The Quiet Moments of a Storm
For the last four years, Your Shot Member Sean Ramsey has been following and photographing storms from Wyoming to the Texas panhandle. During his time as a weather photographer he’s seen his share of F5 tornadoes and major storms. He shares his thoughts and ideas on searching for the quiet moments while documenting powerful storms.
Documenting F5 tornadoes and large storms as they roll through the area of Oklahoma that’s part of Tornado Alley isn’t an easy task to take on. You have to understand the weather and how a storm moves across the sky. For photographer Sean Ramsey, these are things that he has a passion and drive to capture.
“I don’t see myself as a storm chaser; I see myself as a photographer,“ he says "My focus is on the landscape that is being covered by a storm. It’s been my work for the past few years now, photographing weather between Texas and Wyoming.”
Ramsey grew up in western Oklahoma and as a kid was fascinated by storms that roamed over his state.“My dad would bring the whole family into the storm cellar and I was the one who never wanted to go,” he says. “I wanted to see the storms, see those green swirling skies and witness those intensive moments.”
