“ paul’s body ? ” she repeated, suddenly very on edge. inhabitation of a human body was definitely against a witches morals - at least it was in ivy’s world. she felt the need to protect whoever paul was. “ did paul want this ? did you even ask him ? ”
His tone went from understanding and kind to again, slightly offended. He pressed his lips together, annoyed at the stupidity of the question. “Yes, I am not a demon and he can cast me out whenever he wishes. If I appeared in my true form your eyes would melt out of your sockets and you would turn to ash.”
“ well, you seem very honest to me, ” she complimented, hoping he took it as such. ivy knew she was asking what should be considered as too many questions, but she couldn’t help her genuine curiosity. “ so, if you’re technically not a ‘ fallen ’ angel, what are you doing on earth ? and is that… body not yours ? ”
“Thank you,” he said, genuinely, “I very much so try to be. Lying is a sin, so I prefer not to do it ever, unless it is necessary for a person’s safety.” Machidiel shook his head, “No, this is Paul’s body. I’m here to help my brothers and sister here on Earth.”
“I don’t think it’s a bad thing either, to be honest.” She shrugged. “I guess I just hoped that we wouldn’t stay here for the rest of our lives.”
“I don’t either, and I understand that,” he gave her a sympathetic nod, before asking, “How old are you all? Surely you have time.”
ivy felt as though she could trust the angel before her and that said a lot. she could tell his words were genuine , or at least assumed they were. it was always a dangerous game to play with people who weren’t her kind, but she believed she had good instincts and was able to tell right from wrong. “ lucifer . that makes sense, ” the blonde nodded, glad he was able to help her understand. “ you seem very honest. are all angels like that ? ”
He wasn’t going to lie to her or sugar-coat it, even in Heaven, he had a reputation of being honest in a way that indicated Machidiel did not know how to hold his tongue. “Yes, Lucifer. There are angels who have followed his path, but since they were not our Father’s favorite son, they were stripped of their Grace before they did. We never thought Lucifer would do that.” He shook his head, “No, but we are supposed to be.”

“ do angels ever go bad ? like, do they come here for good, but end up turning their backs and doing the wrong thing ? ” ivy wondered, hoping to find out more about his kind. the last thing she wanted was to be ignorant towards a certain species. especially if her duty was to make sure they stayed in line with the balance of nature. “ or are all angels inherently good creatures ? ”
“Well, yes but they are disobedient, and then they fall, and they are usually not an angel anymore. An example is Lucifer,” he answered her question, not finding it foolish in the slightest. He hesitated with the next question, “I believe that we are. But I also believe that there are ways in which angels can go rogue. Many angels justify that because they feel entitled to their actions. They’re older, they say. Better.”

“i’ve been trying to remember that. i know of a few people who will not be happy about my departure.” she would be sure to repeat her brother’s words in her mind when dealing with the backlash from those she had grown close to before she left. but she still felt guilt regardless of the fact that she didn’t owe anybody a thing. when machidiel admitted he had been having doubts, it took the younger angel by surprise and she arched a brow but didn’t comment. she understood it well. in fact, when she had been having doubts of her own, she had confided in lucifer of all people about it. “an alcoholic drink?” nyx asked with an amused grin. “who are you and what have you done with my brother?” still, she nodded and gestured towards the grill. “i’ll tell you all about my time away and you can confide in me about your doubts, if you wish. i think i may be able to understand.”
“Send those people to me and I will set them onto the correct path,” he told her. As smart as his little sister was, she was also incredibly naïve. It seemed as if she was easy to take advantage of, especially by Earth men who had little morals and were generally grotesque, deformed monsters. If he had identities of them, he’d be sure to instill fear into them. Not the fear of God, because he wasn’t sure if God was still around, or if he even cared. What was the point of making cosmic threats if they were so unlikely to be acted upon? He seemed to be more protective of Castiel and Nyx because their father was no where to be found. He followed, managing a chuckle, “I have become more hip to the norms of this day and age Nyx, do not act too surprised. Besides, my vessel seems to be especially sensitive to the effects of such. I will. I just do not want to say them too loudly, just in case.”
“So would I. If my siblings said that they wanted to go, there is nothing else holding me back.” She replied. “I guess we’re the kind of people that would do anything for family.”
Machidiel shrugged, before adding, “Well, yes, I think that is a quality that I have. Seems like you have it, too. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, though. To stay here for that.”
“ well, i suppose it’s because people, ” she began, “ don’t know much about angels. demons are easier to explain, but angels ? it’s not as common. at least i don’t think they are. ” ivy didn’t have a problem with any supernatural being, so long as they didn’t harm humans or the balance of nature. “ but i think it’s interesting. i don’t have anything against you so far. ”
“Yes, because we do not like to harass the Earth as much,” he suggested, before proceeding to add, “Oh yes, god forbid someone has something against me,” he cracked a small smile before adding. “It’s hard to have people comprehend you when they don’t believe in any good. Not that I blame them.”

