dominojackson:
Domino hadn’t remembered the last time she’d felt adrenaline like that. It had been a while since she’d made use of a firearm during a shootout. She’d only kept her gun concealed on her person because after all these years she’d be remiss if she thought her rivals could ever be trusted–but to be so arrogant, so imbecilic to make the masquerade ball a warzone? That made her blood boil something hotter than anything she’d ever felt.
Sitting at the edge of her seat, Dom ran her hands over themselves repeatedly. The only thing that made her more upset was thinking about her family that had been victimized by the Royals’ actions. In her mind, she hadn’t fired back quick enough in the moment the chaos erupted, hadn’t focused hard enough maybe. Perhaps if she had of some of the people she loved most would not be in the positions they were in now. That included Anton who had been obviously provoked by the Royals’ careless actions himself. Yet, even while knowing this, she wasn’t necessarily equipped to respond well to his question.
Domino turned over her shoulder to look at him with a purposely forced smile, “Um, and have you ever thought about not asking me dumb ass questions?” After that she paused, eyes closing to accept the fact that she was losing her temper on the wrong person, “I’m sorry,” she sighed. Moments later she stretched a hand out as an invitation for him to grab. It was true she wanted to offer softness to counteract how harsh her words had been, but it was truer that she wanted to be close to him–the only constant in her life that wasn’t so endangered… this time.
“The answer is no. But I signed up for this… can’t forget that.”

Well, he’d certainly expected some pushback, but not quite like that. While it was true she was under an immense amount of stress, getting that sharp of a response over a simple question had him noticeably flinching. Christ, did her anger terrify him. He sat down rather hesitantly next to her when she offered her hand, looking at anything but her. The decor in her apartment seemed very interesting to look at all of a sudden.
"Mm.” He hummed in response at her mention of her having signed up for this. He’d heard her say that many times since they’d gotten together, which had him feeling like his question was that much more foolish. If anyone wasn’t going to back away from a fight it was her. ‘Haven’t forgotten.’ He thought to himself. ‘Was just hoping you’d changed your mind.’ He exhaled a sigh, trying to figure out what to do next. Posing that question to her was bound to sound just as stupid as his last, as if she wasn’t already thinking about that. “Well, I am here to help. Anyway I can.” He said finally, resigned. “If you need any assistance strategizing...” He offered carefully, glancing at her. “Or, you know. I could speak to Miguel. When things have calmed some. And tensions aren’t running so high.”
