I’m stuck on a bus for the next three hours because I just saw Bigone live and live literally 150 miles away (sidenote: I now want a Kim Daeil FC. Pls talk me out of this) and need to stay awake, so this is an open starter call for Jaebeom! I’ll probably cap this later because I am weak/so I don’t run out of ideas, but for now like or comment on this post if you’d like a starter and I’ll invade your ims or get something drafted!
Guilt filled her - she did not want him to feel bad about her not sharing. It was just - she did not want to push too much on a stranger. Her mind was full of several things bothering her and she was about to split but she had to keep her cool. “You didn’t - it’s just – hard for me to talk about ?” confusion filled her body as she rested her elbow on the table to prop her cheek up, letting out a sigh. “My life is just complex right now.” That was the truth, her life was a confusing tunnel she had no way to navigate. She relaxed as he spoke his name - happy to know her lunch companion. “its really nice to meet you JB.” She flashed a small smile in his direction. “I’ve found Wonyang to have really sweet citizens - no wonder i was told to move here.”
“Thats a long day.” she was shocked he was even still able to function, after working for so long Serah would usually lock herself up in her room and sleep forever - practice days always did that to her. It was a curse and a present to be an IDOL, she always worked and was always busy. So now without anything she felt lost, reason for her being here. “What kind of pans though ? Like medical pans ?” She asked rather curiously tilting her head to the side as she spoke. “Sorry if im being nosy, just curious. “ The girl let out a soft laugh holding out her hands in a slightly defensive manner. “Ah I usually cook, but today I decided to get a treat - but I do have to go to the store before I go back so we’ll have stuff to cook other days. “
His next question took her by surprise it seems lately more and more people had been recognizing her - a real shock. “Oh, I don’t thin we’ve met.” Her voice was soft, a small laugh following her words. “You might recognize me from my music? But I’m not sure, i’ve only had one song that charted well. My stage name is SEOHARE.” As she stated the name, she made air quotes, flashing him a small smile - totally forgetting the sadness within her. “I’d be amazed if you knew that.”
“No no, please, you don’t need to explain. I totally understand. Just wanted to make sure you were okay. For what it’s worth, I hope you figure everything out soon.” He said softly but warmly, trying his best to muster up some form of reassuring expression. Recognising when other people were struggling was something that Jaebeom had always been good at, but consoling them? Not so much. He barely knew how to keep his own life in order, let alone how to fix everyone elses. He nodded again as she spoke, and reciprocated the smile before going in for another small sip of coffee. “It’s good to meet you too Serah.” He answered brightly. “The people around here are definitely lot friendlier than I’m used to. Have you been here long?”
“It could be a lot worse.” He shrugged in response to her next statement, though he was sure that the blackened bags under his eyes would suggest otherwise. The days were long and at times the workload was intense, but it was rewarding in it’s own way. And besides, he had to provide somehow so there was little point in complaining. “I work at a food stall beach side, so I’d hope they are’t medical pans. Guess I should have been more specific. They’re more like moulds, really. But they work the same way as a skillet so... same difference.” Another shrug, another chuckle and another bright smile. “The heat can just be kind of rough to deal with. Especially in the summer.”
The name meant nothing to him. After taking a brief moment to scan through his thoughts he came up completely blank. Growing up in London, a lot of the artists popular in Korea simply didn’t get the coverage or the exposure. Jaebeom had only been back in the country for little under a year, and had thus far had far more pressing things to pay attention to than the music scene. In truth the Idol system was completely lost on him. Nonetheless, noticing how her mood seemed to lighten (At least ever so slightly), he decided to simply ride the wave. “I think- yeah, of course! I’m so sorry, I should have realised sooner.” He beamed, lying through his teeth. “If I’d realised I was sitting with a celebrity I wouldn’t have bothered you. My bad.”
