Here are 4 silly little sketches from today, I had to do them in graphite because I left my ink at home, but honestly… I kind of love Peter in graphite. He is a soft boy, so maybe it worked out for the best. There’s this Swedish saying, “tur i oturen”, basically "a blessing in disguise", which feels very fitting here.

I don’t know if there are more Peter ships?? Do people ship him with James, or is that illegal because of babygirl Reggie and Lily… I did draw him and Sirius as more of a platonic thing here as I’m a scared of breaking up the holy deity that is Wolfstar.

Also I quickly fell down a little rabbit hole on AO3 with some insane crackships (not to yuck other people's yums). There was Peter/himself time travel at one point. Please tell me if there’s anyone else he’s commonly shipped with, I saw Umbridge but I have personal beef with her and I’m choosing to ignore it.

I will absolutely be butchering ship names in this post and I apologize in advance.

Creation time

Once you sign-up you'll get invited to join the fest discord server, where you can discuss your fest plans and your work, connect with beta readers, and have lots of other discussions about Peter or other fun topics.

We’ll have a check-ins over the course of the creation period to help motivate and keep everyone on track.

By the end of Sunday October 26th, you must have your work uploaded on AO3 and added to the fest collection TaleOfTails25, or send your edits to one of the mods so we know you’ve finished it, and then on October 31st you’ll post it with the hashtag #TaleOfTails25.

·   Discussion of JKR herself and related topics is heavily discouraged in the server so that everyone feels comfortable. This fest does not endorse giving JKR monetary support, such as buying merch or watching the HBO show, and discussion of these topics should be done elsewhere. Any statements supporting JKR’s beliefs on trans people are prohibited in the server and fest, and are grounds for immediate removal and banning from the fest. Any racism, homophobia, misogyny, or other bigotry will result in a ban.

·   Since this fest may contain explicit and dark content, it is only open to 18+ creators. You must be 18 years old at the time of signing up and joining the Discord server. If you're turning 18 during the sign-up period please make sure to only fill out the form after your birthday.

Out of the Woods by @allalrightagain (G, 1.7k) peter/petunia, post-halloween ‘81. truly a fairytale couple. be prepared to feel not-horrible things about very horrible characters. <3

Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Petunia who dreamed of getting out. Out of town, out of the house, out of the way of her perfect, peculiar sister and her strange, special friends. Unlike them, Petunia didn’t have magic to whisk her away from life as she knew it; it took time and hard work and a calculated “miracle” or two (oh that’s so funny! I just happened to…), until she got a wedding and a king and a castle far, far away, just as she’d always hoped.

Sentimental by @turanga4 (T, 300 words) HP4 goblet of fire, canon-compliant. LOVE a good graveyard scene alternate POV and this is appropriately ghastly. i really do like that image of peter meeting his ghosts.

Drink Before the War by @trinitydaydabbles (T, 5k). this was not posted to the AO3 collection but was so good i really didn't want it to get missed! james & peter, two friends meet up for a drink. lovely oneshot, between the wintry cold and the hog’s head and the wonderfully pitched conversation -- perfect sidelined peter characterization and first war vibes.

What would you have done? What would you have done? by Chelonie (T, 700 words) canon compliant, how peter got to turning traitor. a scary look at cult indoctrination tactics, one really feels for peter!

Forced the moment to its crisis by @patriceavril (M, 71 k) you read that wc right -- canon-compliant first war peter longfic with unrequited peter/mary macdonald (background sirius/mary and jily). both the fluff and the angst are incredibly well written and bring out the best-worst in each other. a comment by the author that... yes basically my feelings, except more eloquent --

If I had it my way the whole fic would have been silly baking nonsense but well canon did not make that attainable and also my boy makes not great decisions

This is the story of everything that happened in between.

A Peter-raises-Harry/Peter-is-Harry wherein Peter must face the rat he's become before he can claw his way towards redemption.

Peter didn't know why he thought this would be easy. Or: Some things form bonds. Troll fighting in bathrooms has always been one of those. Peter & Harry, Peter & the Golden Trio, Harry & Ron & Hermione (Also on Ao3!)

Peter was running.

Racing, weaving through crowds of feet and empty hallways alike.

(It was some of his better work, if he did say so himself.)

(It made him think of racing after a different messy head of black hair, testing out new quidditch drills or chasing each other to the Shack on full moons — which made him remember it was Halloween and no, not now)

The kids had come back from a midnight adventure with whispers of a three-headed dog and a trapdoor, and he’d vowed to keep a closer eye on them, though today it had been just as much to beat back his own ghosts than to protect Harry from his.

