“So that’s it? You’re just going to walk away from me again?” Tears are threatening the boy’s eyes, but he bites them back with all his might and masks them with anger; fire to her ice. Klaus could cry in front of his sisters, but never in front of her.
“I was lost long before I even met you and I thought you’d found me, but I guess I was wrong. You know, sometimes I wonder if you’re ever really sorry or it was all just a game to you, but you have a point. I won’t hesitate -- I won’t waste another minute thinking about you.”

MAN YOU EVER THINK ABOUT THE BAUDELAIRES GOING FROM WELL CARED FOR CHILDREN TO FIGHTING AND GROWING UP TOO FAST AND LOSING WHATEVER WAS LEFT OF THEIR CHILDHOOD TO TRAUMA AND THEN WHEN THEYRE FINALLY SAFE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PARENTHOOD IS THRUST UPON THEM, AND THEY TAKE UP THE MANTLE GLADLY EVEN IN THE FACE OF THE FEAR OF RAISING THIS NEW BABY WRONG AND HAVING HER GROW UP TO BE WICKED OR HER BEFALLING ANY OF THE HORRIBLE THINGS THEY HAD TO ENDURE BUT THEY LITERALLY JUST DROP IT ALL AND RAISE A CHILD TOGETHER ON AN ISLAND BECAUSE THEY LOVE HER AND ITS WHATS RIGHT?? DO YOU EVER THINK ABOUT THAT? DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT THEY LITERALLY GO AGAINST OLAF’S FINAL WORDS TO NOT “HAVE ANY KIDS YOURSELF” BECAUSE THEY LIVE ON IN THE HOPE OF BREAKING THE CYCLE OF ABUSE THAT WENT FROM VFD TO OLAF TO THEMSELVES, WHICH IS ULTIMATELY THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM AND OLAF, WHILE THEY BOTH DEALT WITH TRAUMA AND SORROW THE BAUDELAIRES REFUSE TO TURN IT AROUND ON OTHERS AND OLAF DID. FUCK.
Violet Baudelaire, the eldest, was one of the finest fourteen inventors in the world. Anyone who knew Violet well could tell she was inventing something when her long hair was tied up in a ribbon. Klaus Baudelaire, the middle child, loved books; or rather the things he learned from books. And everything he read, he remembered. Sunny, the youngest, had a different interest. She liked to bite things and had four sharp teeth. There was very little Sunny did not enjoy biting.

for @xinfortunatus.
"Hands off."
There's a flash of silver as the doll's face swings up towards the approaching figure - Mary's fingertips are just seconds from squeezing the trigger mechanism when she registers it's only a child, and she freezes.
Doesn't mean anything. Children can be just as dangerous. She thinks of her own face still plastered across the evening news.
"What do you want?"
"Nothing!" Violet's shout is whispery thin, but alarmed all the same. "I just -- is that a gun?" She narrows her eyes, trying to get a good look at the contraption from a safe distance. "That's...pretty impressive, if you don't mind my saying so."
thevalicemultiverse:
“Sorry,” Victor says automatically to Violet – then laughs and shakes his head. “I mean – it is kind of ingrained in me at this point. I’m still unlearning a few things from my own childhood.” Such as apologizing for everything he says, does, is… But that’s an even grimmer topic for tea, so he won’t get into the details.
He smiles back at Sunny, nodding. “Oh yes. They’re delicious.” He leans forward conspiratorially. “As good as the March Hare’s, though don’t tell him I said that.” Looking around the three Baudelaires in general, he adds, “I’m sure she wouldn’t mind meeting you – she just had another engagement today, with her aunt on a shopping trip. We could certainly arrange another meeting when she has some free time. I think she’d be quite impressed with what you’ve put together.”
“Who isn’t?” Klaus can’t help but remark. He smiles on his baby sister as she laughs at Victor’s compliments, always so full of life and infectious even in the face of great danger.
“Well, then tell her we’d be very much obliged,” Violet says with a curt nod and smile. “Just let us know whenever she’s available and we’ll see if it aligns with our schedule; it can get very busy in here.” Her smile widens sheepishly.
But by the time she was six weeks old, the two of them were thick as thieves, a phrase which here means, “fetching and biting for hours on end.”

Violet’s own heart is going a mile a minute, freckled cheeks touched by a rosiness rarely seen on them. She laughs to hide her nervousness, though she’s clearly glowing with genuine happiness at the same time. Her pretty friend wanted to kiss her back. “I mean, sure, if you want to.”
canonfoddcr:
“Thank you.” Shock lays out a card- the heirophant, reversed. “See this? This is the heirophant. Reversed. It can mean a lot of things, but most relevant to you is this….don’t trust those in power. It’s time for you to break away from tradition and forge your own path.”
“My own path...That’s kind of figure out when your main priority at the moment is not dying.” And of course, there’s a large part of him that wants to do his dad proud by carrying on to do all the brave and noble things he did even when (or if) all of this is over, but he doesn’t speak about this. Instead, Klaus bites his lip, a small ghost of a smile on his face. “But thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.”
Roger Duvoisin, 1944
Dearest children - since we’ve been abroad we have missed you all so much. Certain events have compelled us to extend our travels. One day, when you’re older, you will learn all about the people we have befriended and the dangers we have faced. At times the world can seem an unfriendly and sinister place, but believe us when we say that there is much more good in it than bad. All you have to do is look hard enough. And what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events may, in fact, be the first steps of a journey. We hope to have you back in our arms soon, darlings, but in case this letter arrives before our return, know that we love you. It fills us with pride to know that no matter what happens in this life, that you three will take care of each other, with kindness and bravery and selflessness, as you always have. And remember one thing, my darlings, and never forget it: that no matter where we are, know that as long as you have each other, you have your family. And you are home.’ A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