Ayeong was pretty sure that it wasn’t technically sneaking out when she left the house to wander around town. After all, sneaking out implied doing something that your parents had forbidden, or that was against the law. And she wasn’t really doing either - she did have a piano lesson later, so she just left a few hours earlier than she was expected. And if she spent the extra time walking around Wonyang, what was wrong with that?
Regardless of whether she should be or not, there she was. Today, she had left early enough that she had missed breakfast - but it was worth it. She had spent the morning walking along the shore, enjoying the late summer breeze. She often came here to watch the other people and wonder what kind of lives that they led. Ayeong was so deep in her thoughts that she barely noticed the time passing. It was only once she spotted a food stand that she realized how hungry she was - and whatever was being cooked smelled delicious.
She walked over to where the food was being prepared, and smiled brightly at the man behind the stand. “Hello! I would like two, please.”
When he’d first decided to re-open the stall, Jaebeom had been warned that business would be slower during the summer months. Though the pace was hardly glacial, there was no denying that the cloying heat of Wonyang’s August had dampened for his product. In fact, they were barely breaking even. Another worry for him to file away and repress. Meseaures had been taken to try and combat this, namely investment in a beaten up old soft serve machine and a set of new moulds to make the bungeoppang function as a makeshift cone, but the machine had broken within a month. There was no way he could afford to have it looked over by a professional, and so in the quiet times busied himself trying to figure out how to repair it himself.
And yet, despite all of this, whenever a customer did materialize, they were greeted with a beaming grin and his usual sense of unquenchable enthusiasm. Today was a good day, and for once custom was booming. Rather than having batches prepared ahead of time, Jaebeom made the pastries to order. He’d say that this was so that they didn’t lose their texture in the sea air, but it was largely just to minimize waste. That also meant a lot of raw batter and ingredients, and not much space or time to work with.
Flipping the mould on the stalls furthest right, he balanced a bowl of mixture on the all too small surface, smiling up at the other as she approached and ordered. His hands moved at an impressive speed, alternating between beating the mix, flipping pans and removing and bagging each snack with precision. “Hey, of course! The machine’s not working, but I can do you two traditional red bean ones? I promise they’re the best in the city.” He asked apologetically, pulling one free from the pan with a long pair of tongs and sipping it into a small paper sleeve before handing it over to another customer with a quick thanks. “Sorry, it might take me a couple of minutes to catch up. Do you mind waiting?”
Dark orbs looked over him, begging her mind to not take over again - well for the moment she shared the table. It was hard not to get pulled into her thoughts - after all it was a hard year. “Coffee is always great for a long day.” A soft laugh fell past her lips as she picked up her glass - taking a sip of water. His question prompted her to get defensive, however she stopped herself from putting up that front. “ I’m…..fine? I guess, just a lot of things going on, you know?” Her voice kind of died off at the end, shaking her head leaning over her plate to take a bite of her food the sudden urge to eat filled her body and avoid answering really what was wrong. As she did not want to cry again today. “Just wrapping my mind around it, trying to figure how to fix it.” she spoke after she finished chewing her bite
“You see very tired, busy day at work or something?” Her voice was curious as she looked over his tired figure taking down his coffee - she never really enjoyed that stuff so watching someone else take it down with such ease honestly impressed her a bit. “Are you sure you don’t want some food too - I know some coffee addicts call that a meal in a cup but i’m not too sure about that.” The comment was suppose to be lighthearted and teasing - she even added a laugh at the end. She wanted a new friend - for some reason unknown to her - so she decided to try with this male, though he was much older than her ( she guessed ). “I’m Serah by the way.” A small, slightly forced smile spread on her lips, “Thank for joining me.”
To say that he was unconvinced by the performance would be an understatement. Perhaps it was because he’d grown so accustomed to putting up a similar front himself, or perhaps simply because concern and empathy were deeply rooted into him. Whatever the reason was, he stopped short of pressing the issue. After all, it was far from the place of a complete stranger to show up and offer completely unsolicited advice when they had no clue what the were advising on - no matter how well meaning they may be. “Sorry if I overstepped.” He apologised sheepishly, flashing a flat smile at her before taking another long sip. “Guess I just know what it’s like to get stuck in your own head.”
