"Did you know that beauty marks are spots that your lover kissed in a previous life?"
Xavier pauses, finger sliding between the pages of his book to mark his place before he glances up at you.
You're wrapped up in his favorite fluffy blanket, cuddled close to him on the couch. Your eyes are thoughtful, fixed to a beauty mark in the center of your right hand.
"Really?" Xavier asks softly, far away, and takes your hand in his. He presses his thumb gently into the beauty mark, rubbing circles into it.
He thinks of your old spot at the clock tower, of patching up each other's training injuries underneath the Holy Sword of the Goddess. Tending to the blisters on your fingers, tapping his thumb on the back of your hand before lifting it to his lips for a fond, chaste kiss.
He remembers the moments he spent idling with you before the inevitable summons of his father for another stuffy formal event. How he hated those clothes, but preened just a bit at how your gaze lingered whenever he wore them. Letting his kiss on your hand last for a moment longer than necessary, just to see you fluster.
He wakes from dreams sometimes, of a life he never lived, or hasn't yet. You're both tired and weary, in a world long gone and unforgiving, but you're together. He presses a kiss to your hand, thumb stroking across the satin glove. He doesn't let you go. And you choose to stay.
Xavier lifts your hand up to his lips once more. He lets his breath fan across your skin, peering up at you through his lashes to see your own flutter, before he kisses your beauty mark. Soft, reverent.
What a reassuring thought, that he had left a part of himself with you. His love embedded into your skin.
He tugs you closer then, and you collide into him. He holds you tight, pressing kisses up your neck, across your jaw and all over your face.
"What are you doing?" You giggle when he kisses your eyelashes, smacking him playfully, and he snuggles closer.
"Mm." Xavier buries his face into your neck, smiling when you wrap your arms around him. "Making sure you have more marks of me in the next one."
