there are wounds that never close, although they seem healed

When you love someone, you say their name different. Like it’s safe inside your mouth.
Jodi Picoult, Handle with Care (via thelovejournals)
Still smiling Autumn shook her head. “No, she wouldn’t mind.” She let out a little chuckle. “Thank you Scott, but that’s alright. I’m almost done moving everything around and I’ve got Mason to help me as well. All the boxes are pretty much where they need to be, I just have to start unpacking.” She explained. “No its.. I just miss my mom I guess. But she’ll be back in town soon enough. Her business trip is just taking a little longer than expected. ’ she replied with more of a cheery tone. Yes she was a bit disappointed her mother wasn’t with her at the moment but she didn’t really want to be labeled he ‘sad dull girl’ her first week in town. She wasn’t all that sad anyways. Just a little disappointed.
"Sorry," Scott smiled guiltily. Autumn seemed great, and he wasn't about to label her. He just wanted to help ease some of the weight from everyone around him. "When does she get home?" he asked as he opened the door to the school and held it open, "I'm glad my mom doesn't have to take long business trips, she works at the hospital so I can usually go see her during her lunch breaks."
“I bet your mom misses you too, though.” he said, offering a reassuring smile.
“mm yeah, i remember,” kira let out a soft laugh. considering it was just about the sweetest thing anyone had done for her and simultaneously the most terrifying night of her life, it wasn’t something she’d easily forget. her heart warmed at the thought of scott, miles away yet so familiar in all his need to help others, his need to make sure everyone was okay. it was one of the things that drew her to him that first day, the softness of his smile, the warmth of his being. it was like she knew him for years before they had ever spoken much more than a few (painfully awkward on her behalf) words. knew him from the core just by the tilt of his smile.
god, she missed him.
“so when you say along the same lines, are you talking star wars too? because you forgot a crucial component last time,” she teased, fingers tugging idly at the loose strings on the seam of her worn jeans.
He’d missed that laugh. He wished he was there to see her laughing now. Though if he were wishing for things, he’d actually prefer for her to be back with them; with him. it felt like too long since he’d heard her laugh. It was too long.
“Hey!” he said with a laugh, pretending to be offended, “you’re the one who turned the movie off!” he teased her back and looked over at the picture he had of her on his dresser. Rolling over on his bed to take it down, he lay on his side to look at her while they spoke. “I was thinking more just a romantic night in, or something. Star Wars can wait until we can all watch it together.”
Stiles would definitely appreciate that.
“yeah, yeah. i’m sure you didn’t mind anyway,” kira’s smile couldn’t possibly get any wider but it felt like it was managing to do so anyway at the sound of scott’s laughter. she cleared her throat, pursing her lips a little in an attempt to keep from bursting at the seams. it was hard not to smile with scott around.
“it’s so lonely out here, you know? i train all day, the sun goes down and all i can think about is how if i were home, if i were with you right now we’d be happy. watching a movie, studying like normal teenagers, i don’t know.”
kira took a long breath, shifting with the phone still pressed to her ear so that she could lay down amongst her blankets.
He closed his eyes as he listened to her and let her picture rest down on his stomach. “I definitely didn’t mind the kissing,” he admitted, still smiling. “The kissing was definitely better than Star Wars,”
“---Don’t tell Stiles I said that.”
How was it that he couldn’t stop smiling? It wasn’t the right question. He knew why. It was just-- Kira. She could always make him smile. She always had. Even in times he thought he’d never smile again, or never want to.
He toyed with the edge of the frame, wishing more than anything that she wasn’t alone over there.. “I don’t think anybody could ever call you normal, Kir. In the best way.” Thinking about her being home though, of them tucked away in bed listening to music and watching movies, studying and holding hands, quizzing each other about the most random things; made his heart throb and ache with longing.
“Hey, what if we listened to some music together now?” he asked, eyes opening as the idea came to his head. “We’ll listen to the same song and press play at the same time.”
I bet you never even knew, That there’s a universe inside of you.
“What no balloons ??” The brunette said dryly, dark eyes scanning the room. “Not much of a welcome back party.”
Scott had not seen that coming. “Cora?” he blinked, eyeing the brunette. “What are you doing here?”
“Welcome back!” he said, kicking himself internally and trying to backpedal, “how are you?”
“I’ve heard of the famous Corey, yes.” She smiled nodding. “I could help out with he date planning if you’d like.” Autumn offered. Her smile grew as she replied with “ Thank you Scott, I really appreciate that.” The anxiety she was feeling earlier seemed to be waring off and she was finally starting to feel more comfortable.
Scott smiled his relief, glad he hadn’t gotten Mason in any trouble. “That would actually be really great,” he answered, smile widening ever so slightly, “I haven’t planned a big date for a while.” It was true, the last date he’d planned had kind of ended in disaster, but it has been great up until that moment. “Maybe one night after you’re done exploring with Rosie, you could join us and mom for a family dinner and we can think about it then?”
“It’s settled then.” She said with a big grin plastered onto her face. “Really?” She said in complete surprise. People in her old town were the farthest thing from being as welcoming or as kind as the people here so it was a bit of a shock to her every time someone did something out of kindness simply because they wanted to.“I mean sure, that would be great.” She replied quickly not wanting him to feel weird about how surprised she was. “Maybe one day you guys could come over to meet my mom when she gets back into town.” She wasn’t really sure when her mom was coming back but she hoped it wouldnt be that long of a wait.
Scott sensed the young girl’s surprise and tilted his head, figuring her old town probably wasn’t as welcoming. He wondered to himself whether maybe she wasn’t used to being settled in any one place. “Your mom wouldn’t mind that?” he asked, feeling something else from Autumn.
“You know; if you still have boxes and things at your place you could always stay with us,” he offered, then blinked and brought a hand up to rub the back of his neck. “I swear, I’m not a serial killer or anything,” he paused, “I just, you seem a little--- sad? And my sister’s room is pretty huge. And we have a couch. With my sister moving back, I know things can get a little much with everything uprooted. And stuff.” he finished, hoping he hadn’t scared the girl off or ruined any chances his sister had of making a new friend.
The only thing I know is this: I am full of wounds and still standing on my feet.