The change of subject sent a wave of relief crashing over him. Though he would normally talk your ear off if give the chance, Jaebeom had never been especially skilled at dealing with more serious or intense topics. As the other let out a laugh, he found himself reciprocating and allowing the previously flat smile to loom into a slightly fuller grin. “Jaebeom. Or Jae, JB, whatever’s easiest.” He responded with a beaming grin and a nod, taking another sip of his coffee and letting the bitter taste linger. “And I’m good. Honestly, I’ve been standing behind pans for eight, maybe nine hours so I just needed to sit down and this place is normally a lot emptier. I’ll have to cook when I get home anyway, so it’s probably easier to just wait.” He shrugged, feeling himself physically relax as he allowed himself to sink back into the seat.
Serah’s face was one that he vaguely recognised, though from where he wan’t entirely sure. Though he’d been in Wonyang for less than a year, he saw so many faces on a daily basis that most everyone seemed somewhat familiar. His eyebrows knitted together into a gentle frown as he racked his brain for a brief moment before giving up. “We’ve... not met before, have we?” He asked, cocking his head to the side slightly. “I just... I’m sure I know you.”
I never watched Naruto much growing up, but Grimmjow was always one of my faves. ( ’ and she was so confident with her words, a shoulder lifting in a light shrug and as she popped another fry into her mouth. a fool who didn’t realize her mistake until it was far too late to take it back )
I don’t think they really showed Naruto back home, at least not when I was a kid, so I never watched it either. [He mused with an emphatic nod, picking up a fry of his own and inspecting it closely before taking a bite] Saw Bleach once though and... Grimejow was probably the best part, so I agree with you on that. [A wince crossed his features as he realised that he’d butchered the name that had been used only moments before. In truth he’d never seen either and had no clue what she was saying. He’d thought he could lie through his teeth and make it up as he went. Apparently not.]
“But then Byeonghan-ssi suddenly forgot how to do his job and didn’t put in the extra order for the glaće fruit, so we didn’t have enough for the wedding reception. The kitchen was confused, the guests were due any minute, it was absolute chaos – but of course we compromised, only because I happen to know how to make them from scratch.” there sounds an exasperated sigh and a click of the woman’s tongue; the last thing anyone wanted to do was work that was far more than their job description entailed- but sometimes it just couldn’t be helped when you’re surrounded by nothing but incompetence.
“Goes to show you can’t hire an idiot to do a basic job.”
and perhaps that made her sound a bit mean; kimberly was self-aware in that aspect of what to say and how to cushion her words, but she couldn’t find it in her to shut the window exposing her inner truths when all she wanted to do was unwind. small talk was becoming a chore in itself anyway and kim didn’t bother to continue her story, instead opting to pick up the sunscreen to lather on her skin.
“But enough about me. Tell me about your day,” without so much as turning to face her company, kimberly only asked as an act of consideration- not in genuine curiosity; however, she kept an ear open while putting the most of her attention at the task at hand. deft fingers were quick to work the sunscreen over her arms, her legs- any surface of skin peaking from the cloth of her bathing suit to avoid a nasty burn later on.
the sun was blaring, families and friends were laughing and yelling – it’d been a while since kimberly had been out on leisure and so a mini vacation was of no question. the beach was always one of her choice spots to hang around and there was never any harm in bringing a plus one, of which small hums of faux acknowledgement were sounded in response to them before she was quick to hijack the conversation once more, turning her head with a small pout playing at her lips in order to soften her offence.
“Lets go play in the water ~~ Or at least let me kick your ass in some one-on-one vollyball.”
