RULES:
Howdy, Lapis here, 30+, she/her, and very sleepy. Please see my rules below; gonna keep them short and sweet!
This blog is private (mutuals only) and is going to be on semi-hiatus to keep things a bit simpler and less stressful for me as I have a intense job and want roleplay to be something to escape to. I donโt want to feel pressured to reply to things within a particular timeframe and I donโt think anyone else should feel pressured either. This is a pressure free zone! That being said, I may disappear for months at a time at points so please donโt follow if this is an issue for you!
Iโm open to long or shortform threads, but longform will take me longer to reply to as I like to make sure my writing is up to scratch which it sometimes isnโt when Iโm really tired and Iโm frequently really tired!
I have no icons for the time being, though this may change in future.
I wonโt follow people back if they donโt have an age range stated somewhere on their bio. No need for specifics, just an age range is fine. i.e. 25+ etc. I would prefer to interact with people who are adults, however this is not because smut will be appearing on this blog as it wonโt be.
On shipping: I am open to it but there really needs to be a strong out of character connection, as well as an in character one for me to feel totally comfortable with it. This means we need to talk freqently on discord etc. I ship with only one version of a character at a time to keep things simpler and feeling more special. Iโll list characters I have a ship with below at some point and am working on pages. Please feel free to ask about ships I already have going if youโre interested as my pages etc. may take a bit of time.
I've been gnawing on this headcanon that over his 500 years of life Neu.villette has picked up little skills from humans over time, and one of them is that he taught himself to play the piano. His struggles with emotions and expressing them means he found an outlet through music, and he's composed many of his own pieces. He doesn't really think much of his skill and he doesn't really play for anyone in particular (except occasionally the melu.sines). He wouldn't want anyone to think of him as anything other than the Iudex, so he keeps it on the down low, but any human who heard his music by chance would probably think it a little melancholic, yet gentle. Just like him. In real world standards his style is probably similar to Ch.opin or Deb.ussy.
Happy new year! Here's to a happy and healthy 2024!
Thank you to everyone who is waiting on replies/asks from me and thank you for being such a lovely and chill bunch of people, I truly wish you the best year yet and lots of success with your resolutions if you have any โก

It had been a tough journey through the desert. There's a reason Tighnari doesn't come here very often, but on this occasion his research had demanded it. There are, he's learned, some similarities between the flora of desert caves and jungle plant species that he wants to observe and document for himself. True that a desert oasis is different from a sprawling forest, but these caves with their rivers and damp atmosphere paint a different picture to the one most would expect.
The desert and forest have always been considered opposites, two sides, too different to reconcile, but it seems that the world beneath the surface tells a different story. One where dry sand and moisture loving greenery coexist.
In the very least, Tighnari's findings could shatter some of the lingering snobbery about the "blandness of the desert" still present in the Amurta Darshan. Fitting then that Cyno should be the person accompanying him. Though they are from the desert and forest respectively, they have always had a good relationship. A very good relationship.
There is no one Tighnari trusts more than Cyno, and few he would go out of his way for in any meaningful way, so when Cyno lifts a hand to help Tighnari down into the dark dampness below, Tighnari takes it without hesitation. Without even really thinking about it.
The cave is blessedly cooler than the desert above, stroking his sweat soaked skin and relieving him of his heat stroke.
He seats himself on a rock and takes a deep breath to steady his woozy head, before taking stock of the unique smell of the cave and its hidden ecosystem.
"I can already smell geosmin..." He says quietly, "That's a good sign. There might be more similarities here than I thought..."

Collei had brought the young man in from patrol, supporting his slender frame with her own before sitting him down on one of the chairs in Tighnari's hut. Tighnari, who had been researching the role of seed dispersal in the life cycle of the Dusk Bird, had merely given the boy an appraising look, before sighing and moving himself from his seat.
