Funny how life works. I went to Taiwan looking for reliable WiFi. I left with one of my favourite countries in Asia. After spending 10 weeks living, volunteering and backpacking around the island, I finally wrote the travel guide I wish I'd had before going. I expected neon lights, crowded streets, and a serious hit to my backpacker budget. Instead, I found pine forests that reminded me of Canada, a "shy" Mount Fuji hiding behind the clouds, sumo wrestlers walking past me at sunrise, tiny izakayas, haunted forests, endless torii gates and a Tamagotchi that somehow still works today. After three unforgettable weeks backpacking across Tokyo, Kawaguchiko, Kyoto, Nara and Osaka, I finally put together my complete Japan travel guide. Over the years, I've found my favorite philosophy and spirituality books through conversations with strangers, recommendations from friends, and tiny bookstores scattered across the world. Before visiting, I mostly associated Austria with mountains and skiing. What I found was a country that combines grand imperial cities, a rich musical heritage, coffeehouse culture, charming villages, and spectacular Alpine scenery. From wandering through Vienna's elegant streets and historic cafés to exploring Mozart's Salzburg, discovering the underrated city of Graz, travelling by van, and hiking with Karma, Austria offered a fascinating mix of culture, history, and nature. Whether through Mozart's legacy, street performers, concert halls, or the atmosphere of Vienna itself, it's hard not to notice how deeply it shapes Austrian culture. I've started organizing some of my book recommendations into categories. This first list focuses on adventure books. I just published a bilingual article exploring the differences between Québec French and French from France through literature, travel, translation, and a university assignment that came back with a grade that definitely left a mark. Somewhere between Québec, France, novels, and linguistic identity, I started wondering: If we technically speak the same language, why can it feel so different depending on where it’s read? And what happens to literature when the same words don’t land the same way? The article includes both the original French essay and the English translation. And my not-so-glorious note… well, maybe university teachers don’t always enjoy reading it, but I enjoyed writing it, so here it goes!

Denmark completely caught me off guard! I expected expensive coffee, bicycles and maybe some Viking history. Instead I found giant moving sand dunes, strange hippie towns, glowing blue springs hidden in forests, endless beaches, ferry adventures and some of the most blond humans I’ve ever seen. A literary analysis comparing Le Torrent by Anne Hébert and Lettres d’une Péruvienne by Françoise de Graffigny. This work explored how education, religion, isolation, and narration shape identity across very different centuries — and how both François and Zilia end up building their own form of knowledge through writing. It’s always strange to step back after something like this is done. So many pages, notes, rereadings… and suddenly it becomes a finished object instead of a process you live inside. I received a 98.3% on it, which still feels a bit unreal. If you’ve read either of these works, I’d genuinely love to know what they made you feel or notice.
Sweden weirdly reminded me of Canada! Forests, lakes, big spaces and suspiciously empty roads. Oh. And a lot of Ikea! Road tripping Sweden meant sleeping by water, making fire, picking wild berries like a tiny forest raccoon (great for survival and grocery savings), and casually spotting moose :) I also learned about Dala horses, endless summer light, and Stockholm’s subway that goes deeeeeeeep.
