Emily chewed the inside of her lower lip as the other girl in front of her seemed to be mostly unscathed. Even though she didn’t seem to be too upset about the spill, Emily still felt guilty. “Oh, yeah, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me thogh, tt’s cold outside, I guess I’m just a little shaky, I guess.” She had pushed it a little harder in workouts recently, perhaps she just needed some more fuel. 

“Again, I’m super sorry about this.” Emily sighed, shaking her head at herself. “Seriously, tell me what you’d like, it’s on me. I feel horrible about this.” 

It was almost cute, the constant apologising. But Cosima never dwelled on unfortunate things and it was just a small hiccup in her day, it wasn’t as if the world had ended. But she also did want coffee and the offer was tempting to say the least. “It’s my job to worry, but maybe you should sit down or something? At least sate my concern by eating something.” she suggested. “And I’m not saying yes because you should feel guilty, I’m saying yes because I’m thirsty and I kinda have this theory you won’t be satisfied until you’ve made amends. Even though there is no need too.” she was babbling, bt that was also down to the fact the woman was fucking adorable and hot. 

“I’ll take a large white mocha with extra shot. And I’ll get us something to eat in return. If you’ve not got anywhere to be that is?”

Audrey had just gotten off of her her late shift and decided to grab a bite to eat at the 24 hour diner downtown. She was really craving a meatball sub. So, that’s exactly what she did. She went and got the sub and started eating it as soon as she exited the diner. She hadn’t eaten in over twenty hours and was starving. She decided instead of going straight home, she’d enjoy the holiday lights strung up around downtown. She had yet to have time to set up her Christmas decorations in her apartment.

She shouldn’t have declined the napkins offered to her when she bought her sandwich though because while she was distracted by the lights hung around her she ran smack into another person walking opposite of her on the sidewalk. “Fuck! I’m so sorry.” She apologized to the person, her arm going around the other person to stabilize them and herself. In doing so she dropped the rest of her sub. “Shit. That was a really good sandwich.” She says sadly. “Fuck!” She exclaimed in seeing her white shirt now riddled with red sauce. “This is going to take forever to get out.”

It clearly was not her day today. Despite the positive vibes she had been giving out, it appeared something was working against her. First it was coffee being spilt down her and now- it was if time slowed when they collided, Cosima looking up from her phone for a split second and barely registering who it was in front of her. She had stared down at the fallen sub, looking sad splatted on the sidewalk before realising that her coffee stained sweater now had added marinara sauce on it, although not as bad as the woman beside her. 

The woman with her arm still around her. 

“That is disheartening.” she commented, knowing it was sad when people lost good food. Even if it were meat. “Something is working against me today, coffee and now subs, keep me away from all sustenance forms.” she said with a roll of her eyes.

Looking at her shirt she grimaced a little. “Get baking soda on that, mix in with some Vanish, soak in warm water and then run on a high cycle. Should get it out.” she commented, stepping away from her and wiping down her own sweater with the tissue she had previously stuck up her sleeve.

Emily was bundled up in a Stanford Swim hoodie and sweats as she made her way back up to the pier after spending some time down at the beach. Sure, it wasn’t as cold as some other places, but being a native Californian, it was easy to get cold. She made her way up to the pier and found herself at the coffee stand. “I just need a hot Americano.” She told the barista. The barista handed the coffee over to her, but Emily lost her footing. The hot coffee landed up on the person who was behind her. “Shit. I’m so sorry.” Emily said frantically. She turned back to the stand and grabbed as many napkins as she could and handed them to the individual she’d spilled her hot coffee all over. “Are you okay? I’ll buy you your drink and then some. I’m so, so sorry.”

The annoyance was momentary, she was more surprised than anything she was rather glad she’d decided to wear a thick jumper, saving her skin from the scalding hot coffee which poured all down her. It wasn’t the worst thing to happen and she let out a huff of bemusement. “Listen, it’s chill hun. No sweat- thank you.” she took the offered napkins and began to wipe down what she could of the sweater. At least her lab jacket had escaped most of it, just a few brown splotches on the stark white collar. 

“More importantly, are you okay?” she couldn’t help, as a medical professional, when someone acted a little unnaturally. There was clumsiness, then there was something affecting balance and she pushed the glasses up on her nose further as she surveyed the girl. She discarded the napkins in the trash.

It was always loud in Cosima’s house. She was the second born of female quadruplets. Sarah, Cosima, Helena & Alisson. With identical girls, she found it hard to be her own person when there were three literal clones of her around at the same time. There was always fights for attention, countless mistakes of names, general chaos and more. Yet, the family was tight knit. Their parents loved them and it certainly made them known in the neighbourhood. Despite being in a large family, Cosima never really went without. She had a comfortable life. 

Of course, that changed when she was 12 and a cough started plaguing her. After a couple of months the cough had continued and with it her breathing also became affected. Tests were run, but nothing conclusive found. Eventually they settled on an autoimmune disease of unknown origin which was progressively getting worse and no doubt would continue as she got older. The doctors gave her ten years at best, if there was no cure or solution found. 

Cosima’s life was bubbled after that. She couldn’t do the same thing as her sisters and instead she ended up retreating into her world of books, science and education. The thought of death didn’t deter her and when she eventually graduated high school and decided on her career, she knew there was only one thing she wanted to do. She wanted to find a cure. She began her studying for Pathology in college and before she knew it she had graduated that and was still fighting to continue. 

Another five years later, she moved to Andromeda to start her residency in Pathology. And yet she was still there, with no signs of stopping or progression of her disease. She found coping mechanisms, tanks of O2 when her chest got really bad, medication to keep a steady control of her hormones and banana bags full of vitamins and nutrients. But she also discovered medical marijuana as a good way of coping with the pain. Forever an advocate, she swears it’s helped prolong her and stop her from getting worse. 

Being in Andromeda, she uses her residency status to run her own tests and find out more about what is plaguing her. But she’s also been known to ‘push’ through off the books tests for friends at times. Forever loyal to those she trusts, there isn’t anything Cosima wouldn’t do to help. 

Cosima is a proud gay, but she doesn’t let it define her. In her own words after all “my sexuality isn’t the most interesting thing about me” but she advocates for all LGBTQ+ in Andromeda and regularly shows her support. 

Cosima is still close with her family and sometimes her sisters come for a visit, which causes havoc amongst the townfolk who know her. But being one for practical jokes at times, she and her sisters have swapped identities a fair few times. For their own amusement. 

Due to her health issues, Cosima likes to live life to the fullest and is rarely a ‘No’ person. She’s also humble, down-to-earth and incredibly charming. It’s hard not to be dazzled when people meet her.
