Some days I just feel like Paris

Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by how important and amazing the the 1997 R&H Cinderella was. Like it’s 2013 and we were excited as hell for Twisted because it had a black woman in an interracial relationship but yo this movie did it twice, with Cinderella and with Whoopi’s character, the Queen.
Moreover, this is what I’m going to refer people to when they say “Rapunzel has to be blonde” or “it’s inaccurate to have POC in this vaguely Germanic fairy tale.” Like nah, this movie pretty clearly shows that if you can turn a pumpkin into a carriage you can literally do what you want. (by literally i mean Whoopi, Victor Garner, and Bernadette Peters’ characters all have children with different ethnicities than them and no one in universe bats an eye)
Also the original Julie Andrews version had lyrics about Cinderella having skin as white as a swan or something like that, which Brandy obviously doesn’t have, but instead of having 17 shitfits and insisting only a white woman can play her they changed the damn lyrics. I’ve heard both versions of the song in question dozens of times and wow who knew altering three words could change everything and also nothing at all??? WOW (they also took out the reference to slaves which was swell)
Being fairly young at the time, I can’t remember how successful this movie actually was when it came out (as opposed to gathering a following over time) but according to Wikipedia it was “the #1 show of the week, with over 60 million viewers. It became the highest-rated TV musical in years.” Which seems pretty good.
So like…lol you can say that there’s no room for POC in your made-up fairy tale stories, but the truth is things only have to be all white if you jokers keep *insisting* on it.
"Honey be my little sun,
When we aint getting none,
And cup your hands round a match,
and fasten up your last jacket latch,
stand and sway with me,
In the dark cold loneliness breeze.”
I just discovered this really awesome site. Emotionalbaggagecheck.com
It’s a site that lets you leave the things that are bothering you anonymously. When someone chooses to “carry your baggage" they’ll get your submission, and send a song and a personal note to your email address through the site (it’s never shown publicly) that may help you with what you’re going through. I think this is an amazing idea! Don’t keep scrolling past this cause it’s actually worth checking out! :)
This is actually really helpful; your email is kept private and there’s no log in or sign up required. Even typing my problems out seemed to help, and you can always change your mind at any point in time. The site itself has a very calming atmosphere and I’d recommend it to all of my followers who either like helping people or have a few things to get off their chest (or both!) This idea really is pretty amazing.

A dying friend once told me, ‘I wish I hadn’t spent so many Mondays wishing it were Friday. I also wish I had made better use of those Fridays, for better stories on Monday.’

I will teach my daughter not to wear her skin like a drunken apology. I will tell her ‘make a home out of your body, live in yourself, do not let people turn you into a regret, do not justify yourself. If you are a disaster it is not forever, if you are a disaster you are the most beautiful one I’ve ever seen. Do not deconstruct from the inside out, you belong here, you belong here, not because you are lovely, but because you are more than that.’