Anastasia: Hey I was wondering if maybe if you weren't busy you wanted to go get some pizza with me?
Machidiel: Of course, I love pizza. Where did you want to go?
“Will do.” Ana got up from her seat and slung her bag over her shoulder. Walking up beside him she gave him a sweet kiss on the cheek. “Thank you again, Machidiel. I’ll see you around.”
His cheeks turned crimson at the display of affection, he had never been kissed before on Earth and it was a shock to him. “Of course,” he managed to stutter out, “Text message me without hesitation, yes?”
“this place. the people. i have to face them all,” she explained. “it’s been a long time, i may not be accepted back.” in a way, he was right about angels being inherently brave, but nyx had experienced human life and human emotions. she recognised nerves and fear well. even as an angel, she still experienced it. “just alright?” nyx questioned curiously, trying to prompt him to talk to her. “i’ve been everywhere. heaven searching for our father, earth trying to help those that needed it. i’ve seen a lot of things, dear brother.”
“That is fair enough, Nyx, but remember, you do not owe them anything. You do not owe the world anything, you are an angel. That is simply enough,” he told her, just to make sure that she knew that. She had an obligation to be good, but not to subject herself to anything worse than that which may upset her. He was worried about that, clearly. “If you must know, I have been having some doubts, Nyx. I am confused,” he stated, before giving her a soft smile, “Perhaps you can tell me about it over glasses of Dr. Pepper, or one alcoholic drink.”
“ i apologize if i’ve offended you, ” she furrowed her eyebrows, wishing she could take back what she had said. but when he claimed he was an angel, it shocked her. “ i’ve just never met an angel. didn’t think they were real. what do you… do exactly ? ”
“Oh no, you have not offended me. I do get that reaction quite often, you see. It’s common. I just never know why people think I am joking at first thought,” he gave her a small polite smile, not knowing exactly how to answer her next question. “I am originally a teacher, for the other angels.”

“ an angel ? ” she lifted her eyebrows in both curiosity and surprise, desperately wanting to know more about what that meant exactly. ivy had heard of them, but never believed for a second that they were real or that it was possible for them to walk upon earth. “ seriously ? ”
“Yes, seriously,” he expected this reaction now, he had gotten so much of it. He was proud of what he was, even though he didn’t know exactly who he was at this point. "I would not lie. Lying is bad, remember?”
seeing her brother brought a beaming smile to nyx’s face. while she wasn’t as close to machidiel as she was castiel, she still loved him dearly and was ecstatic to see him again. “it’s… a term the humans use. i believe it means to pull yourself together. be brave and face things, in this particular situation,” she explained, hoping she had gotten it right. regardless of how much time she had spent with humans, she still got things mixed up sometimes. “how have you been, brother? it’s very good to see you.”
“Well, what are you facing? You’re an angel, you are inherently brave,” he gave her a little grin, forgetting about the fact that she was his kid sister who he usually, was a lot more critical of. Machidiel felt that Nyx was more naïve that him and Castiel, and he felt the need to protect her, which is why he was always so worried and strict with her. “I am alright,” he said simply. He wasn’t good. He was still having his God existential crisis. But he did not want to lie. “Where have you been?”
“That would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.” It was genuine for sure. She wasn’t going to betray a second chance at life again. “That’s nice to hear. I hope I can find more people like that soon enough.”
“Of course, Anastasia,” he used her full name, only because he was old fashioned and not too lazy to say the extra syllables. “You will. Just be careful and stay away from people who are not right in the head.”
“Right then,” Henrik lifted his brows. He couldn’t care what this guy thought he knew, so he merely shrugged a shoulder. It was the last comment that made him chuckle. “Well. I did say I wouldn’t buy any. So I guess I’m not that stupid, huh? I know what stranger danger is.”
“And that’s why you’re wandering aimlessly at night? Yes, or else you may have a death wish, but most people on this Earth do. It’s hard for you all to find joy in the simple things,” he stated, before waving him away, “Run along, go home son, I have business to take care of.”
