how do you deal with all the negativity and hate towards petekey shippers? i try to avoid it as much as i can, but it’s impossible, and it’s really disheartening when we’re just trying to enjoy something and not attacking anyone else or other ships. i really don’t understand why people feel the need to do that to us all the time

Honestly I am just very good at filtering and blocking anything I don’t like seeing or have no interest in engaging with. I really get this though, I was really lucky to create a community with other petekey fans when I started posting my art which helped in feeling very confident about sharing what I draw.

I think focusing on the negative aspects can really damage your relationship with fandom as a whole so my advice is really just harbor a small community and create fan works for YOURSELF first before anything else. (Also yeah, petekeyers are some of the loveliest people I know. everyone is very friendly!)

One more thing is that hate is unavoidable on the internet no matter where you go. It’s better to find that small niche community of friends who are gonna be there for you instead of trying to please everyone or focus on what others think of you or how you enjoy an online space!

it’s not one to one but i started reading this post and my brain immediately went to crickets, convince me

So real. It really was our intention to write an absolutely insane fic… I think crickets is a great example of a fic where everything goes wrong and just when you think it could get worse it actually does!

how does the edm music relate to pete's confusion (at his wedding, in the last scene) ?? its so hard finding good petekey fics and i love this one so so much !!

EDM music is this representation of the reality coming back into Pete’s view. It’s mentioned a couple times in the fic especially in Act 3, in the scene where he purposefully picks a fight with Patrick, there’s a small line that talks about how it goes quiet in his head because it’s a moment where he doesn’t have to be part of the real world.

My coauthor Beth xpatxperience describes it best as when your headphones/earplugs get knocked off your head at a bar or gig and suddenly you’re listening to EDM music and you can’t pause it: it’s Pete’s reality catching up to him.

This is one of the only big things in the fic I wished we had clarified a little more but we found it to be a really lovely metaphor that we ended up keeping because we liked seeing other people’s interpretation of it! There’s a ton of references and metaphors in the fic that we didn’t expand upon because we found their impact to be larger when the reader has to figure it out the same way Mikey and Pete figure it out!

i think “crickets, convince me” gave me a brain disease in the best way possible

I probably had a brain disease while I was writing it honestly this fic was written at the perfect time possible because both my cowriter and I were dealing with so much. Amazing product of love and effort and I’m so glad I can keep it alive and others love it as much as me.
