Evan had begun going through the motions of her morning routine. Though she carried her laptop with her, she made sure she was muted on her end so as to not disturb the sleeping faces on her screen. She had been in the middle of putting in her hearing aids, after having taken care of hygiene and such, when Bullet alerted her to activity on her screen. Walking over, she smiled and gave a little wave at the still slightly confused blonde looking back her. So as not to wake the younger Newton, she sent a message in the chat instead of speaking on the skype call: Morning sleepyhead!

Julia felt extremely out of place the moment she neared the table. Everyone around were already friends and they all seem to have known each since forever by the looks of it. Despite being Embry’s mother, she didn’t have a relationship with the girl. Hoping to drive her worries away, she helped Levi into his chair, whispering that he had to wait until everyone’s at the table - she honestly didn’t know what the kid wanted to grab when the food wasn’t even there yet. 

She smiled and introduced herself to the group, wondering if they knew anything about her. Meeting everyone was definitely more nervewrecking now that the moment had come. The blonde gave polite smiles to everyone even though everyone seemed rather friendly. 

“There’s nothing to thank me for, honey. I’m as happy to have them all here, together, and safe, as I’m sure you are,” Leo replied with a smile before reaching over and wrapping an arm around the girl’s shoulders. She pulled her in for a brief kiss to the top of her head. As she let girl ease back into her chair proper, her eyes lingered on the older blonde on the other side of Embry, and how she had taken the initiative in getting to meet her daughter’s friends. Perhaps Julia was willing to make more than the basic effort after all…

Her thoughts were interrupted as some of the previously empty platters and bowls seemed to just fill up with rolls, and different kinds of appetizers and entry dishes. “Well, looks like the librarian has decided to help Jon by turning this into a proper Hogwarts feast,” she snarked.

Embry gave a small smile as she was pulled in for the hug. She welcomed the affectionate actions from her foster sister but that didn’t mean she wasn’t still shy about it. She dipped her head down momentarily, pretending to fix the hem of her shirt because she felt her cheeks burn slightly. Leo wasn’t wrong; she was sitting here with all her friends, and family. It warmed her heart that there were finally people she could considered as family and it was all thanks to Leo. 

“That’s not.. necessarily a bad thing..” She chuckled as she looked around the table to see what there was. “This is a lot of food though.” Her eyes widened by the amount, but then they had a few wolves at the table so Embry wasn’t as surprised as she should be. 

Having made it to the kitchen only to find Jon in the midst of trying see if he could actually balance more than five trays of food, Evan had just rolled her eyes and had him set things back down. The witch-demon had asked that he set the dishes out in order that he would prefer they be set out for the folks to eat, and with a little word play, Evan had managed to get the first round of food out to the awaiting masses.

Making her way back into the ballroom with Jon on her heels, she stopped and stated, “Alright, I’ve managed to save dinner. No need to thank me...oh and I found out that Jon is good for more than just stoic stares.”

She nodded. “Yeps, I do,” Cassidy said with a shake of her head. “But I’m so used to it that taking people out when they’re drunk or had to much is a second hand job.’ When she mentioned her co-workers, she sighed. “Worse. Sometimes they call me to deal with the guys that don’t understand, and let’s just say half of the guys just run the moment they see me.”

“I would say that Damien should’ve thought this trough a bit more, but I’m almost certain that the chaos is almost exactly what he was going for,” Evan noted. Knowing that she was here to take advantage of just such chaos made her feel like a pariah, but what other choice did she really have? Her father’s ‘gift that kept on giving’ made it to where it was this or die, because she was not about to drain anyone. Turning back to the bartender she said, “I’m feeling adventurous, what drink would you recommend?”

“Does he need help with the food?” She was surprised that Jon was dealing with the food. “I honestly thought it’d be your staff dealing with that.” Her brow perked ever so subtly because she had a feeling that this wasn’t the question they wanted to ask by the impression she was getting from Embry who had not given them any eye contact since they came over. 

The last thing she wanted to do was to call her daughter out like that. “Maybe we should all go sit down if they’re waiting to serve. Is anyone hungry yet?” Levi perked up at the sound of food, “Well, this little guy just got excited about dinner.” She laughed, ruffling his hair.

The only thing that kept Leo from calling bullshit, or reaching out to smack the back of Evan’s head, was the fact that she still had Levi in her arms. Instead she opted to level Even with a knowing look, and answer the questions that were actually voiced. “It is, normally, the staff that handles all the cooking, but Jon always opts to take over on holidays so that as much of the staff as possible can have the day off. He used to do it back in LA too,” she said.

