She used to think that she was a GODDESS ( and yet, she lived like a slave ). That she was unique, and that her chance would come. That she would be able to show them all what she could do. And that she would win their respect. That it would allow her to life with DIGNITY. But the chance that appeared in front of her was nothing than a testament written on the sand. Nothing but a false god.
Now she knows she’s not alone. Now she knows that she’s a part of something. Something good. Something HOPEFUL. Now and forever, she is a member of the X-Men.
She blinks and considers that there’s no need to cry more. So the smile that appears behind her tears almost like seeing the sound behind dark clouds: a chance of a better and brighter day.
The look in her eyes professes admiration and kindness. She knows this is the right path. He never claimed to be the one who should lead them all. But Ororo wants to learn from him. She wants to be there for others, like he was there for her. She wants to help him to build this better and way more compassionate society. She wants to see the world united, not destroyed.
‘ I don’t mind having to fight to protect us. To protect this. To protect the school. ’ she knows that there’s a bit difference between fighting to harm and fighting to protect. And she will watch the sky, to make sure that no enemy will try to disturb their peace. She can be a GUARDIAN. She can keep this legacy alive as long as her body is.
‘ If mutants truly represent the hope of the future, then we must prove ourselves worthy of it. ’ she whispers, low and yet with conviction. ‘ We’ll show them that this world is capable of better. Much better. ’
pride cannot help but shine from his eyes as he watches her, he is forever amazed at the knowledge and wisdom of the children that walk through these doors. if the fate of mutants and mankind alike rests on their shoulders then he has no doubt that through their efforts the world will be in safer hands than ever before. driven less by bigotry and prejudice they speak of hope and of peace.
‘ with your guidance i have no doubt that mutants and humans alike will benefit from your wisdom ororo. already you are worthy of that hope in the future. ‘ there is a slight hoarseness to his voice, for most of his life he has spent his days trying to find a way to protect mutants without causing further problems with the rest of humanity. he has seen too many wars and seen too many die on both sides.
to see the next generation understand how precious peace was --- was enough to cause a surge of emotion within him. ororo was a remarkable woman, and she would be an equally remarkable leader. she may have been a slave once, but she had set herself free – and with her strength and her wisdom she would set countless others free as well.
‘ i hope that i will be alive to see the day when the rest of the world realizes just how remarkable you are. and i hope you know that your parents will always be proud of you – just as i am. ‘
once he had feared to know that one day he would die and all this could be lost, he didn’t fear for his legacy or for his name, he feared for the mutants he loved. that children would be left without a haven to stay in, a place to learn what they could do without suffering.