Now he stands with folded arms, wondering how some people can get themselves into such a state, before he speaks, ignoring the pleading looks from Collei, "Look at you, even a starving Rishboland Tiger would take pity on you... Unfortunately for you, I'm neither starving nor a Rishboland Tiger."
Reaching for his nearest copy of the Avidya Forest Survival Guide he opens it, knowing exactly which section and page he is seeking.
"Here," He passes the book to Collei to show the young adventurer, "If you turn to page 20 of the Avidya Forest Survival Guide you'll see very clearly the etiquette to properly navigate the forest without disturbing local wildlife populations, and nowhere does it say to end up in a den of tigers..."
Tighnari pinches the bridge of his nose briefly. He has been told to try keeping his temper under control. Nahida herself had told him that it's not always everyone's fault that they don't know the forest and it's many ways. Not everything that's a given to him, with all his knowledge and years of research, is a given to everyone else. But really... Some things are just common sense, surely?
With a breath he continues, bearing his God's words in mind, "Though I suppose you wouldn't know that without a copy of the guide, so you can keep this one. But please make sure you read it cover to cover if you plan on staying. Deal?"
โ Alright then... That ought to do it! โ Navia says, hands lifting to settle confidently against her hips as she observes the array of products spread out across the vanity before her: several tubes of lipstick, multiple bottles of nail polish, her favourite blush, a collection of eyeshadows she thinks will complement Clorinde's vibrant eyes and a pot of eyeliner to complete the look. Then there are the tools: brushes of different shapes and sizes, a fluffy powder puff and an eyelash curler, all of which will be used to apply the makeup with her expert hand. Yes. She has everything she needs.
Navia turns to Clorinde ( who looks rather stiff sitting in the upholstered arm chair in front of the vanity ) with a winning smile, her eyes glinting mischievously as she sing-songs, โ Well? Are you ready? This is your last chance to back out. Once I start, you're not leaving that chair until the look is complete~! โ
Clorinde sits a little stiffly in the chair, hands balled against her knees, hair brushed away from her face. She has never had anyone else do her makeup before, but if she were to trust anyone with it, it would be Navia. Especially given how exquisitely she does her own makeup every single day...
"I'm not going anywhere," Clorinde says, "I said I'd let you do it, I'm not going to back out now."
She is a woman of her word, plus she has faced down feral criminals with nothing left to lose in front of huge crowds of people while the Chief Justice himself oversees it, a little makeup isn't enough to frighten her. It's just... Navia does admittedly make her stomach feel tighter. Their friendship means a lot to Clorinde and to have almost lost it... Well she feels a little like she is walking on eggshells sometimes. Even if Navia has forgiven her, she does not want to misstep and risk losing what they have all over again. This is a chance to bond and reconnect, so she's not backing out, no matter how mischeivous Navia might look.
โ ๐๐ก โฆ ๐ ๐ฌ๐๐. โ the duke maintains his composure. note how polite he's being ! โธป refusing to taunt the champion duelist, though he does recognize the hint of displeasure that briefly flits across her features. Clorinde's tension is practically tangible, her uncertainty about his intentions far too apparent. as Wriothesley finally takes his last step at drawing nearer, his calm demeanour remains intact, & he prepares to engage in their conversation.
How kind of you, Clorinde. Your diligent efforts in checking up on things are greatly appreciated. โ & he's not lying. not one bit. โ Unfortunately, however โฆ the current state of affairs is simply what it is. There is very little I can do myself and โฆ I believe you as well. โ & this is how he refrains from mentioning his avoidance of the sealed room ever since Neuvillette closed it ( as well as the contained primordial water ) , knowing that Clorinde, familiar with his methods, may discern unspoken reviews.
"Your cavalier attitude is impressive, given that if the whole thing were to blow you would likely be one of the first to perish." She too, is not lying, not at all, and she shares the sentiment. There is little either of them can do to stop what is to happen, though try they might. One can only die cowering or fighting, and she has chosen the latter. After all, she has seen many die and she knows what it means to spend your last moments fighting for what you believe in...
