Note: I'm proship in the sense that I believe that fiction is separate from reality and that as long as nobody is being hurt, then we're good! There is definitely content that I don't enjoy or align with, but again, if I don't want to see it, I can filter that. I think I need to spread the gospel of Marianas Trench a little harder, so here goes.
This is the band ⤴. They're hella cool. They hail from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They released their first album in 2006 and have released 5 since.
Now Kai, why is this tagged with the holy emo trinity? These Canadian motherfuckers aren't part of that. No, but they've got a sort of Panic! at the Disco-esque inability to settle on a genre, a grit to match MCR's, string arrangements to rival Fall Out Boy's, and that whole emo-pop-punk thing down (in earlier albums at least, they've headed in a bit more of a grand orchestral direction with their most recent). The flamboyant lead singer also has a somewhat uncanny resemblance to Phil Lester for all you phans out there.
If you like MCR and Take This to Your Grave, start out with Fix Me. It's all the angsty rough emo-ness you need. It mostly details the lead singer Josh's struggles with addiction and mental illness.
If you're wanting more of a FUCT/Vices & Virtues sound, please check out Masterpiece Theatre. Big on the pop punk, some more ballad-like songs as well, beautiful orchesration, and a grand three-act song that ties it together.
The sound they're famous (in Canada at least) for really takes shape in Ever After and Astoria. More of that pop punk, sorta rock-ish, beautiful, heartbreaking, masterful sound. Ever After is a fairytale concept album and flows beautifully, with transitions between all the songs so it feels uniform in a way that sends shivers down your spine. Astoria has a bit more glitter and glam, a little more disco, but is just as much fun. Expect Shakespeare references, incredible lyricism, Josh's sky-high vocal range, heartbroken songs, and occasional instrumental interludes.

Matt Webb, the guitarist. This man is so hilarious and it's unexpected. He's soft-spoken and then busts out with the funniest things in interviews. He gained the spot of my favourite member after he gave me a fistbump and a signed picture and setlist after a show. 10/10 guitar player and sometimes gets thrown on keys.
Josh Ramsay is the often blue-haired lead singer and songwriter. He's who to blame for the crazy instrumentation. He's a genius. You've definitely heard some songs he helped write, even if you don't know it, he's a somewhat legendary Canadian ghost songwriter. One example is Call Me Maybe, which is somewhat hilarious. If you want a fun run-down on his life, listen to their song Here's to the Zeros.
Ian Casselman, the curly haired part-time rapper who's one hell of a drummer. Recognized by many for his mutton chops and his live part in their song Pop 101.
Mike Ayley is the lovely bassist with the signature mohawk you'll always be able to pick out. As the bassist, he's often overlooked but is really kind (I've talked to him!) and is very skilled.
