Backstory below:
Their mother died when they were very young, and their father never really hung around for long, so Wren spent their life being passed between uncles, aunts, grandparents and family friends; with such little consistency in their life it was hard for anyone to get attached to the kid.
So, Wren ended up falling in with a bad crowd, being brought into a group of troublemakers, who for years of their life were Wren's only friends. Wren became known as "one of those kids" though they never felt like they properly fit in with their friends.
All of those conflicting feelings came crashing down one fateful summer when Wren finally snapped and left the group, resolving to become a better person. Cutting their hair and changing their look, Wren tried to branch out and make new friends, but quickly found they had no idea how to. Finding everyone already had friends, Wren quickly resigned themself to spending all their time alone, now becoming known as "that lonely kid". A title they hated. So they joined the choir, looking to make some new friends, and change how everyone views them.
