When the wind blows
I've fallen in love with the things that destroy me A Beautiful catastrophe
The house was small and brown, the building itself was falling apart. The frames of the window and doors were flaking away like dead skin. Ben paused at the gate, considered turning back but again changed his mind. The path was barely visible under the over grown grass. Cautiously he walked up the uneven steps to the porch. Everything creaked. The beams holding what was left of the porch cover swayed and moaned. All around were potted plants spreading their leaves. Ben knocked once on the door very gently, he gritted his teeth and knocked again slightly harder. "Oh dear noone home" he shrugged to himself and turned around making to leave. Blocking his path was a black cat. It was grooming itself and turned it's head up to look at Ben. Large yellow eyes meeting his, "you'll have to knock harder than that" he mewed then continued to lick himself. Ben screamed stumbling backwards in his haste to get away as fast as possible. He clattered through the door, falling on his back. The cat slinked past him brushing up against his legs as it passed. Ben screamed again clutching his legs to his chest. He lay there for a second before deciding to get up remembering again why he came here in the first place. It was dark in the house. Ben wandered around "hello" he called "he..hello". There was a glowing coming from a room on his left, "hello" he tried again louder this time. A groan came from inside the room. He discovered that the dim light was coming from a few nearly burnt out candles. They were dotted around the room. Some on the mantelpiece but most were surrounding the sofa. Littered amongst them were empty bottles. Ben squinted on the sofa was a figure. "excuse me" he tried. The figure moaned again. "m m m..my name's Ben" he stuttered out "aand" "go away" the sofa moaned "get out and close the door it's drafty". " I need your help" Ben said more firmly. He was closer now and beginning to make out some features. A strobe of light fell through a gap in the curtains. It was a woman curled up into a ball. She was facing inwards her hair splayed and matted on her back. Ben put out his hand ready to touch her. Before he could her hand shot up to grab it. She turned her head. Ben could see ripples come over her face then it changed. Even in the dim light all the details of this face were visible. Skin that peeled revealing bone, it puckered and rankled. Her eyes had elongated orange orbs in her head. She moved her jaw grating her teeth together. Softly she said, "I'm a scary witch, you have no idea what I could do to you, now go away" Ben couldn't mover he just froze in uter panic. "now now stop scaring the boy he looks like he could combust into flames" the ripples came over her face again and she had normal features. Ben was still in shock but the woman was no longer paying him any attention she was looking at the cat perched on the back of the sofa. " I thought I told you you had to stay outside" she said " because your annoying" she frowned at the cat. The cat ignored her instead speaking to Ben. "open the curtains" he said. Ben did as he was told. Once they were open the woman moaned again placing a pillow over her head and lying face down. The cat plopped down onto her back and dug it's claws in. Ben had followed her to the kitchen where she began to make some coffee. A blanket draped around her hunched shoulders hair sticking out in every which angle. Ben decided he was fed up of waiting for her he had things to do. "Malik said" "Malik says a lot of things" she interrupted "he said" he tried again "that you could help me" "he said could, not would" she continued to root through cupboards not even looking at him. "sorry bean I don't do that anymore" "but it's important, and it's Ben by the way not bean" "what is" "my name, it's Ben" " no I'm sure you said it was bean I remember " Ben decided to use a different approach. "what are you called" "I'm Morath, and this is fluffy." "fluffy?" "well he is still a cat" fluffy was paying no attention to either of them he was sat on the windowsill licking his paws. Yellow eyes slowly raised to look at the pair. "lovely day for a hunt" he said