"Monsieur Neuvillette is of the opinion that we were able to hold the flood back before, so we can do it again, hence why I'm to be his messenger in this matter." She pauses a moment before continuing, "Though I suppose if there is nothing to report, I'll stay for a while..." She eyes him. If he's going to offer her tea then he'll do it now, unless he has something else up his sleeve. She'll wait and see.
โ there's no more hearings until this evening, and none of my paperwork is urgent so i thought it would be good to go for a walk and get something to eat. โ he's glad for the company, especially since he and clorinde rarely had time to speak on casual terms. he pauses for a moment, enjoying the silence for a moment before speaking again.
โ i'm going to have some soupe au pistou. if you'd like to have something to eat, i'll put it on my bill. โ neuvillette often ate alone with it came to actual meals, so having a companion to have a chat over some food sounded quite appealing. besides, clorinde wasn't exactly talkative, so he was thankful that they wouldn't have to worry about balancing the two.
"I see..." Clorinde replies, eyes lowered to the table and menu in front of her, "It seems we had the same idea..." She feels a slight nausea. Sometimes the thought that she should be here, eating with the likes of Monsieur Neuvillette at a lovely cafe while so many others have died by her sword can get a little overwhelming, but she tucks those feelings away and picks the menu up.
She gives it a cursory glance... She wants something light, sweet but not too sweet. Her eyes alight on the perfect thing. "Then I'll have some vanilla macarons and tea with milk and one sugar... If that's alright? I'm more than capable of paying my own bill."
a teal orange eye opens as the forest watcher talks, his words making the scribe scoff. โ didn't know i was just any old person, i thought we were friends. โ haitham would almost laugh at tighnari's words, if he wasn't so tired. he's about to go back to resting when the other speaks again, though this time it draws a sigh out of him. he should've known it was coming, because it was in the nature of all his friends to care about his well being, just as he did theirs. besides, tighnari did have a valid point, and the signs of his exhaustion were obvious. lifting his head up, he turned to give the other his full attention.
โ oh please, as if i'd go above and beyond for the akademiya of all places. โ a pause followed by another sigh. he might as well be honest. โ the scouting for a new grand sage is just taking longer than we thought, is all. it's especially hard when everyone applying is just as worse as azar was. โ al-haitham still being the best candidate goes unsaid, though they both knew it. eventually, he'll learn just to accept it. โ but yes, i've been eating and sleeping plenty. though i am a little famished after the journey out to your little humble abode. โ
As Al-Haitham talks Tighnari does a brief assessment of his physical health. It's amazing how little it requires when you know what to look for. His eyes, though a little swollen with exhaustion, appear alert enough and he doesn't appear to have lost any weight since they'd last met up. Tighnari knows well enough the stresses the upheaval in the Akademiya have caused what with the sages landing on his doorstep. He's had his work cut out trying to keep them in order long enough to do his own research on the side. Nonetheless he hopes this busy period will pass and he'll be back to researching the mosses and ferns of the Avidya forest in more depth than he could have ever hoped for...
Still, he doesn't complain about it to Al-haitham. Poor guy has enough on his plate, even if he seems to he handling it well enough. As he had aready said, he's certainly not the type to allow himself to be pushed beyond his means by the likes of the Akademiya, and his physical health appears to match that character assessment which is a relief.
"Good," Tighnari says, "And if you're hinting that you want food then you're welcome to go down to the fire pit and retrieve some from the rangers on duty down there."
Though Tighnari is good at assessing the health and safety of others, it has been said that he can be a little... Unaware of his own physical state. His stomach gives a rather loud growl which causes him to place a hand over it, as if to stop it from exposing him any further. He clears his throat before continuing, "And I... I suppose I'd better join you."
intrigue lingers in the duke's voice as he speaks : โ My โฆ fancy seeing you here, Clorinde, โ & while he's pacing closer to the visitor, his gaze holds an undeniable hint of curiousness as he continues : โ And just what brings you to my fortress ? Got any important messages for me, hm ? โ with words that carry a seamless blend of both amusement & suspicion ; always attuned to the motivations of those who entered the underground domain of the fortress of Meropide.
