Comprehend vs. Understand

Tell me; in your opinion, what the difference between comprehend & understand is. They're commonly defined as a synonym for one another in dictionaries but when I conceptualized psychologically between them I see a difference. My Opinion: Apart from their alike denotation; 'understand' & 'comprehend' have deviated connotations of which, obtaining knowledge through 'comprehension' represents an actual conceptual advance and closely but, not solely with memorization. Where as, obtaining knowledge through 'understanding' is the initial mental process generalized in interpretation.

Human Mind & Computers

It is safe to assume that computers, though quick in numerical calculation, remain inadequate when compared to the reasoning and analytical power of the human mind. However, when we develop technology in our own image - our electrical impulses simulated as a mind built of 1s and 0s - and task the digital neurology with conjoining disparate images... have we created a world of dreams? Of color and vivid imagination? Or, by asking our creation (our child, of sorts) to make sense of the senseless, combining images in two dimensions for which it has no context, have we forever bequeathed, as parent to an innocent mind, the depth and nature of our nightmares?

▪1st Encounter▪

Decevil: Who are you? Why do you keep following me?

Rău: So… you finally sensed me.

Decevil: …. (surprised at the response)

Rău: You will grow strong, Decevil. You have the desire, potential and talent for discovery. However, you’re still not aware of your true intent.

Decevil: My “true intent”?

Rău: An even greater intention lies dormant inside of you. But there is one condition for awakening that power.

Decevil: Who are you? How do you know that?

Rău: It doesn’t matter right now. If you awaken your power, my prophecy will come true one day… Well, never mind about that. We were talking about awakening your hidden intent weren’t we? Do you want to know how? First, you must lose love…

Decevil: What do you mean?

Rău: Like having a person you love, die. Let’s test it out!

Decevil: What are you going to do!? Wait!

(Rău vanishes)

Rău: You’ve already sensed it, right? That you’re special. That you have the power to change the faults of his past. You’ve inherited most of… we’ll, do you know who you are?

(Rău slowly turns and vanishes)

My First Novel's Outline

▪Decevil Pădurii▪

Romanian Translation: Pădurii (of the Forest)

~Plot/Premise/Description Notes~

Main Location: a village in Romania just outside the tree line of Hoia Baciu forest.

Time Frame: Currently Undetermined.

Decevil; as a young adolescent with no siblings, he was extremely intrigued by being outside and discovering his local homeland. He lived in a small village in Romania with his mother and father.

They lived in poverty but his parents worked hard on keeping a civil and structured day to day life. They ate lightly but had food everyday. A small, time period cottage was their home. They were a highly religious family as was majority of the other families around them.

What interested him the most, especially early on in his life was wandering the forest to play. He had no direction for reason just an internal sense unknown to him but he never even cared to know until one day he had to.

A darkness that only got darker itself as it adapted and installed into his life. He would make an encounter in the forest with what at first could only be described as Satan himself.

Even with the realization of who he thought this darkness was, he strangely was not afraid. Being from a family of religion, it was even more odd that Decevil would visit everyday with Rău.

The things that he would witness and interact with in that forest early on; they went unnoticed by his family and residents of the area. They weren’t aware of Decevil’s dark adventures.

When this first started he would just interact and learn from this darkness. It was all just a conversation then.

Once he became a grown man in his early 20s; Decevil started to do things through action rather than listening and learning from Rău as he did prior. Over time Decevil would evolve into a tangible Rău. This development would cause pain and terror for everyone.