Taking a moment to give the other two one last wary look, she relented and nodded in agreement -not like she could really object when Levi was clearly all for the plan. “All right, let’s go have a seat. I’m sure Jon’s probably almost done anyway. Man’s been in the kitchen since noon,” she voiced, as she walked towards the table, swinging Levi up and down eliciting more giggles.

Embry was thankful that neither adults pressed on knowing what the two of them were just talking about. At the sounds of dinner, the young wolf nodded and picked up Oberion before following everyone to the table. She had a feeling that Leo didn’t quite believe Evan when she diverted the question to something else but at the moment - she didn’t care because a part of her wasn’t ready to hear that her biological mother hooked up with both Avraham siblings. 

As she got to her seat, she sat the puppy on her lap as she looked around. This was probably the biggest gathering she was genuinely invited to and with that thought, a small smile crawled to her face. She couldn’t help but turn to Leo, “Thanks for organizing this for everyone..”

As they made their way to the table, Evan noted that the tension between the older women was far less palpable than it had been shortly before they had approached, but it was still very much present. As such, she went ahead and let the family of ladies -and Levi- sit alongside each other, while she herself took a seat on the other side of the table instead. Some distance would help this be less...awkward, as it were.

Or so she thought. Before she’d even fully sat down, she opted to just excuse herself as she said, “I’m going to go give The Transporter a hand with getting everything out.”

She chuckled softly to herself as she looked around for said bouncer Benjamin, but he was no where be found. “Yeah, when the darn bouncer would show up and throw him out, or if I can find him.” Cassidy shook her head as she gave up on looking for the bouncer as she turned back to Evan. “Some nights when they think that I’m all so innocent and helpless, they try to take advantage of me, but when I throw them out on their asses, then they wonder how I get so strong to do it.”

Evan just raised an eyebrow at the information she was given. “It sounds like you manage to find yourself in quite the number of unwanted situations for someone whose job gives them the small protection of an entire construct to act as barrier between them and the patrons,” she noted, slapping the counter both for emphasis and to signal she’d like a refill. “I can only imagine what the hell is going on your co-workers in the ‘entertainment sector.’”

Julia’s eyes softened when Leo talked about her processing skills. There had been a time when she was there to go through it all with Leo but it was clear that the hotelier didn’t need the wolf to help out this time - or didn’t want Julia to help. It wasn’t her proudest moments to have hooked up with Liam while she was still under their care, but she was desperate at the time - not that it did any good. A part of her didn’t regret it because it gave her - them - Embry, but other than that, she wished it wasn’t with the brother of the Avraham siblings. 

“I’m still here if you want to.. process it together.” She offered, not really expecting Leo to accept it but at least she would know Julia was still here for her. Her stare steeled when she learned that Leo was still stuck with people who she deemed unworthy of the half-demon. “Well, you better start getting used to it. I’m not saying that I’m going to keep wronging you in order to fix it right after, but you know, I will do my best to not repeat my mistakes. 

The offer made a lump form in her throat that briefly made it hard to breathe. The last time Julia had offered to help her process something, it was something Leo hadn’t really wanted to process at all, and to think back now and see that it was the very moment that Embry likely came into her life… It was a lot. But now wasn’t the time, so she cleared her throat and offered the blonde a small smile in return. “I’ll think about it,” she said, with a noncommittal shrug.

She couldn’t help the laugh that fell from her lips at Julia’s wording, clearly already knowing that Leo was likely to be a smartass otherwise. “I think there’s gong to be quite a bit that we’re all going to have to get used, but we can take it a step a time.” Glancing over at the girls, a confused look crossed her face as she Evan doing some weird gesturing. “Yeah, we’re heading over there now,” she said and with little preamble walked up to scoop up Levi, who had Obie in his hands already, and led the way over to Embry. “Is there something we can help with?”

Her eyes widened when Leo and Julia actually walked over when Evan did the weird gestures at them. “Uh.” She faltered because she didn’t expect the two adults to come over at all. Instead of answering, her hand went straight to the dog in her brother’s arms. “Hey Obie…” She scratched his ears, which earned her a happy yelp. 

Embry refused to look up at Leo as she busied herself by interacting with Levi who happily narrated what he was doing with Obie this entire time. She was curious about Leo and Julia but as she said to Evan, she would never ask herself. It wasn’t her business and she felt that she really shouldn’t pry. 

