HIATUS NOTICE.

Not that I’ve been incredibly active of late anyway but I still think it best to throw this out there. I’ll be jet setting twice this month and in between both trips I’ll be working extra hours to pay for said trips therefore my activity level is about to hit the floor, and hit it hard.

I’ll add to my queue whenever I can but that aside it’s goodbye till August.

                                 “It’s  the  best  that  you’ll  ever  have.”               Maybe  she  was  over-selling  this  place  a  little …  SURE,  it  was  her  personal  favourite,  but  what  if  Mike  had  been  some place  better?  He  could  have  been  to  China  for  all  she  knew.  Aside  from  what  had  occurred  in  the  last  few  months  and  what  little  intel  she’d  managed  to  drag  out  of  Ryan,  she  really  didn’t  know  that  much  about  him.      She  fished  the  menu  out  of  the  kitchen  draw,  dusted  it  off  ( Ryan  had  a  preference  for  burgers  and  pizza  )  and  walked  it  over  to  the  couch,  sitting  next  to  him  before  opening  it  up.

                                         “I  mean,  LOOK —-   this  place  has                                             got  chow  mein  cantonese,  squid  …                                           WHATEVER       YOU’RE       INTO.”

                                                       “ --- Quite the selection.”

   Much like EVERY western style Chinese restaurant --- courses    weren’t printed in numerical format to make the menu more    appealing but because Mrs Zhang didn’t have the time to pen write    Gong Bau Chicken, cooked dry, without the fried peanuts.  We were    spoilt for choice, much like the way Richard Branson chose to cosset    us with 130+ television channels --- most of which played repeats    from the nineties.                           “You know – I’ve probably tried every restaurant within       six blocks of my place --- Finding time to cook more than a grilled       cheese in this line of work is IMPOSSIBLE but --- judging by Ryan’s       take out menu drawer you know all about that.”   He was behind her now --- scanning the menu over her shoulder, much   resembling the boy that had once craned his neck to read the headlines   of his mothers newspaper.

      He took a swig from the polystyrene cup and followed it with a       grimace --- IT WAS COLD, great. In a city averaging 82 degrees       you’d think that the heat would at least contribute to keeping a       lousy cup of coffee warm enough to drink.                “You really want to do this, LT? --- This is the third        STAKEOUT this week and I don’t know about this --- I just got a                                     feeling we’re not gonna find anything here.”

       He could drum his fingers on the keys faster than Mozart himself        could tickle the piano but he’d been outdone by --- CAROLINE        FORBES.                          “ --- Clearly. Where’d you learn to do that? -- C’mon,                   I’m willing to lose my pride here -- for a                                            COFFEE and some answers.”

                        “Ahh,  sure  —-   y e a h  …                                       YOU’RE  WELCOME.”                 A  painful  grimace  clung  to  her  features,  and  rather  that  an  attempting  to  wipe  it  away  with  a  smile,  she  turned  her  back  under  the  pretence  of  riffling  through  one  of  the  kitchen  draws  for  the  menu.  N E V E R  had  she  been  the  most  skilled  in  masking  her  feelings,  but  around  h i m  it  was  NEAR  IMPOSSIBLE.  He  would  have  noticed  this  by  now  …  but  as  it  happened,  life  hadn’t  dealt  them  any  cards  from  the  normality  deck  lately,  so  he  probably  hadn’t  even  considered  the  possibility  of  …  t h e m.  Which  begged  the  question,  WHY  WAS  IT  ALL  SHE  COULD  THINK  OF  EVERY  TIME  SHE  LOOKED  AT  HIM?

     He returned to the couch but wavered on sitting, the cushions still wore      his shape from before it was that tiny detail that lead him to one of the      many, floor length windows. He stared out over New York City      recognising that the world just kept on turning --- The Wonder Wheel      still spun at Coney Island, people still chased their dogs in Central Park      and Times Square was still a traffic nightmare, REGARDLESS OF THE      TIME. The world didn’t stop just because his FATHER WAS DEAD,      and neither would he --- he broke free from the ties of companionable      silence and spoke up.              “  ----- so, this RESTAURANT. It’s really                                                     something special, Mhm?”       WAS THAT IT? In world full of stuttering idiots and nervous tendencies        the FBI agent couldn’t even manage a simple CHAT UP LINE?

Gunnar --- THAT WAS IT. He tapped the        six letters into the box where the curser had been blinking unwearyingly        for his guidance, G.U.N.N.A.R --- the screen changed, foreign code        danced across the moniter in rhythmic patterns.                   “- I’M IN. Thanks, Man --- seriously, you’ve                                              saved me another six hours on this.”

Caroline was always up for A CHALLENGE. Cocking HER HEAD to the side she looked at the COMPUTER SCREEN before walking up to the KEYBOARD as her fingers FOUND A RHYTHM. As her PINKY FINGER hit the enter button she JUMPED UP and crossed her arms, “Is THIS what you were TRYING to do ? ” She forced a SERIOUS look on her face.

He utilised the wheels at the base of his chair --- rolling back to give the girl ROOM TO FAIL, he lounged back --- pushing the chairs ergonomic features to the max ---- WAIT? He sprang forward, almost overbalancing the chair to study the monitor with a look of unadulterated perplexity.

                   she  hadn’t  expected  that  it  would  take  very  long.  like  he  said,  he   w a s   a  FEDERAL  AGENT.  she’d  gone  in  there  comfortable  in  the  knowledge  that  her  story  wouldn’t  hold  up  under  closer  scrutiny.  it  didn’t   matter  though  —-   all  she’d  needed  was  to  get  her  foot  in  the  door.  now,  it  was  time  for  a  p i n c h  of  T R U T H.                           “i  a l s o  thought  you  might  be                              looking  for  some  company?      just                              someone  to  argue  with  for  the                              remote  and  tell  you  when  you’ve                              got  sweet  and  sour  sauce  on                              your  chin  —-”

                  “--- I’m ACTUALLY not much for TV --- RIGHT                    that’s not the point is it? --- Okay, but just for                    the record I’m a master with chopsticks. I grew                    up in San Diego --- there’s a restaurant on every                    block” It really wasn’t about the television --- HE SAW THAT NOW but even so the remote was hers, he’d let her unremittingly hit the dart shaped button that changed the station (sometimes for the better but mostly for the worst) --- he had THREE BROTHERS --- The TV had never been in his control.                              “So – I’ll let you order I mean You travelled THIRTY                MINUTES for this, you obviously have something in mind                                                 ---- oh and Max --- THANK YOU.”
