King Kong Bundy on Married… With Children [October 29th, 1995]

Married… With Children was one of the first syndicated programs to mention taboo subjects in passing as if it were regular conversation. It was a perfect program to have some relationship with the world of professional wrestling! The main characters of the series (Al, Peggy, Bud, and Kelly) were the Bundy family, which may or may not have been a callback to professional wrestler King Kong Bundy. Then again, the original neighboring family had the last name Rhodes, so it’s entirely possible!

This suspicion could be confirmed, however, by two appearances by King Kong Bundy himself. First in a 1987 episode as Peggy’s brother Uncle Irwin. Then again in 1995 when Bundy appeared as his wrestling persona in an episode titled Flight Of The Bumblebee, where Bud has to earn a spot in his father’s NO MA’AM group by crashing a pro wrestling match.
