you know magical pregnancy plots do suck and i do think the hope plot in xena was kind of bad but i think in the grand scheme of television it balances out to a neutral to positive act because it did lead to the invention of the musical episode and even tho nobody has made a musical episode better than the bitter suite i still think its added a lot to tv culture and experimentation if nothing else and then to like balance out the scales they did do the worlds most ethical magical pregnancy plot when xena got pregnant so lucy lawless didnt have to pretend not to be pregnant and still be on xena and just said xena got impregnated by her homoerotic lesbian mortal enemy mirror self you know like maybe if more magical pregnancies were about job security for women and lesbian soul sex things would be a lot better in the world have we thought about that

gabrielle is such important annoying girl representation like she is capable of being so annoying it puts her in mortal danger and then turning that around and saving herself thru being even more annoying and every woman she meets desperately wants her anyways like nobody has done it like her <3

things I love about the xena pilot, which I watched on my lunch break today:

- “let me throw some logic at you”

- the guy in the crowd who keeps yelling “get him xena!!!” same buddy

- gabs: “I’m gonna join xena!” lila: *bursts into incredulous laughter*

- “gabrielle, *I* can beat you up” “yeah but…. you’re strong for your age” gabby pls

- gabrielle is established as incredibly capable right off the bat. despite her small town upbringing and her lack of fighting skills, she at no point needs to be rescued and in fact saves xena once

- she’s also pretty dang gay right off the bat. “I could probably get up there behind you” smooth gabs smooth

- when xena’s talking to her brother about being alone and gabrielle comes in and says “you’re not alone.” girl u literally just met this woman and you’re ready to pledge your life to her. please see previous point re: GAY.

- but also like the fact that xena and gabrielle are stronger together is like the major overarching theme of the show and it’s established so *early* and I die

- xena is immediately just so fond of this smol blonde girl like UGH SAME GIRL

might revive my interest in my gabrielle/callisto body swap fic where callisto remains trapped in xenas body and somehow gabby ensnares her into a quest to get xena out of tartarus and their bodies swapped back that being in xenas body is literally killing callisto and they are going on a trip to the underworld together and callisto keeps taunting gabby about her feelings for xena in a crazy and jealous manner and gabby is torn because callisto literally looks just like xena right now but isnt and is caught between her recently blossomed hatred for callisto and her terminal i can fix her disease about evil women but callisto of course smells blood in the water and can pick at every one of gabbys very obvious sore spots about literally all of this and it is kind of flirty as well

#i would absolutely read #they’re camping and gabby falls into the usual cuddle position…… would callisto point it out or just hug…#do we ever see callisto get a hug?

you know in a world of body swaps being facilitated by some particular object i really really love how weird conceptual the xena callisto body swap was like callisto infiltrating xenas dreams and body because of xenas deep guilt and like its fascinating the way that callisto essentially absolves herself of all blame putting it all on xena when they swap positions in some ways that is a comforting thing like xena wants to escape her guilt so she becomes callisto someone who feels no guilt despite their similar actions and how callisto has spent so much time trying to be xena and she gets to do it put on her flesh as a suit and she finally herself becomes susceptible to guilt while speaking with xenas voice its fascinating the like porosity between them

Commen misconcaption. Aphrodite and Ares are not siblings. Did y’all mean Athena? Athena and Ares are not only siblings, but extremely competitive. The trojan war was literally a war between Athena and Ares.

also. Aphrodite and Ares were lovers? Don’t know where this sibling thing came from. Aphrodite is the daughter of Kronos. Arès is son of Zeus.

It depends on which source you look at. Hesoid names her as the daughter of Uranus, rising from the sea foam. (This is the version most popular with later artists.) Homer, the Homeric Hymns (author unknown), and Euripedes name her as a daughter of Zeus and Dione, however. Including in the Iliad.

🤷‍♀️ That’s kind of the thing with Greek myth- it’s not a cohesive Canon. Different writers at different time periods in different parts of Greece recorded different oral traditions.

And yes, they were also lovers. *gestures to Zues and Hera.*

I've always felt that Ares really liked Gabrielle, but he never wanted her to know it she was technically "competition" in regards to Xena. I mean, not really since Gabrielle is literally Xena's soulmate and all. But that's definitely how Ares views it: He wants Xena, Gabrielle wants Xena and one only of them gets to win. Spoiler: It's Gabrielle.

So anyway, Ares likes Gabrielle a lot and that fact annoys the crap out of him since it would be so much easier if he just hated her. But he doesn't and that's why a part of him respects their (Xena and Gabrielle's) relationship. Like laying Gabrielle to rest next to Xena or healing Gabrielle in the first place.

whatever gabrielle and ares had going on in season 3-6 always enamored me. (ESPECIALLYYYY during the debt arc and in Forget Me Not the fact that her mind palace conjured him up and never xena -ik its a xenalite for a reason but ykwim!!)

in my mind-i dont ship them- theyd be a "were both imagining the other as Xena" or something. theyd only get close with eachother as some psychosexual attraction to xena. and i know gab would probably always be down for those soft beds and blankets that ares can summon (once in the reckoning)
