"W-wait a minute! What are you–put me down! I'm an empress! E-m-p-r-e-s-s! We don't get carried around like sacks of rice!" Yuffie flailed an arm, trying to wriggle her way out of Vash's hold. "Put me–Wait, wait no not there!"

"Of course not!" She was. She very much was. She wasn't used to this much... snow, yet. How had Cloud and Tifa managed to survive growing up in a place like this one without dying horribly from exposure or whatever cold did to people?

"Are you?"

"Of course I know! About... uh, the thing that I'm supposed to know. I definitely know that." Now if she knew what she was supposed to know that'd be great! Time to get some intel.

She smirks harder in response, hands on her hips as she leans in. "You gonna make me, sis?"

They're not, but it's fun to say they are.

"The hell kinda money is this?" Yuffie wondered to herself, inspecting the strange paper bills in the wallet she'd swiped a moment ago. Not that she intended to keep it or anything, it'd mostly just been to keep her skills sharp.

Maybe if it'd been materia...

Regardless, whatever money this was it was pretty useless in Costa. None of it matched gil in any form. Even the lettering was wrong. (Not that she could read it even if it had been right.) Clearly, someone hadn't known what they were doing when they made it.

Bad counterfeit operation maybe?

"Hey! You dropped this!" Yuffie finally called, trying to catch the attention of the guy she'd robbed.

She honestly thinks it's Cloud for a brief moment when she sees the still image handed to her about an intruder on the border of Wutaii; it's the red coat that makes her take a second glance and realize that no, he's not Cloud.

He's brought in peacefully enough, at least. Doesn't even try to pull the gun reports say he has. It's why Yuffie decides to toss out all the formal outfits of the Empress of Wutaii and go to visit her new guest as if she was just another member of staff to see hm for herself.

(The servants despair, as usual. But it's good for them, she thinks. A little bit of character building.)

Not bothering with knocking or general manners, Yuffie slams the door of the room he's been relegated to open and waltzes in cheerfully. "So! You're the guy!"

A blue Shinra issued phone with only his number in it? That much info wasn’t eve ringing a bell with Zack and he was the one who’d had his mail address stolen! He would’ve almost said it’d been the first phone he’d lost, but…his phones had always been black and silver; not blue. Either way, Zack would hold up a single finger. 

“ You know an answer like that’s only gonna earn you one candy anyway, right? ”

“I can’t believe you’re so stingy.” She took the candy before he can change his mind though, shoving it into her mouth. “It’s not my fault whoever lost their phone didn’t tell you they lost it!”

Actually maybe she has it? She didn’t remember ever throwing it out... But it’s been awhile so who knows where it is? She started digging into her pockets thoughtfully before finding exactly what she’s looking for buried at the bottom of her small bag finally. “See!”

She held  up the old, mostly crushed PHS. It had definitely seen more abuse since the day she found it. It is not blue. It is definitely a deeply faded black. “See? Blue.”

“Did you know that SOLDIERS are ninety five percent jello? True facts!”

“Don’t sound so surprised!” Cloud couldn’t help but to be a little offended, honestly. He crossed his arms over his chest and sighed, but decided to humour her (even if she should have already heard him introduce himself to Sephiroth over the phone). 

“Cloud Strife. Ex-SOLDIER First Class.” 

Her nose wrinkled at the mention of SOLDIER, but she didn’t comment on it. Instead Yuffie shrugged, crossing her own arms over her chest in mimicry of him.

“Great! Now we can get going and meet your friends.” Hopefully they weren’t all a bunch of former SOLDIERS; she hadn’t known they could even leave Shinra or whatever, honestly. She’d stay of course since Sephiroth had asked her to investigate but...

“Where are they?”