Though he’d spent much of the day sheltered in the shade, there was no escaping the oppressive heat of that August sun. He’d foolishly decided to dress in black for whatever reason, and though his tee and shorts combo was relativelt loose fitting he was still finding the summer conditions ombined with the heat of the plate to be stifling. And so as the temperature hit his peak, he decided to flee the stall on his break, bumping into Kimberley and heading for the beach.
Considering he worked only an arms length away, it was almost strange how little time he’d spent there. Rather than cloudy, swamp like water and discoloured sand littered with sharp gravel of his home country, Cheonpo wa the very picture of paradise. The sound of sand gently cruncing underfoot and waves quietly lappping the shore punctuated both her story and the roar of life from the other occupants. Not entirely sure how he’s suppossed to react to her tale, Jaebeom nods along in what he thinks are all the correct place, and lets out a gentle chuckle at the conclusion with a shake of his head. Calling him an idiot seemed a little harsh, but then it was far from his place to say that. Instead, it was easier to just smile politely and be agreeable. That worked in most situations.
“My day?” He asks cautiously, getting the distinct impression that the question was less than sincere. People rarely asked wanting a genuine answer, they were just making polite small talk to fill the empty space between them. Nonetheless he shrugged his shoulders with an attempt at nonchalance. “Slow. You’d think that w’d be busy in the summer with everyone coming down to the beach but there’s not been much footfall since the soft serve machine malfunctioned. Need to get that fixed actua-”
Jaebeom caught himself just before her next request, reigning himself in before he launched into a full saga. Rambling was an unfortunate habit of his, and if he hadn’t stopped himself mid-flow he could easily have continued for another twenty minutes. “I hate to be that guy, because the water sounds so good right now, but I was only taking a quick break.” He answered after letting the silence hang for a few moments to genuinely consider it. “And I don’t think that many people are going to buy food from someone dripping seawater all over it.”

A soft sigh fell pass her lips as the girl sat down in a local cafe. It has been awhile since she had a decent meal, honestly she was getting very thin due to the fact. It was starting to scare her friend, another reason why she didn’t post any social media updates. Concern from her fans was not needed right now. It was not something she deserved. In front of her was a pork plate - one of her favorite foods. Though it was her favorite she couldn’t bring herself to eat it. The fact that she was so utterly upset made her appetite go away. Resting her cheek in her hands she started to force herself to eat. If her sister or Jinsoo could see her now he would probably be so excited to see her actually eating food.
Her mind thought back to her few days here in Wonyang, it was a rough couple. It wasn’t until recently that she had stopped crying. She had started thinking about part time job to help pay for things before she made her decision on whether or not she was gonna continue music. Her heart wanted so bad to keep going on with music, however her mind cautioned. The expression she wore must have been an intense one or one of deep sorrow as a person came up to her. Their voice was soft as they spoke. Though she was so deep in thought she had a hard time making out what they originally said. ‘oh, can I help you?’ she asked as they continued to look at her.
“Would you like to join me?’ Her voice was gentle and slightly hopeful. Maybe having someone with her would keep her out of her head. To keep her in the real world not the nightmare that the world that resided in her head. Whenever she was alone she thought of her past, something she wanted a break from and forget. “It seems like you could use someone to talk to as well.”
The click of the door slamming shut behind him was swallowed by the crowded room, barely audible over the dull hum of life that permeated the air. Tired eyes drifted around the room as he made his way towards the counter, scanning for any available seats as the queue slowly trundled forwards. It had become a habit to duck into this particular cafe and order himself a meal, or at the very least a cup of coffee, after his shift. It allowed him a brief moment alone, which was slowly becoming an alien concept. Sure it was exhausting but he didn’t mind for the most part. That was what he needed to do for the sake of the business and everyone else in his life. But here, for a brief few minutes, he didn’t have to put up that facade. In a room full of strangers, nobody really paid attention and in a strange way it he appreciated the reprieve from having to paint on a goofy grin and pretend that the world was made of sunshine and rainbows.