Tucking himself into Ron’s bag had been the right call, he knew, right up until it was unceremoniously dumped on Neville and Ron and Harry went running towards the danger, instead of away from it.

Cursing the Potter bloodline— not for the first time— he dodged a near trampling by a crowd of older Ravenclaws before skidding to a stop.

He didn’t need to give chase anymore.

He’d caught up to the boys, and the boys had found the troll.

The boys who were bravely (foolishly) not running away, but trapping the troll away in— that wasn’t a broom cupboard. Peter realized the same moment Hermione did, her shrill scream from inside the bathroom jolting Harry and Ron into opening the door again.

Peter had a split second to wish that his animagus form had come with the power and size he didn’t have as a human, that he might throw himself, as James or Sirius might have, in between the boys and their stupid, stupid act of chivalry before they got themselves killed.

He debated the merits of going for help— if only he still had the map— but no, even if he could find someone trustworthy enough to help, his own presence would negate it, prompt questions he couldn’t answer.

The door was swinging shut, Peter had only a moment to decide.

We’re brothers. We take care of our own. James’s voice echoed in his mind, a long ago conversation about a very different type of beast, but the message was the same: no one looks out for us better than we do.

He’d fucked that up before, he knew, biting back the grief. James might have said something different if he’d known what the future held. But James would also want his son to live, to survive his first year without being smashed to bits by a troll he had no business facing.

He was out of time. Even if it was the wrong decision, even if he fucked it up again, even if everything fell apart even more than it had before, this was something he had to do.

Mind made up, Peter slipped inside, so close he nearly caught his tail in the door.

The bathroom was a disaster. The troll had shattered the sinks along the wall, spraying water and debris. Hermione was trapped against the far wall; despite the boys’ attempts at distraction and Harry’s desperate calling for her to run, Peter could see no path clear of both frantic troll and obstruction.

It turned towards Ron, then, and Peter had a split second to consider his options— any chance of tripping the troll without collateral, or luring Harry away and consoling him on the loss of his newfound best friend— before Harry made the choice for him and did something so brave and so stupid it put nearly everything they’d done in seven years of school to shame.

With a great running leap (and an odd, bellowing call), Harry threw himself at the troll’s back and jabbed his wand straight into the troll’s sinuses.

The troll bucked, arms flailing and batting at its face, nearly flinging Harry off and into the stalls behind him.

Without thinking, without considering how it might all go wrong again, Peter transformed just in time to watch Ron levitate the troll’s club out of its hand.

Peter shot the most powerful stunner he could muster at its chest. Ron yelped and the club dropped, falling straight onto the troll’s head. It wobbled once, twice, and— before it could fall backwards and crush Harry or Hermione— Peter kicked hard at its right knee and it fell face first into the ground with a sickening thud.

All three kids looked at Peter in shock, and not, as he felt was warranted, at the newly stunned troll dominating the room.

“Who are you?” Harry asked.

A clatter sounded from down the hallway, making Peter jump.

“As far as anyone’s concerned, it was Ron’s quick thinking that saved you,”he said, glancing quickly at each of them. “Good job. Try to make it to Christmas without doing it again.” With that, he transformed into Wormtail and disappeared into the walls just as the door flew open.

Peter didn’t mind living with three boys — as far as boys went, they weren’t terrible. They made an effort at cleanliness, and occasionally even orderliness. They helped her open jam jar lids and retrieve things from high shelves and if — when — she eventually earned enough for her own place, she’d have all the moving help a girl could possibly want.

She also liked sticking it to whoever said girls and boys couldn’t be friends.

She wanted no part of their game night cuddles, though. Quiet in her own room she’d pretend to be studying, or sleeping — all the while wondering about herself, about everyone else — until the redhead moved in next door.

Peter had been the one to welcome her with fudge and cookies, walk around her studio apartment, laugh at how she’d unpacked all her books and nothing else.

“Waitress and aspiring poet,” Lily had admitted, green eyes shining, and every day Peter fell more and more in love with her.

“She’ll love it,” said James.

“It’s beautiful,” said Remus.

“Mmmmgph,” said Sirius, lips smeared, cheeks full.

Taking a deep breath, Peter crossed the hallway and knocked on the door — heart in her mouth, chocolate rose behind her back.
