halflingkelby:
Finding new places to hide had become something of a hobby for Kelby. The first trick of magic heâd learned was how to make himself invisible â much to his superiorsâ chagrin â and it had been serving him well. Still, he sometimes forgot that the spell would wear off in time, and that often resulted in people getting a little bit of a surprise.Â
Not realizing that he was now visible, Kelby was confused at first. Was there another person besides him there? He looked around and saw that Ximori was addressing him, and his own cheeks took on a shade of red as well. âMori⌠Itâs just me,â he said with a sheepish laugh. Kelby helped himself up and gave her a soft smile. âYou donât⌠you donât have to leave, and especially not to accommodate me.â
Kelby was absolutely head over heels for the princess, unable to keep the pining smile from his face. Besides Evan, Ximori was his closest friend. And he could see that something was bothering her. âWhy donât we grab a horse and ride out for a while and you can tell me what it is thatâs causing you to frown.â
Once the identity of the other person registered, Ximori broke into a smile. âYou always say itâs just me like youâre nobody special.â She closed the space between them and wrapped her arms around him. The hug lingered longer than it probably should, and was tighter than need be. Ximoriâs feelings were never as obvious as Kelbyâs until they made physical contact. But, unfortunately, she had a role to play and that role did not involve eloping with a stableboy.Â
Still, escaping the confines of Tergarronâs walls for a while with Kelby was always something she would look forward to. Being out there was enough to make her forget who everyone wanted her to be. At least for a little while.Â
âThat sounds like heaven. Have a horse ready in twenty minutes; Iâm going to raid the kitchens and meet you at the stables.â
