⡠⺠⺠âˇIt was a typical work night for Jaewon. He had spent most of his day practicing his photography skills at the nearby park before it had gotten to dark and time for his shift at Club Mute. In doing so, he was put into a good mood, but in general he always enjoyed going into work. He found it enjoyable to watch all these different people order all sorts of alcoholic beverages to start their wild nights.
Today was a busy night, he was swamped with making different variants of drinks for his customers.  The list was endless, ranging from a simple whiskey on rocks to something a bit more complex like The Manhattan. It wasnât unusual for him to be making cocktails, but it seemed like tonight there were a lot more orders in for Blue Mondays and Lemon Drops. He always disliked making lemon drops though, his hands would always become sticky from squeezing the lemons. He also just hated doing anything that involved rimming the glasses with sugar, full aware he was going to have to clean the mess that came with it.
He pulled out a rag from beneath the bar counter now that he was free from making cocktails for a moment, letting his coworker take care of orders while he did some minor clean up on his work surface. âSometimes I wonder⌠what even the point of rimming the glasses with sugar anyways. Itâs more aesthetic than anything.â He mumbled to himself, throwing the rag back where he got it from so he could prepare himself for his next customer.

Club MĂźte was the place to go - everyone who was anyone said so. It was the talk of Ayeongâs social circle; out of range of the more uptight parents, of course. Those who had already partied there said it was an experience unlike anything else in town. A bar wasnât really Ayeongâs first choice for a fun evening out. But when Haewon had voice messaged the group, she had insisted through her tears that it was exactly what she needed to get over Chinhwa. So here they were.
They had been at the club for a few hours now, and though Ayeong knew they didnât really need anyone to stay sober, as Haewonâs car was standing by to pick them up whenever they wanted, she felt better about the situation if at least one person kept some of their wits about them. So she sipped daintily on her first drink while the other girls were on their fourth or fifth, draping themselves over some men they had started flirting with.
As the conversations around her turned less coherent and more sexual, Ayeong decided to leave them to it and made her way over to the bar. She sat on one of the stools, twirling her now empty glass idly and watching the bartender work. His mumbling caught her interest, and she leaned forward. âIf the sugar is just for aesthetics, then whatâs the point of rimming a glass with salt? I thought they both were to add another flavor to the drink.â
