they were never really made for the brotherhood, chanyeol thinks, but its too late now. 

“we got a turtle instead,” he laughs, and for once, it’s not bitter, “yixing named it toto.”

Kris happily accepts the beer from the bartender and doesn’t waste a second before taking the first drink. It’s cold and refreshing and he can hardly taste the bitterness that usually comes with bottled beer. As Chanyeol gives him a slight peek into his dreams he smiles. Smiles because unknowingly or not the medic just shared a bit of himself, and he smiles because he could see it. 

He could see both of them living that white picket fence life. They could be that happy. For a fraction of his second his smile becomes strained as jealously strikes him. They could be happy but could he? He pushes the thought away with another drink of his beer. It’s easier than thinking about it. Not to mention he is happy that they have a chance, even if it’s not one they could ever take. 

He starts to scratch the paper off of the bottle with the bottle cap “Hey ya never know, it could still happen someday. Both of ya deserve it.”  Kris chuckles softly about the turtle. 

“What? And I wasn’ named the godfather?” He brings a hand up over his heart feigning hurt “Now that’s just cruel. I thought we were friends.”

“and it’s never easy,” he looks at the pool stick, playing with it idly while he shifts all his weight on to his left leg. “love is a whole lot of not being what i thought it was.” chanyeol shrugs and when he smiles, it’s wistful and content, “but i can’t imagine anything else. i wouldn’t want to imagine anything else” 

he realizes that wufan, although infinitely older than chanyeol, will never understand this particular feeling. chanyeol doesn’t know if he understands it either and he’s been in a relationship longer than he can even remember.

Kris blinks at the shift in mood of their conversation, and momentarily he’s distracted by how quickly it shifted that he’s not really paying attention to the words coming from the medic. But he manages to catch on to the main part of it. 

A grin takes over his face for a second before he’s laughing out, a combination of mirth and genuine joy echoing in the cramped bar. It doesn’t matter to him that now people are looking at them, most curiously but some with light glares that held no real ill-intent. 

“Sorry” he breathes out with the last bits of his laugh “but ya just looked so serious n’stuff. When diddja get so romantic?” A light smile settles on his face as he leans back against the stool like chair. Gesturing towards the bartender for another beer he looks at Chanyeol briefly interrupting their conversation for a very important reason. “Want another one?”  

“I’m glad though...That you’re both happy, at least with each other.” He waves a hand around almost dismissively “or content, or whatever ya wanna call it.”

Shooting Kris a cold death glare, he felt practically naked. He fucking hated being without his jacket, never mind being dressed in ‘training-ready clothes’ which really only consisted of a tank top and looser fitting jeans and an older pair of combat boots.

Snapping his neck in the direction of the stupid fucking path he had tried to locate tox pulled at his hair, a growl of anger leaving him. “Oh yes theres the fucking path! You think if i had fucking seen it I wouldn’t have had to find my fucking way around this whole fucking island!? Noboby comes the fuck up here?! Nobody but you Mr. Beach Trash! You expect me, the motherfucking city-slicker to know how to navigate these stupid fucking paths?! And! And! Might I add when have I been one not to be both cruel and excessive?! Hmm? Pray tell!”

Kris crossed his arms across his chest at the other, “Aight n’how the hell is it my fault ya suck at nature? Sides, ya dun need to “navigate” the paths. Ya just walk on them and voila! There’s only like three paths up’ere!” he uncrossed his arms to flail them about for a second as if the movement would make it obvious that he’d have to really fuck up to get lost. Well maybe the small spat would serve to fuel their fight. 

While he waited for the other to make a movie, he inspected him, trying to see if he had any weapon on him. He’d never seen Tox physically fight before. Most of the time his toxins took care of everything without him having so much as lift a finger. His gaze hardened a bit as he remembered the purple cloud of miasma that could kill him in a few seconds. Was he stupid to ask for a fight? Of course he was. Tox could kill him in a single touch, but was he really being himself if he wasn’t being stupid? Probably not. 

He wondered, if Tox could change the composition of the toxins in the miasma to something more docile. If he could he’d have his work cut out for him. But then that was the point of this fight wasn’t it? To see how well they could hold up against each other. He knew his own strength and he knew Tox was strong too but up against each other? it was too totally different styles of combat. 

He took note of where Tox had left all of his antidotes and nodded before blinking in surprise. “Ya told Chanyeol?” He wasn’t against it he just didn’t think Tox and Chanyeol were that close seeing as how the medic wasn’t too fond of him. Or perhaps his sentiments had changed. 

The moment Tox charges at him Kris adjusts his arms and flexes his fingers so that the water whip turns into a rotating ring around him waiting for the other’s first move.

The Flan Returns

Wuflan was lucky Tox had decided to let him into the people he likes more so than others. Had he continued spewing shit about the ocean and had gone off to talk about how ‘wonderful’ it it. Bleh! No gracias. No sooner had tox handed himself back over to the city of Inju than listened to the King of flan swoon over the ocean.

“Damn fucking right I’m the best brotherhood terrorist they got working here! dont you forget it! Fucking love my job as much as I hate the damn ocean!” Tox would give Wuflan this, he knew how to get him to talk less. Not many people knew how to do that. Would he ever admit that to the water-bender, fuck no.

Not even out of the changing room the brotherhood portal had to fucking be placed int Tox was already sick to his stomach. The disgusting smell of salt and seaweed hitting his nose like some kind of gross humid fog. Uh, he fucking hated the ocean. Hearing the shrieks and the sound of the waved, to was sure he was getting greener around the eyes.

A triumphant grin settled itself on his lips, knowing he had successfully managed to get Tox to stop his anti-ocean rant. But he didn’t get to enjoy the small victory he had, just as he didn’t get to enjoy the roaring ocean that had so kindly welcomed him to his home. It was made alright though as he got to see Tox storm away from the shore, much like a cat does when they’re splashed with water. 

Laughing at his wet cat attitude, Kris let himself fall in step with the terrorist, a task not at all difficult for him seeing as how they were similar in height. With a smirk on his face he raised hands up in front of him in feign surrender. “Alright, alright. I won’t bend any water at ya if ya dun go yellin’ it out for the world tuh hear.”

“Sides” he continued crossing his hands behind his head “If ya walk too far from the beach ya are just gonna end up at ‘nother one! Jungsoo ‘member? Small Island? Yes, no?” 

He can’t help but laugh again as they finally reach the road, and he can’t help but notice that the terrorist refused to so much as glance back towards the beach. “Dun worry ‘bout a view. You’re lucky I’m “beach trash”, as ya so kindly put it, cause otherwise we’d be eatin’ a one of those places. Everyone knows that those places are just for tourists. My local ass just saved ya! Ya dun have tuh thank me though.” 

Knowing he was asking to get hit, he quickly took a few steps out of Tox’s reach, hoping the distance and the heat would deter him from making the effort to hit him. “What diddja wanna eat ‘nyway?”
