Some thoughts on Fallon & Trump and why it’s important to put reason before emotions
So, ever since Donald Trump got elected (and even during the campaign) many voices argued that Jimmy Fallon “humanized” Trump by inviting him on the Tonight Show and letting him participate in bits and sketches. What I didn’t hear was praise on the fact that he treated Trump’s opponent - Hillary R. Clinton - in the SAME way.
Yes, I agree that Trump is obnoxious and should never hold any kind of public office, but attacking Jimmy Fallon for merely doing his job is wrong and unwarranted for. You simply cannot blame Jimmy for Trump’s win because there is no way in hell he influenced more than 60 million people to vote for The Donald by messing up his hair and asking if he ever played the game “Sorry.”
Also, I would like to highlight the fact that the Tonight Show is not “Meet the Press” or any other political show, Jimmy is not a political pundit or a political satirist like other late night hosts (Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher etc. - comedians who covered this election on a daily/weekly basis and publicly supported Clinton) and he was one of the few late night hosts to actually provide viewers an escapade from the depressing election cycle that we all witnessed last year.
I feel like this needs to be said, especially now when people feel the need to blame Mr. Fallon for Donald Trump’s success, when really the blame is on the shoulders of the american people that got him elected by voting for him, voting for a third party, and of course not voting at all.
This is on you, not on a late night talk show host who can only be accused of doing his job, and is probably on the top of the ratings for this exact reason.
