Pisces Common Archetype, The Dreamer
Most likely know Piscesâs association with fantasy, escapism, and illusions. They also are closely linked to dreams whether we are talking daydreaming, sleeping, or wishes. I was tossed between exploring the archetype of âdreamerâ or of the âhopeless romanticâ, both Pisces tends to get labeled with. But they have similarities and are partially relate to one another.Â
Many times âescapismâ can be framed as something negative, a way to avoid real life and responsibilities but escapism can be important in healing and coping. This can be both a weakness or strength for Pisces. For a Pisces with a lot of earth influences their escapism and fantasy tendencies combined with the stability and ambition of earth can brew a perfect storm to make dreams a reality. Pisces with a lot of fire can combine passion with dreamy expectations and extraordinary ideas to create an idealist that is unstoppable. Pisces with a lot of air influences can cultivate a society-changing or life-changing imagination. While yes Piscesâs escapist trait can get them into trouble it can also be a powerful tool.Â
In all this fantasy combined with their great need to connect, merge, to become one with another you get an archetype that finds it easier to float up to cloud 9. There is a natural trusting nature that comes from their ability to understand others and feel what they feel, from their quiet connection to the whole, to cycles, or even to the divine, and from their ability to go with the flow and have a fluid part of themselves. While known for being intuitive and highly perceptive, it is ironic how this does not save them from idolizing others and putting people on a pedestal. Pisces influences many times see the world through rose-colored glasses and even more so seeâs the people they care about through a fantasy, especially in terms of romance. When that illusion is shattered, they tend to get greatly hurt or lose interest. This sign is one I see many astrologers and others hardly agree on their faithfulness. Pisces is known to disappear after their beautiful vision of someone burns up or falls apart but they are a water sign who has a strong urge to attach, not to mention they are self-sacrificing, loving, and many argue is the sign most known for unconditional love. Iâd say as an astrologer I would normally categorize Pisces as a pretty faithful sign, one who normally gets into long-term relationships. I mean this in terms of archetype not people, for example stereotypically Gemini gets a lot of grief for unfaithfulness, but I really have not met a disloyal Gemini.Â
Even if a Pisces is with someone for years and years, or even when talking about family I think there is a hard realization Pisces may need to come to terms with at least once if not over and over again about those they love. It is a cycle of emotionally and mentally building others up and up in their head and then watching said person fall or experiencing a dose of reality about the person. Maybe at times this is part of the deep pain Pisces sensitive self frequently endures.Â
Despite being hurt over and over or even with more cynical influences such as Capricorn or Scorpio or even highly realistic influences with Virgo, Taurus, maybe Aquarius, Pisces influences may still find themselves always struggling against an unrealistic view of the world. Venus in Pisces may experience this the most in their relationships, Mars in Pisces in how they approach ambition or conflict, and Sun in Pisces in how the self interacts with the world or identity.Â
A Pisces I know once challenged my complaining about a movie being unrealistic, claiming âthatâs the whole point of fiction or fantasy, to not be real.â While Pisces escapism can be a path for illusion, denial, or manipulation it can also be a path to hope and faith. Pisces archetype as the dreamer shows the power of imagination, how important it is to escape from the material world into a place with more meaning or excitement, and in symbolic with their associations to death and rebirth can be a gateway to what isnât here yet, what isnât created but is forming below the surface, subconsciously, on another plane.Â