At the look on Embry’s face, she suddenly stood up straight and turned around just in time to catch the subject of their debate was walking towards them. “I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to get an opportunity to sate your curiosity tonight, but when life gives you lemons,” she said out of earshot before the two women fully approached them.

By the time Leo gave her the golden opportunity to ask away, it looked for all intents and purposes that Evan was very much about to ask after the relationship of the two women. However, noting how much Embry had drawn into herself at the mere thought of it, she thought otherwise and simply asked, “I was just curious if we knew how Jon was faring, and Embry helpfully suggested I ask you, but I was pointing out that you looked busy...you know, conversing and whatnot.”

She smirked to herself as she went to fix someone else’s drink, taking the order and about to fix it when she heard a thump. “What the-’ Cassidy turned around and saw the burly man passed out on the bar and sighed. “For the love of all things that this holy…” she muttered, shaking her head as she grabbed Evan’s empty glass and made her another one. “Oh, him? Yeah he did-but he’s always get so drunk that I have to put him out myself.”

“Now there’s a phrase you don’t hear often in this town,” she remarked at the other’s muttered words. Evan couldn’t think of the last time anything remotely religious was said around her...granted, her mother had always been the one to keep up with all that in their home. “Thanks,” she said taking the fresh drink. Evan was about to knock it back, but the girl’s words made her set it back down and furrow her brow slightly confused. “Yourself? You guys have a bouncer though...”

Embry tried to stifle her laugh with her hand as she looked over at Evan, “I’m sorry, but the more you try to explain, the sketchier this sounds. Should I be actually worried? Like I said, Leo seems to be, but I don’t know if she’s being overprotective or not.” She knew she was safe with the other, but everyone else seemed to think otherwise so there had to be something she was missing. 

“I don’t know if I want to ask them anything if it’s true. I thought they were just weird because I’m literally…. Leo’s.. niece.” She still felt weird about the newfound relationship she had - luckily she just opted to calling Leo by her name to avoid labels. “How does one go from Leo to Liam?” She didn’t mean that as an insult but she wasn’t blind. Leo was very attractive, and Liam.. didn’t have much emotions from the short conversations she had with the man. 

“It’s not really as sketchy as I made is sound,” she said with a small laugh of her own. Briefly thinking about what it would involve for to even come close to harming Embry in the manner she was sure Leo had in mind, and just how vast the probability that they’d ever find themselves in that situation was, made Evan shake her head as said, “No, I genuinely do not believe there is any reason for you to worry.”

“Well you’re welcome not to ask them anything, if confirmation is received and the opportunity arises, I will most certainly be asking Julia ‘what the fuck’, cause,” she gestured in Leo’s direction, practically recreating the Will Smith meme.

She nodded as she fixed the drink, smiling to herself at the rapport skill comment. It was a habit for her to tell someone something without them even asking her. “I was always good at that-and also resisting the urge to knock the hell out of people.” Cassidy placed the now fixed drink in front of her, and went back to putting the two bottles of liquor on the shelf. 

“Those do tend to be the two most desirable skills when working at the town’s equivalent of a watering-hole for raging alcoholics and the such,” Evan noted as she watched the woman pour the drink neatly. Take the drink in one go, Evan felt the tell-tale sensation of someone indulging themselves. A glance up from her empty glass and was easy to see that someone was enjoying the sight of the bartender facing away from the bar far more than they should. Without much thought, she reached over and placed a hand over that of the burly mans, her eyes shown brighter, and then the man’s head was hitting the bar hard as he just seemed to pass out on the spot. Retrieving her hand, the half-demon glanced back over and said, “Looks like someone had one too many. Can I get another of the same please?” Having to feed off the scourge of the earth made it to where she felt the need to rinse with alcohol afterwards.

“Okay..?” She sounded confused but Embry wouldn’t push the topic if Evan didn’t want to tell her about it now. After all, her friend had been patient with her throughout all the events that happened to her when Embry rolled into town. The least she could do was provide the same courtesy. 

She frowned as she observed the two older women more. “Do you think they know each other? Like.. before my situation….” It didn’t surprise her that Leo wouldn’t be pleased to see Embry’s biomom because they had plenty of conversations about how it was her loss more so than Embry’s. “Oh my god. If there was a chance they met each other before… Did Leo hit on her? You think they hooked up before?” Her face scrunched at the thought. 

“I promise I’m not trying to keep anything from you,” Evan reassured at the tone of trepidation that came with Embry’s response. “You know for a fact that you can ask any and all types of questions you like and I will always do my best to give you the best answer even if a bit of research is required, but, this one should be answered not around kids...I just made it sound weird...I’m going to stop now.”

