Mental Maze

Mental Maze, or Alex Lyng, was born into a cult. It was, of course, not advertised that way. 

Her parents both became a part of this cult after reaching out to their individual families and seeking help, which led them both to go to the closest mental institute. They did not do any research about it, which was their downfall. They met in there, and had both Alex and her sister.

Twins were seen as a bad omen, so the sister was sent away. They kept Alex, and when she was old enough, they decided to attempt summoning the demon they worshipped, Quanryo, to posses her. 

Though the demon was summoned, it wasnt how they were expecting. Alex had very good mental blockades, so the demon wasnt at full power. The energy the ritual produced ended up killing everyone in the room, except Alex. 

In the aftermath, she managed to escape, running into the forest that surrounded the hospital. She hid from the remains of the cult, and attempted to survive. 

Nowadays, she still lives in the forest. Though she has to kill to sustain the demon inside her, so it doesnt end up killing them both, she manages surprisingly well.

Nie Xiulan

A senior member of the Nie Sect. While she was born into a family of slaves, she eventually escaped her former life and became a part of the Nie sect. 

She was close with the former sect leader of the Nie clan, and when he passed away, she was one of the main caretakers for Nie Huaisang and Nie Mingjue. 

As she started cultivating quite late, her golden core is weaker than most. While she still fights, as is typical of a Nie cultivator, she mainly contributes through giving advice to people, and being one of the main parts of their spy network. 

Though most of the cultivators that are a part of the network on the Nie side have been apart of it since they were very young, she managed to gain the trust of the network through being polite and charming, whilst appearing as very genuine. Nowadays, she is a vital part of it.

Timeline - Nie Xiulan

0 - born to Xinyi and Suo Guoying, the oldest of 7, slave

10 - sold to underground brothel

12 - bought by Jin Fu, became his 3rd wife

13 - Jin Fu killed by a concubine, she escapes

14 - joins Nie sect

18 - Nie Jianhao becomes sect leader

21 - Nie Jianhao marries Aifeng

22 - Nie Minhjue is born

23 - Aifeng dies because of a serious illness

24 - Jianhao marries Qingyi, 

26 - Nie Huaisang is born, Qingyi dies in labor

31 - Jianhao dies, Mingjue becomes sect leader

39 - Huaisang’s first year at Cloud Recess

Currently coming up with some Nie family headcanons bcs of some oc stuff, so wanted to write it down somewhere.

NHS and NMJ’s father was named Nie Jianhao. He had a lot of the same ideals as NMJ, but in a less... naïve way. He knew that things weren't always as black and white as one may think, and while he had a big temper he was quite optimistic, and idealistic. While he wasn’t in love with his first wife, Aifeng, he did respect her and cared for her properly. After she died, he raised one of his concubines, Qingyi, to the status of wife. When Qingyi died giving birth to NHS, he got a lot more volatile and temperamental than before, and when WRH snapped his saber, he went fully mad. He usually went more after NHS since his unconscious mind connected him to Qingyi’s death. That is to say he became downright violent. One of the reasons for NHS’s weak cultivation when he got older was one incident where he took one of Nie Jianhao’s spiritually charged punches to the stomach and almost died. 

After Nie Jianhao died, his concubines chose to either work at the Nie sect, become disciples or leave with a pouch of money to do whatever they wanted. 

NMJ’s mother was from a minor sect, under the Nie. They were called the Hanlang sect, and they were from some of the coldest mountain in Qinghe. Aifeng was the oldest daughter and therefore the one married away to the ‘highest bidder’, so to say. She was a very clever person, and very good with mathematics. She took her role as Madam Nie very seriously, and always did her best- and she was good at it. While she never cared much for children, she took good care of NMJ whenever she wasnt busy. Which, admittedly was not often. When she was busy, either some servants or Qingyi would take care of NMJ. 

NHS’s mother, Qingyi, had been a dancer before becoming Nie Jianhao’s concubine. He was in love with her, but she wasn’t in love with him. She did appreciate him though, and saw him as a very good friend. One of her best friends was Aifeng, and so when she died, Qingyi was devastated. It was her decision to raise NMJ and NHS as close as they were, a decision she made before her death of course.
