Artemisia was bored, aimlessly walking around the city at night, something most denizens of Sunset Port wouldn’t dare to do. Preferring to stay safe behind deadbolts and closed blinds. Usually she would be out, enjoying the night with Vito, but the bastard had gone and got herself married. So Artemisia was left to her own devices. She thought she would go out, maybe go to LUX have some fun. But then she saw the young doctor walking to the bus stop. A stupid move, didn’t the intern have a car? She considered walking away, leaving the doctor to her own devices, and then she saw some leery looking men down the street. The Organization wasn’t the only thing the civilians of Sunset Port had to fear in the dark. There was no guarantee the men would go after Xio, but Artemisia had served as an Erinye offering up protection for too many years, and her feet compelled her towards the bus stop against her better judgement.Â
She sidled up beside the woman, quiet as a shadow, realizing she had no excuse for why she would be at a bus stop. “Sorry to startle, it wasn’t my intention” she said. Lazily leaning against the sign, her hand lazily resting at the knives she kept at her waist. She preferred a gun, but if it came to it she had a feeling the young doctor would protest at Artemisia shooting first and asking questions after. She rolled her eyes at the womans rambling, she never saw the things that kept others cowering in the homes after sunset. Though she supposed that had to do a fair bit with the way she was raised, almost always in shadow. When she mentioned working late Artemisia let out a low laugh, even if she kept regular working hours this would hardly be considered working late. “Just enjoying the night I suppose, waiting around until I found something interesting.” she looked the woman up and down, and checked her watch, wondering how long it would take for the bus to get here. “I’ve got a car a couple blocks down? You need a ride? It will be a hell of a lot quicker than waiting for this bus” she said finally, her eyes tracking the men as they continued their drunken lumber down the street.
Xiomara has barely been here very long, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know people. People she’s met at the yoga studio, the coffee shop, from acquaintances, coworkers and the like. And then there were the patients.  She always remembered the patients, a downfall of her job, she guessed, that she remembered the most tragic of them all.  Artemisia is a face and a person she couldn’t forget, patching up a wound she didn’t bother asking questions about, seeing it too many times before in Sunset Port in her short time here.  She remembers liking her,  as far as you can like someone you’re patching up, but she remembers that she wasn’t rude, impatient or any other pet peeves of hers.  It said a lot for someone who was likely in pain.  Xiomara is pretty sure the other won’t harm her, and so she lets her guard down when she realizes just who it is leaning against the sign.
She wonders when she’ll get to the point of living in Sunset Point where she’ll be okay with walking around at night to enjoy it, because while she knows there are things that creep in the dark corners, she also knows there’s a lot more to it than that. At least that’s what she’s heard in testimonials, people she’s worked with and the like. There’s something about the way Artemisia looks at her, speaks to her, that makes her feel unsettled, like she’s saying something wrong but she suspects she maybe is, so she brushes it away. The other has far more experience with this place than she does. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to follow her gaze, and when Xio finally does, she thinks maybe she could kick her own ass for not making note of the men just feet from her. She wonders why and how she didn’t notice them, and now she feels weird, watched and unsafe again. She takes a breath and looks at her watch. The bus won’t be here for another twenty minutes, and a lot can happen in that time.
“Uhm, if you’re sure,” she finally says, glancing behind her again. “If it’s not out of your way?”
