noticing Dream’s eyes flickering over to him in the rearview mirror. Almost as if he was trying to check up on George, seeing if he was okay.
He wanted to tease, say that if Dream didn’t keep his focus on the road they were going to die, but he didn’t Instead, he was mesmerized. He didn’t want Dream to look away even though his life literally depended on it.
All these things led to George’s final decision.
“Sapnap, I’m sorry, but Dream is just the better driver,” he stated once they had gotten back home.
“There’s no way,” Sapnap protested, “you’re just saying that,”
Sapnap spent the rest of the time before their next drive explaining to George how he was clearly the superior driver.
When that day came, George insisted on Dream driving again, he claimed it was just “to get better statistics,” to get Sapnap off his back. George also took this opportunity to sit in the front, just to piss him off a little bit more.
This became the layout for the rest of their group drives. Dream behind the wheel, George in the passenger seat, and Sapnap, despite all his protesting and whining, was subjected to the back.
