Why is Stefan always the one who makes the Sacrifice? Why is he always the one who falls prey to the latest evil? And yet, he is always the lesser brother.
Ask anyone who their favourite Salvatore is, they say Damon. Why is Stefan the second priority. For Elena, it’s Damon first, for Damon it’s Elena first, and for Caroline, it’s the Twins first. I choose Stefan. Stefan, because:
He forgave his Mother, even when she hurt him. While, Damon held on to his grudge. Even during their Mother’s last breaths. And that’s just one example.
2. He puts his family first:
All throughout the years, Stefan has put Damon first. Before Elena, before Caroline, before himself. Hell, he got marked by Rayna Cruz trying to protect Damon.
3. He understands everyone:
He understood Caroline’s struggle as a new Vampire and her decision regarding the twins. He understood Elena’ love for Damon.
4. He is there for everyone:
He was there for Elena when she lost the people she loved one by one.
He was there for Damon when he needed him.
He was there for Caroline everytime she felt lost.
He was also there for Bonnie when she lost all hope.
5. He was trapped in his own personal hell. Twice:
First, when he was trapped by Silas in that locker and was drowning again and again. Struggling to keep his Humanity on. The only thing keeping him human, was Elena.
Second, was his literal hell when he was trapped in the Phoenix Stone.
6. He’s got his heart broken one too many times.
7. Once again, he was forced to make a sacrifice:
In the recent episode, [spoiler alert] when Seline kidnapped the Twins to cut a deal to free her sister and herself from the Devil. Caroline takes her ring off and warns Stefan that if Damon comes between her twins and herself, she will kill him. And again, Stefan was forced to choose between Love and Family. And he chose the mid-path instead. He freed the Twins with the help of Sybil and Damon, and made yet another sacrifice, which brings me to the final point.
8. He cut a deal with the Devil:
[spoiler alert again] Okay, I gotta give props to both Salvatores on this one. Both of them, to save the Twins, sold their Immortal Souls to the Devil, Arcadius. To be servants of his, and serve him like Sybil and Seline did. And you know what he asked to do in his last 24 hours? Spend time with Caroline. *sniffles*
I would like to squeeze in another tiny point. Let me tell you that if you don’t like Stefan, then you should know that nobody, nobody in this world hates Stefan more than himself. His remorse eats him on the inside. And someone that broken, deserves all the the love in the world.
This is a small list of the qualities that make Stefan the better Salvatore for me,throughout the 6 seasons I’ve seen (I’ve never seen the first 2 seasons). I know, I know, that Stefan made Damon turn into a Vampire. But yet, in the long run, Stefan has really been given the Eternity Of Misery promised by Damon.