On any other day he would have taken up residence in one of the empty booths or tables alone, preferably by the window. Today though that seemed unlikely. As he reached the server he opted to simply order coffee before turning back to the masses with a gentle sigh. With no empty tables available, he spotted a woman sat opposite an empty space, and so tried to muster up a gentle smile and wandered over.
“I’m so sorry to bother you, but there are so many people in here. Is that seat open?” He said quietly but hopefully, nodding towards the vacant chair. Her expression suggested that she was deep in thought, and that seemed to be confirmed as she asked if she could help before offering up the seat. With a nod he lowered himself down, gently sliding his drink onto the table and sinking back into the chair slightly. “It’s just been kind of a long day. I’ll be fine once I’m done with the coffee” Jaebeom shrugged, tone laced with faux enthusiasm. “Are you... y’know, alright? I don’t want to pry but you seemed kind of zoned out for a minute there.”
So I kind of fell asleep before I could post these / do anything last night, but I’ve finally put a plots page together for Jaebeom just in case anyone was interested. If you see anything that you like feel free to hit me up, and if you don’t hit me up to work something out anyway because I still need stuff for both of my guys! Now I’m going to actually go to the starter tag and draft some replies because I’m here before midnight for once...

“When I was a little kid I really wanted to be a doctor like my mom. I got to about age ten and realised that the sight of blood made me nauseous though, so that was kind of off the cards. Obviously I studied to be a lawyer, and sometimes I do wonder what life would be like if I hadn’t dropped out, but honestly? I’m happy working the stall. Who needs a fancy legal career when you have pastry fish, right?”
Hey all, Alex again with my second character Jaebeom! I originally bought him in because I wanted a more positive character to counterbalance Lucky’s doom and gloom. He’s one of my newer muses so I’m kind of learning as I go with him, Turns out that I can’t write a character without without putting them through all of the angst though, so. I’m working on a WC page for him as well, but for now you can find his full bio here (Another small novel), an abridged version in my app here, or the bare-bones basics under the cut! And again if anyone would like to plot something with him feel free to hit me up or like this post and I’ll head for your IMs!
TW: Bullying, Homophobia, Alzheimer’s
personality.
Literally the dictionary definition of rad but sad.
Puts up a front of being super cheerful and loving life, but internally is suffocating under all of the pressure piled on him.
Unerringly positive to a fault, to the point where it could genuinely be annoying. because if he doesn’t laugh about everything he’d probably end up crying.
Uses goofy smiles and dumb jokes as a shield from serious topics
Because of his experiences during his adolescent he is super insecure about himself, and a lot of his humour is kind of self deprecating to hide that.
Constantly worried about other people’s perception of him
Has a compulsive need to impress people and gain their approval, and will go to pretty much any length to ensure this
Kind of a pushover. it would take no more than fifteen seconds to convince him to agree to anything.
Tired. So tired. Like all the time.
Not out to his family, but pretty open to everyone else
Feels like he’s been dealt kind of a bad hand in life, but rather than complaining about it just keeps his head down and carries on.
history.
Jaebeom was born and raised in London, and only moved away from the city late last year.
Parents split up at a young age. He stayed with his mother, but stayed in contact with his father.
Always kind of a black sheep. Outcast by his peers for literally any reason they could think of.
When he was younger he assumed that he was the comedian, but as he grew up he realised that he was the punchline.
Things took a darker turn when he was sixteen. He was dating a guy on the downlow, but somehow word got out and the harassment escalated. Things got physical on more than one occasion.
Ended up moving to a different school and completing his a-levels there, mostly keeping to himself, before applying to study pre-law at university.
Fell out of contact with his father for a few years.
Got a call from him shortly after start of his final year informing him that he had been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s
After a few weeks of deflated blind panic he dropped out, and after arguing with his mother about it for a few days used the last of his student finance to book a flight to Wonyang.
Now balances caring for his father with running the street food stall the he had been forced to close.