Evan’s brow furrowed in confusion as she glanced over at Embry. “Well, I mean, given what you’ve told me about who your sperm-donor is, I think it’s very likely that Leo would know someone that lived in their house,” she remarked. Blue eyes widened slightly as she raised an eyebrow looking over at the pair at Embry’s last few questions. There was definitely something there between the women, and Evan wasn’t just going off her sense of sight for that one... “I think those are probably great questions for them, considering they’d be the only ones to know for certain...though if it turns out to be true, what a downgrade to go from Leo to Liam.”

“I know Leo’s pretty protective of me but why is she so …..” She trailed off as she tried to find the correct word, “Paranoid that you’d do something to me. You haven’t like.. harmed me in any way or form, and not that I think you would.” She chuckled as she turned to see the duo again. “Oh!” Her eyes trailed further and saw that Leo and her mother were standing next to each other. “They seem to really get along, don’t they?”

Evan pulled a face that clearly showed she’d resigned herself to fact Leo might have a valid reason. “I don’t know the exact reason, but I’m pretty sure I have a strong inkling as to what it might be,” she said, before turning back to Embry. “But, now’s not really the time or place for that conversation. So raincheck?”

Turning back to see the older women in question, she couldn’t help the smirk on her face at the sight. “Well, they’re certainly getting along far better than they were back at Julia’s place...”

“Evan!” She chuckled when the other was messing around with Amaryllis. She could understand if the other felt somewhat out of place and Embry didn’t want to make her feel more uncomfortable as she already were. “She’s kidding.” At least she hoped she was. Embry didn’t recall being told that her foster parents thinking that she bit too hard or was too strong as a baby. 

“Fine, fine, I’m kidding,” she conceded, before noting the interaction between the other two, and turning back to Embry. “Come on you, we should probably go find your Leo and your brothers mother before the former thinks I ‘defiled your innocence’ or whatever the fu-” she stopped mid-sentence as she turned to look behind them. “Look, Levi’s already found Obie again.”

“Yeah, I work here now,” Cassidy told the other as soon as she came from the back of the Canopy Club, two bottles of liqueur in her hand. “I, uh, quit the Bridgeport Bar. So, you want a drink, or just to talk, or what? Because I got drink orders to fill, ya know?”

“Yeah, that’s great for you,” Evan replied in a flat tone, her brow furrowing in confusion over why the woman would feel that was relevant information. Did she think Evan would care if she had been in the back without permission or something? Her confusion only grew at the additional information about the other town’s bar and the string of questions. “Well, can’t say the Bridgeport will be missing anyone with great rapport skills,” she remarked. “Double-shot of Patron, save the lime.”

Embry’s eyes widened when she realized that she was back in the ballroom again without a warning. “Oh my god.” She looked over at Evan, “You did that on purpose.” She chuckled, shaking her head at Evan’s antics. “I don’t know if I can save you from her wrath.” Her attention then got pulled away from the baby in Sean’s hand. “You think babies have some sort of special ability to read a person? “They’re so tiny compared to you, Sean.” 

Dropping Obie onto the ground, she looped Evan’s arm to get a closer look at the niece. “And there’s two of them, your sister’s pretty amazing to be taking care of them. One baby’s chaotic, double that.. it’s insane.”

The redhead turned to face his fellow pack member with a grin. “Pretty sure that barring Brax and maybe Leo, everyone here is ‘tiny’ compared to me,” he teased, now bouncing his niece around. As the baby let out a string of giggles, he added, “I think babies are capable of seeing a person who they truly are because they don’t have any of the biases that we all eventually develop. Besides, these little ones are pups. They can smell the good.”

He spared a glance over at his older sister, smiling at the sight of her with Brax. “She managed me and Tomi fine enough, something tells me these two are probably a walk in the park.”

“I don’t think ‘smelling the good’ is a thing.” She tried to tug her finger away but the baby didn’t relent. “Uh.” Amaryllis tried to tug it again but again, Tilly didn’t want to let go. “Is it a wolf thing that they have a strong grip?” She frowned as she gave up because she wasn’t going to get her hand back anytime soon. 

Looking over as well, she observed the blonde talking with the annoyingly loud man known as Brax. “So you’re saying that you and Tomi were far worse than these kids?”

“Oh it’s totally a thing,” Evan said, with the certainty of someone who had done years of research on the matter - even though she, of course, had not. The half-demon opted for not worrying too much about Leo, and spending what might be her last few moments indulging in one of her favorite hobbies: messing with people. “Yeah, actually. Just make sure she doesn’t get it to her mouth though, or it’s gone. Baby wolf chompers are relentless.” If Leo didn’t kill her, Embry probably would.

