Hi! My name is Nikki; at time of writing I am a 28 year old queer, neurodivergent transfem, and I'm an independent multimedia digital artist, graphic designer, and musician. My pronouns are she/they. My informal nouns include "hopeless romantic", "mom friend", "basket case", "social hermit", "emo trash", and "autism creature".
I started calling myself emo around 2015 when I'd been introduced to the band Dear Whoever by an ex, and ever since I have not been able to get them out of my head. They were my gateway to the larger emo music scene; the uncompromisingly raw and visceral angst that I've found in it is something that deeply resonated with me as an emotionally compromised teenager, and still does over a decade later. In that span of time, I've come to view emo and alternative expression as inherently tied to queer identity. This is something I feel strongly enough about that I still choose to call myself emo beyond my teenage years, and I am opposed to the type of commercialization which seemingly has the subculture in such a chokehold at the moment. Anyone that knows me personally knows that I go particularly hard for Silverstein, having met those guys four times in-person. But I also like Armor For Sleep, Finch, AFI, My Chemical Romance, Avion Roe, Mineral, Stone Sour, Earshot, 100 gecs, and The Megas.
Around 2022, I started songwriting independently under the project name Exit Wound, using primarily MIDI instruments, a working knowledge of guitar, and an understanding of music theory I essentially acquired through osmosis. Compositionally and instrumentally, these songs take a lot of cues from screamo pop with some noise rock elements. My challenge with Exit Wound is trying to make virtual instruments sound as raw as possible, so I am actively taking notes from other more DIY-centric genres like hyperpop and black metal to distinguish my sound further. If you like 2000's post-hardcore with passionate, cathartic vocals and decidedly lower production value to boot, go check out my shit! To date, I have two singles and several demos online, with a third single on the way. I am hoping to eventually put out an EP and play some shows (once the stars fucking align). It has been my stated goal to someday write the "Ultimate Transgender Punk Rock Anthem to Blow Everyone's Dicks Clean Off".
Motor racing and Mega Man are two of my biggest hobbies and special interests, and they both have lent themselves to my capabilities with graphic design and game development. I am heavily involved in the modding scene for the abandonware racing sim NASCAR Racing 2003 Season; I've built two original tracks for that game, designed dozens of paint schemes, and I intermittently host my own online/offline hybrid league called the Apex Racing Sportsman Series, or ARSS. I've also contributed levels and graphics to the Mega Man fangame series Make a Good Mega Man Level. Say hi if you know me from either one of those communities!
Reserving my DMs for mutuals at the moment. If you're planning on hurting or disrespecting me, my friends, or any other group of people, then you can fuck right off. Beyond that, I am desperately needing to expand my creative palette and branch out into other forms of media that I've not indulged in before, so if you think you've got something to offer there then send me an ask!
