It's my own fault, I should've known this would be a dangerous place to be before I got the chance to see Brand New Day, and I didn't block the tags. But honestly I didn't think people would just be throwing spoilers out in the first sentence of posts within 24 hours of it dropping. Second time watching the first few episodes of X-Men ‘97 because I got annoyed about Madelyne's story the first time and thought maybe I'd feel differently this time but nah.

“I am scorn and fury.”

Yes you were, because of all your grief over your husband of a year abandoning you and your child for his thought-to-be-dead girlfriend without even talking to you about it. And then your son was kidnapped and you found out you were a clone and all the memories you had before meeting Scott were fake. And then you were taken advantage of by a demon. The ‘97 Madelyne thinks she is Jean from jump. She doesn't live as her own person, forging meaningful relationships with Storm and Rogue. She doesn't meet and marry Scott as her own person –  although in the comics he did think she was probably Jean reincarnated or the Phoenix. She doesn't become part of the Outback X-Men as their guy in the chair, or attend Logan's (doomed) wedding. She doesn't talk to Kitty on the phone nearly every day while she's heavily pregnant and Scott is never around. I really need to just think of the show as its own separate timeline and just be happy she was included, but I think all of those things are integral to her personality and motivations as the Goblin Queen. That being said, the scene where she's making everything horrifying was amazing and I like the conversation she and Jean had at the end of episode 3, and everything else later until she's devastatingly thrown away again.

I just really love Madelyne okay
