Maeve had tried so hard this time, but she had messed up again. She knew it was going to take more time and was a process but she had taken a step back and relapsed. She was frustrated with herself and knew as soon as she could she would try to fix things again. Unfortunately. though she was still a bit out of it and was trying to get herself in order the best she could. She had been sitting in the coffee shop for a couple of hours drinking coffee and eating only to fall asleep due to exhaustion. As soon as someone moved the chair next to her, Maeve woke up and rubbed her eyes. “ Oh hey, sorry. I didn’t see you there”

“Come on man, I’ll have the money tomorrow just…please.” It was no use though because he had already over used every ounce of credit he had in him with all the dealers he knew in town. He shuffled away defeated and turned to see a familiar face behind him. “Oh for fucks sake. The last thing I need is anyone else to reprimand me for poor life choices so just, save it.” He shook his head and tried to push past them. Liam was obviously high and not his usual self because his head was so clouded trying to fill a void that was never gonna be found.

Maeve thought she had been doing so well lately, but all it took was one day and here she was trying to buy something and hoping her common sense talked her out of it before she gave her money. She looked at Liam as soon as she heard his voice before hiding what she had purchased on her pocket. “ I’m down here too. I don’t think I am in any place to judge. “

Harper had to resist the urge to groan at the woman’s question. Usually the people who came in looking for the strongest drink on the menu got wasted and then Harper had to worry about calling them a ride home. But right now this woman seemed sober enough, so she hoped they wouldn’t come to that point tonight. Instead she said “We have a sazerac that is pretty strong. And of course there’s always the tried and true classic of a Long Island iced tea.” Harper personally preferred the sazerac when she wanted something strong, but the Long Island iced tea was a crowd favorite. Even if it could be a pain in the ass to make, thanks to all the liquors used in it.

Maeve took off her jacket as she listened to the other woman’s suggestions, While alcohol wasn’t her particular vice, she still knew her alcohol fairly well and knew her limits. It wasn’t so much she wanted to get trashed, but she didn’t want to spend a lot to get a buzz, cause her finances were kind of in a bind since her accident. “ The sazerac sounds like the better choice. I like a long island, but it always is so messy or really busy to make.”

“Well, maybe this will be it. Or maybe we’ll keep trying. I don’t know,” Natalie said with a shrug. “It could go either way. I’ve never done this before.” She took a deep breath and let it out, gracing her sister with a smile. “I think what I’ll put in it depends on how successful it is as a bowl. It might be a decorative lump. Or maybe it’ll hold my keys. Or maybe if we’re unlucky, it’ll hold Chance’s face until he smashes it. I’m kind of thinking about getting him a buddy, but I haven’t decided if that will help or hurt the ‘calm down’ cause.”

Giving Maeve a bit of a once-over, she switched her focus. “We have a couple of minutes until we have to go in. How are things going? You look okay, but I know looks aren’t everything.”

“If we have to keep trying I apologize in advance for all the craft objects we come home with” Maeve replied with half smile as she looked over at her sister. The reason for needing a distraction was serious, but she was trying to make the situation a little lighter. She didn't want to always going back and forth with her issues so Maeve was the kind of person that was always trying to get out of her current predicament. “Decorative lump is how most modern art begins. You might be onto something. “ Maeve added before smiling softly at the mention of Chance. She would have loved a pet but she knew she wasn’t in the place to take care of anything but herself. “What kind of buddy were you thinking? Like a cat?”

Maeve normally hated being asked questions, but when it came to Natalie, she was always open. “ Better than normally . Not great but today is a pretty good day. How about your?”

It was early evening at Norwood’s, shortly before the dinner rush was about to start. One of her bartenders had called out sick, so Harper decided to get behind the bar and send the other one on a break before the crowds started showing up. Turning to the nearest person who appeared to be waiting, she gave them a warm smile. “What can I get you to drink?” she asked.

Maeve knew that she needed to try to stay out of trouble. The only problem was there was a part of her that didn’t want to. She had gone through a rough time and while she was always trying to go back to the life she once had before, deep down she knew it would be impossible. Still, she knew she couldn’t hide forever and hope nothing bad ever happened again which brought her to Norwoods. It wasn’t a bad place to be and a drink or two wouldn’t hurt. “ What is your strongest drink right now? “ Maeve asked, trying to limit the amount of glasses coming her way, but she didn’t mind it being strong.

Over time, it had gotten less difficult to spend any real time with Maeve. At first, Natalie had been so wrapped up in grief and going through motions that she’d almost had to force herself to stick close and make plans. It wasn’t at all a reflection on affection she felt for the girl who had become like her sister – it was a reflection of where she, herself, was at. These days, and for a long time now, it was easier. She could suggest stupid activities to keep them busy and Maeve would tolerate it, for the most part. The big challenge now was everything Maeve had gone through and how it had worn her down. Natalie only wanted to be a source of support, to cling a little to one of the best ways Finn had changed her life forever. How that lead her to a glass blowing class, she couldn’t delineate. But she didn’t care to.

