"careful, love. the first years have been infesting the corridors lately. they possess absolutely no spatial awareness, and i will not have you knocked over by a pack of running dunderheads."
severus sneered, glaring at the students who dared to run around the halls while you were walking by.
you chuckled softly, gently placing a hand over you growing baby bump.
"calm down, sev. they're just kids. let them run around and have fun. it's their age to do so."
severus looked at you from the corner of his eye. "dearest, you are too gentle. they should carry themselves with grace and manners, not loitering around like mindless fools."
you rolled your eyes. you knew how severus was, and how he'd never change. you still remember the warnings from your colleagues and even students. they were so concerned for you when news was out that severus and you were married.
you didn't care. severus was all you could ask for in a man. although he wouldn't express it loudly, he loved you more than anything. you were sure of it when you had almost lost your life in the battle of hogwarts, and severus did everything in his power to save you. even if it meant risking his double agent identity.
that night, you saw severus cry for the first time ever. severus thought nobody was around, and he broke down beside your bed in the nurse's office. but minerva was standing by the door, watching him weep.
you were never unsure of your life with severus.
until you found out you were pregnant.
severus wasn't the best with children. students despised him. not that it mattered to him. you, on the other hand, were loved by the students. it created a stark contrast between the two of you.
and with all the students creating jokes about how severus would never be a good father, your worry increased.
severus was happy with your pregnancy. but whenever you'd bring up the talk about the future, he'd change the subject. which only added to your inner conflict.
once you entered the third trimester, severus wouldn't let you leave your room.
severus whipped around, joining his hands together before raising a brow, giving you that intimidating look of his.
"do not make me repeat myself, love. your presence in a classroom is entirely out of question until you recover from childbirth. however long that may be."
you groaned, dragging a palm down your face, exasperated.
"who will take my classes, then?!"
his lips almost tugged up in an imperceptible smirk at your question.
"have a little faith, love. you know as well as i do that i excel in the subject. the dark arts will be handled with the gravity they deserve. neither you nor the students have anything to fear."
a pause. then, a sound closer to a chuckle.
"let us not forget who is the expert here. do you not recall our youth? when you routinely panicked before our exams and relied entirely on my benevolence to pass? you were remarkably... less adept than you care to admit."
"take that back, severus snape!"
you retorted, a small smile pulling your lips up regardless.
"i was merely stating the facts, dear."
it was true. before everything, during your school days, you were tutored by severus. it was what made you focus on your studies, and what distracted severus from lily.
over time, the two of you began feeling things for each other. it took severus way longer than you to acknowledge them, though.
he still teases you about it, and it pisses you off.
the students were not happy about the substitute teacher thing. severus was glad he didn't need to deal with a potter, a granger, or weasley for a while.
one day, severus was in his classroom, taking his usual potions class when minerva rushed in. immediately, he knew it involved you.
severus stormed to the nurse's office, his cape billowing behind him. before he could barge in, minerva stopped him.
"severus, perhaps you should wait outside."
you began screaming as the labour pain became too much to bear.
severus didn't listen to minerva's words. you were in pain and he needed to see you. minerva grabbed his arm, tugging him back.
"let me go, headmistress. my wife is in pain!"
minerva was about to reply but was interrupted by a baby's cry. a strangled sob left severus as he barged in, immediately walking over to where you were laid.
he leaned down and planted a soft kiss on your forehead, caressing your cheek. madame pomfrey walked over to severus.
"congratulations, professors. it's a baby girl."
severus closed his eyes, calming down as pomfrey continued to speak about how healthy the baby is and how you will be fine.
you asked, and pomfrey immediately brought the baby, now all clean, to you. pomfrey placed the little girl into your arms, and you let out a sob.
"she looks just like you."
you muttered, looking up at severus only to find him silently sobbing.
severus quickly wiped his tears before sniffling.
"perhaps," he murmured, his voice thick from the tears, "but she will undoubtedly possess your dreadful attitude."
you managed a chuckle. severus smiled gently at the sight. he leaned forward to rest his forehead against yours.
"i love you both more than words can ever describe."