๐ฎ๐ง๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ญ๐๐ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐๐ซ. / @wordwove , for clorinde.
There's a hint of displeasure on her features as he tracks closer. He's truly like a wolf, or at least some kind of large dog. No doubt she enjoys his company, but in a second he is going to start offering her tea. It's inevitable. In fact, she's already anticipating it even though it has not yet come to pass and it's distracting.
A tiny puff of air leaves her lips before she answers him, brow furrowed slightly, "I'm here on behalf of Monsieur Neuvillette. My schedule is fairly free while his is busy, so I'm here to check up on things. He's been concerned about the state of affairs since the seal burst... And, to be honest, so am I."
With Ayato due to return from his trip in the next day or so, Thoma has been working hard to ensure the entire estate is pristine โ more so than usual. So far, he's swept, mopped and waxed the floors, aired Ayato's room and futon, prepared clean bedding and sleep clothes, bought fresh ingredients for a hotpot and pulled the weeds pushing up through the gravel out in the garden. Though he has a great many other things still on his list (he spied several cobwebs during his rounds that he intends to clear away), Thoma wagers that everything will be perfect just in time for Ayato's arrival, right on schedule.
...or, at least, that had been the plan.
He's standing with a duster in hand, reaching towards the cobwebs collecting in one corner of the room, when he notices movement out of the corner of his eye. Thoma turns, thinking that perhaps Furata has sought him out for his assistance, only to freeze once his gaze settles on the (unexpected) figure standing serenely in the doorway.
Perhaps pathetically, Thoma feels his heart flutter as he and Ayato lock eyes.
โ Waka? You're back! W-welcome home! I hope your trip was successful. โ Thoma says smoothly despite his surprise, swiftly concealing the duster behind his back as he bends at the waist into a respectful bow. There's no telling who might be lurking nearby, after all...
In a rare turn of events negotiations had gone well. There had been little need for mediation on the part of the Yashiro Commissioner as the other members of the party had been well mannered and surprisingly jovial. Ayato is not sure whether it had been the wine, the weather, or the general atmosphere in the country now that the shogun had returned and the Sakoku Decree was lifted, but he was not going to question it too much.
Of course there is always the threat of an assassination, either by poisoning or ambush, but after this long as head of the Kamisato Clan, Ayato knows the signs by now and thankfully none of them had been present. A rare occasion indeed.
With everything said and done, things had ended on a good note and, with no more to discuss, they had been allowed to return home early from the trip with a view to meet again later in the year.
For the first time in a long time, Ayato finds himself at a loose end. Unfortunately he isn't the type to turn down the chance for a break, so he spends the ride home thinking about ways he can tease the house keeping staff and whether he can sneak into the kitchen to have some fun creating new and terrifying flavours to turn everyone's stomachs. Free time is great for him, but not so much for everyone else, a fact he secretly relishes in.
When they arrive back at the Kamisato Estate Ayato acknowledges the looks of surprise on the various faces he sees and hides his amusement behind a serene smile. He notes that everyone seems ill prepared, looks of guilt and shock flying around every room he passes. Not that he cares of course. Home is home whether it has garnered a few cobwebs or not. He is just happy to be back; to have the rare opportunity to spend some time here before his next trip.
There is someone he'd like to see, too. Someone who embodies home more than anyone else within the walls of the estate...
When he arrives at the door of his room he finds Thoma there, cleaning away in preparation. Ayato wishes he had a moment to watch him, feeling as his eyes crease in fond amusement, his heart settling into a warm pool in his chest, but Thoma turns before he can continue observe him doing what he does best. As expected he seems surprised and Ayato can't help the chuckle that leaves his lips as he greets him.
"It was... Unusually so," He responds, stepping closer and feigning confusion, "You, however, seem a little perturbed by my arrival... Is everything alright?"