“If this sucks, we don’t have to stay,” she promised Maeve by way of a greeting in the parking lot. “I just need a new bowl for a table I bought and this is the most likely way for me to make one.”

Maeve knew that her life had fallen into disaster and that finding her out of it was never going to be an easy situation. She had made her own choices but losing her brother had never been her choice and it was clear losing Finn had been the turning point Sure , she could have pinned this on her MIA husband, but it wasn’t really his fault. Losing her hero had sent Maeve down a downward spiral and it was taking years to get out of it. Some days were harder than others, and her chemical issues were also dragging her down, but Maeve was always tying. She was always hoping that she could get out of the hole she was in. Keeping busy and spending time with others was Maeve’s biggest help. It made her grateful for those she still had and she wanted to hold onto these relationships.

Where she had lost her brother she had formed an unbeatable bond with Natalie. She was the only other person who knew exactly what she felt. Natalie was her sister and even if she was having a bad day, she would always try to pull it together to be able to spend time with the other woman. As the ice skater made her way to greet Natalie a small smile fell on her face. She waved her hand to disagree with what the other woman was saying. “ I think it’ll be fine. I kind of need to find a healthy hobby. ‘ She replied with a smile as she greeted her. “ Whats going in the bowl?”

“No problem.” What kind of person would Cameron have been if he’d just left it lying there? Even if he hadn’t found the owner immediately, he probably would have been straight to the closest police station to hand it in. “Do I take it your day hasn’t been going too well?” He had a feeling going by what she’d said and also the fact she looked kind of tired, something he wouldn’t dare point out — he’d learnt from Serena many years ago that would always be a mistake.

One of Maeve’s biggest weaknesses was the fact that she had a terrible poker face. It was how people were able to tell how she was feeling at all times. It also had been a problem when she was skating, because when the judges gave her a bad score it was all over her face. “ It’s been a really long day. I work in a bar, so I had a couple drinks after and I didn’t eat before so it hit me kind of hard” Maeve admitted. “ I needed to call for an ride home, so it was honestly amazing you found the phone. “

Saying that Maeve had a lot of drama in her life was a huge understatement. Some of it she brought on to herself while there were thing’s that were out of her own control. The fact that she had some people in her life that helped alleviate some of the bad thing’s in her life was a godsend. She didn’t know where she deserved to have friends in her life, but here she was walking in to meet one of them for coffee. It was the earliest she had been awake in a long time and Maeve definitely needed the caffeine after having a late night working at the bar. “ Hey! I hope I’m not late “

The room was bathed in a blue glow coming from the large glass walls of the dome, Jeremy sat on one of the benches in front of the glass elbows resting on his knees as he watched the world behind the glass. He found himself here now and then spending an afternoon off just watching the fish go about their day swimming back and forth peacefully in the tank above the dome room.

He felt someone sit beside him on the bench taking a moment more to himself lost in the windows infront of him before speaking to them without turning from the tank or regestering who it was. “Come here often” he joked the noise of the room taking over his senses again for the first time in an unknown number of minutes it could very well have been an hour that he had been sat there. “not going to lie i forgot this place could get so busy on a weekday i was a bit zoned out before you sat down”

Boredom was Maeve’s biggest enemy. It was often the number one reason why the ice skater would relapse and start back at square one. Having too much free time could cause a mind to wander and while it didn’t always work, Maeve tried to find anything to keep herself busy. Thankfully, she lived in a place where finding something to do wasn’t too difficult. She had been recommended by someone in her meetings to go to museums and aquariums to keep her mind busy without having to talk too much. It was why she was wandering around by herself staring at tanks and the light glow of the water.

As she took a seat, Maeve stopped what she was doing before looking over at who the voice had belonged to before giving him a shrug. “ First time” She noted before glancing back at the view. “ No I get what you mean. I came here expecting it to be less busy, but it’s still a nice view”

It was nothing unusual for the kids to run off without warning, leaving dad alone, slightly concerned, slightly relieved. Jamie would always take the lead, though, at eight he liked to think he was large and in charge, bossing his slightly younger brother around, constantly coming out with things like: ‘Don’t worry dad, I’m not a little kid anymore.’ Maybe not, even though Cam still considered him to be. Letting them lose on a couple of the kids rides was fairly safe, though, and it gave him a moment to himself. He took his position at a nearby railing, doing his best to act nonchalant and not like he was watching them like a hawk. That was when he noticed something drop to the floor a meter or so away, so immediately darted out to grab it. “Hey, you dropped this!”

Maeve had just gotten off of work and when she had this sort of free time at night she often got into some sort of trouble as a result. Tonight, she was trying to be on her best behavior, but after a few after work drinks and running on only a couple hours of sleep, Maeve was in no condition to walk home and went to call for a ride home instead. However as soon as she went to reach for her phone, Maeve couldn’t seem to find it. “ Shit” She muttered to herself before looking around only to stop at the sound of a voice. A small but relieved smile appeared on her face as she held her hand out. “ You just saved my day” Maeve replied checking to see if it was okay. “ I was literally looking for it to call for an Uber. Thank you so much“
