Shaykh ʿAbd al-Kabīr Saqalli (d. 1388 AH/1968 CE) was the great-great-grandson of the renowned Moroccan Shaykh Aḥmed Saqalli. He was one of the spiritual giants of this century, but is little known outside his country of origin. Born in Fez, he passed away there and was the mentor and spiritual guide of the late Shaykh Mekki bin Kiran. He took the Darqāwī way from Shaykh Ṭāhir Tasuli, who took it directly from Sidī Muḥammad Harraq. When his first Shaykh passed away, he sat with his successor Shaykh Khaḍir Shaj’i. After his second Shaykh died, he traveled to perform Ḥajj and resided in the Holy Lands for many years. Upon returning to Fes, he remained only a short while before moving back to Madīnah, the city of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, where he kept the company of Shaykh Muḥammad b. Ja’far al-Kattānī, from whom he took much knowledge. When the Saudi family attacked the Holy Lands, he migrated with his teacher to Damascus, where he took from Shaykh Badr al-Dīn and Shaykh Yūsuf Nabahani. After forty years there, he returned to Fez. He was one of the unique masters who could explain the works of Ibn ʿArabī, which he taught to only a select few. He is buried outside the Gate of futūḥ in Fez. May God have mercy on his soul.