She smiled when she spotted her daughter and the current concern that Leo was facing when it came down to Embry. Julia chuckled before having to let go of Leo’s hand to pick up her son who was charging towards her. “Hey buddy. Did you have fun with Embry and Evan here?” The boy nodded and started talking excitedly about Oberion. “Thanks for looking after him, you guys.” It warmed her heart that her two children are getting along; she honestly couldn’t ask for more than that right now. “Oh, is that Obie?” She asked, noticing the little pup by Embry’s feet. 

Leo could’ve easily sent a fireball to wipe the smug look of the younger half-demon’s face, especially with speed at which she let go of Julia’s hand. Luckily, the blonde likely didn’t notice anything amiss as she herself let go to reach for the youngest blonde in the room, and seeing the little boy was enough of a reminder for Leo to not cause bodily harm to others -even if they would technically be fine after a few hours. “Well, everyone else is currently in the ballroom, either busy with their own reunions or busy trying to find what to do while others have reunions…” she trailed off realizing she was kind of in the latter camp herself right now. “Anyway, I’ll leave it Emmy what she’d like to do next.”

Embry could only look over at the two adults with confusion all over her face when Evan made the comment. If she thought there was anything weird going on between Leo and Julia, she didn’t show it. The younger pup just thought they weren’t really getting along because of her. One was her biological mother who abandoned her, the other was her foster sister who thought she deserved the world. “Oh, yeah.. Maybe we should head down. They’re probably waiting for dinner to start.” She smiled as she bent down to pick up Obie. “Can I bring him?”

Evan had a mischievous glint in her eye, as she subtly reached her hand down and found Embry’s just behind her. Making sure the blonde had a good hold on Obie, she smiled and said, “Hey Levi! Wanna see a neat magic trick?” When the boy nodded enthusiastically, she just said, “Abracadabra.” And next thing she and Embry were standing in the ballroom again. Turning to look at her, she said, “Figure if Leo’s ready to hang me by my thumbs, I might as well have some fun.”

“Where’s Embry?” Not that she wasn’t thrilled to meet her friends but Julia had expected to see Embry first. The scene of the siblings hugging was heartwarming, familial bonding like that was practically her weakness as the girl who grew up not knowing what that was like. 

Leo had been momentarily distracted by the reunion, but upon hearing Julia’s question, her senses were on full alert and she was immediately struck by two things: there was now a new half-demon among the group, and the most pressing- “Evan’s in my office,” she stated sternly, already taking Julia’s hand to shimmer them there. If that little runt was going to try anything, it was not going to be in her own office. “Emmy!” she called out as reached the door and caught sight of the four at Obie’s desk. Letting out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding, she just said, “Julia’s here to see you.”

“Yeah, she does.” She laughed, “She went to the woods with you? I didn’t know you guys knew each other.” From the times she met both, Embry didn’t recall ever seeing them together in the same room. “Why were you guys in the forest in the middle of winter?” If it was a full moon, that would be her reason, but neither of the women were wolves. Turning her attention back at Levi, Embry couldn’t help the smile she held when it came to her little brother. They hadn’t met for very long and she was already so protective over the little fella. “Why would she think that?” 

She was so focused on Obie and Levi getting along that she didn’t even notice the extra presence in the room until her name was called out. Jolting from her spot, Embry looked over her shoulder and saw Leo there. “Mommyy!!!” Levi’s voice echoed as tiny thunderous steps made its way to the blonde who stood behind the half demon. “Hello.” She smiled politely. As friendly as Julia was, Embry didn’t know how she was supposed to act around her mother. She was abandoned once before and even though she now had Leo, it would still hurt if Julia abandoned her again. 

“Long story,” she replied, figuring if she was going to tell Embry about the legend that had led them out there, it may as well be done proper. At the question, she couldn’t help but scoff and chuckle before she attempted to explain, “Because, Leo seems to think-” However, she was cut off precisely by the older half-demon herself, almost as if aiming to prove her point. Evan threw her a look that practically screamed ‘Are you serious?’ but opted to remain quiet for the sake of the others.

She felt Embry move to stand behind her, and offered a greeting of her own, “Evening ladies...it’s good to see you two getting along much better than the last time we were all in the same room.” She let her eyes slide down and pointedly look at the joined hands between the brunette and the older blonde, a small smirk on her face at having turned the tables on Leo.