Scott laughs, agreeing, “And definitely no Rosie Baloney?”
“Hey, so you’ve been writing quite a while then!” Scott was pretty excited at the idea of spending some normal downtime with his sister. Especially doing something they both seemed to really enjoy. Scott hadn’t really ever played for anybody before though. Stiles had once caught him playing one afternoon when he’d burst into his room but Scott had stopped straight away. And he dreamed he played for Kira once but he supposed that didn’t count. Maybe sharing this with his sister would make sharing it with his friends that much easier. “I bet you’re great at both! You’ll have to go easy on me.”
“Ooh, that one is the worst. I tried to block that out of my memory.” She giggles. “I guess I have been playing for a while.” Rosalie never thought that she was as great as everyone had told her she was. She shook her head and looked down at her papers. “Well, I’m not that good.”
Scott really was glad to have his sister here. He was glad she was making friends, he was glad that she liked seeing him. He was just glad of all of it, really. The only thing that had been gnawing at him was that eventually, she'd find out. Everything. He wasn't sure how he felt about that. Nervous probably. Terrified. He didn't want to put her in any danger, but from what he'd learned from past experiences, not knowing could cause just as much devastation. "Did you play much for dad?" he wondered, attention drawn back to the present, to his little sister standing in front of him. He reached out when her head lowered, resting a gentle hand on her shoulder. She doubted herself a lot. He could feel it. "We'll play together," he encouraged, "it'll be awesome."
“You did a pretty great job learning from Kira. I think Stiles was secretly a little pleased when you bet on us.” He followed Malia into the gymnasium, pulling the doors shut behind them. “Our lives are never going to be completely normal, but maybe some semblance of it wouldn’t be the worst thing.” Scott chuckled, “A movie? Movie night could work; you don’t have anything you want to watch?”
´yeah, i remember that but i had to, i mean, for me it was like no fair´ at least at that moment because she didn’t knew a thing of lacrosse ´maybe, however, i’m just going to be here and learning and all of that but nothing else, i’m not going to pretend something that i’m not´ at the end, she didn’t really like that ´i can watch anything but i think stiles wants you to watch star wars´
Scott frowned. He'd heard felt this from Malia before, "are you planning on going somewhere?" he asked. Nobody wanted her to pretend to be normal, not really. They just wanted to blend in so they could keep up with everything else. "Stiles always wants us to watch Star Wars."

Where I always stopped to see how far I’d come, this time I kept walking. Sometimes it’s better not to look back.
Ransom Riggs, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
hearing his voice sent her stomach into flutters, and before she spoke she left out a breath she hadn’t even realised she had been holding.
“hi– i miss you too,” kira sank to the floor, all of her muscle and nerves relaxing all at once, just at the sound of scott breathing on the other end.
“i’m… getting by. learning, i think, but it doesn’t feel like much progress when i’m counting the minutes that pass wishing i were with you,” she paused, pulling her lip between her teeth, all smiles.
“and yes, i’m eating. nothing good, but i guess pizza delivery to the middle of the desert is a bit much to expect huh?”
Scott couldn’t help the beam that split across his face when he heard that she missed him too. He let himself ease back on his bed, muscles that were so tightly wound finally relaxing at the sound of her voice. “When you say things like that it makes it that much harder not to come get you right now and bring you home. I miss you so much,” he repeated. “I’d bring pizza, too.”
It was hard having her away from the pack; she must have felt so alone. At least Scott had his friends. They all took care of one another. “So you remember our date back at Derek’s, right?” Scott bit his lip, thinking about it. Their movie date disaster. It had still been awesome, though, a much needed night of almost-normality. “Mason has been struggling a lot fitting back in– so I kind of offered to organize a date for him and Corey along the same lines.”
Filling Kira in on a little of what was going on felt like a good idea, maybe it would help her to feel included and less alone? Scott liked that idea. “Any ideas?” he asked, sounding hopeful.
