“there’s no way you guessed the killer right,” you gasped, your hand paused from running your fingers through jay’s shiny, black hair. “is this really your first time watching this movie or did you lie to me about that?”
“just accept your defeat and let it go, it’s not that deep.” the low scoff that came from the man whose head was placed on your lap made you finally look away from the screen. when you looked down, jay’s eyes had already found yours.
“you’re genuinely so irritating, i hate myself for asking you to come over.” you murmured.
a few hours ago you had impulsively send a text to jay asking him if he wanted to hang out and watch a movie or something. it was the weekend and your parents were not home, leaving you bored out of your wit and extremely hungry. so the reason you begged jay to come was so he could keep you company and hopefully make you something to eat.
and he did all of that, without hesitation.
although he would complain about how you can never do anything yourself and joked about you being scared to sleep alone like you were still a little girl, you never really took offence to any of the comments.
“you’ve always been slightly obsessed with me, and that’s okay because there’s no shame in it.” jay smiled, provoking you and testing your patience.
“you think you’re so smart,” you rolled your eyes at him, giving his hair a sharp tug. jay groaned softly at the sensation, and his hand was just as quick to pull back at your luscious curls. “asshole—“
before you got the chance to get back at him, jay pushed himself off you and tackled you down to the couch. he had his knees pressing into either sides of you, his huge form looming over you. he did not waste the opportunity to attack you at your weak spots, quick fingers tickling you until you were out of breath.
you thrashed against him as your laughter fills the room, your head thrown back into the soft cushion as you struggled to break free from him.
“okay, okay, i take it back!” you giggled while grabbing his hands, weakly gripping on his wrists to restraint him just a little bit. “you are not an asshole.”
“that’s right i’m not,” he sighed, pecking your forehead before dropping his weight next to you. “watch how you talk to me cause i won’t go easy on you next time.”
“ew brother, that sounds so… icky.” you faked a gag, your fist covering your mouth. you were looking at him to see if you could gouge another reaction from him.
“i’m not your brother,” he glared at you, as if the nickname was some kind of insult to him.
“you are! sort of.” you shrugged. “i mean, even my parents sees you as their second son at this point.”
you noticed the shift in his expression when he looked away, and you couldn’t help but ask him why he reacted that way. what you said wasn’t wrong though, your family loved him as if he was one of their own and vice versa. so what was up with that face he made?
“oh i know, you hate the idea of me being your sister.” you laughed softly. “i don’t mean it like that, what i’m saying is—“
“god, i know you’re slow but i’m not expecting you to be so dense.” jay cut you off without even looking at you, catching you off guard.
ouch? now why was he acting passive aggressive?
“dude, chill out.” you let out an awkward chuckle, threading carefully with your actions to not agitate him any further. “did i say the wrong thing or something? i’m sorry if i did.”
jay glanced at you once and let out a deep sigh before shaking his head. “it’s nothing, don’t hurt your head trying to figure it out.”
“jay, what’s your problem? i’ve apologised and you’re still giving me the passive aggressive attitude.” you rebut, your voice slightly raised and tone sharpening.
“i’m not—“ he stopped himself and groaned roughly, frustrated. “i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to be rude.”
“no because you acted weird right after i said you were like a brother to me,” you scoffed.
instead of answering, jay tilted his head to your direction and just stared at you. the silence that followed after was nervewrecking because you were slowly putting the pieces together.
“i never thought—“ you started, but the word died on the tip of your tongue in the end anyway. “well shit, this is awkward.”
“yeah, i definitely should’ve been more normal about it huh?” jay chuckled in an attempt to cover his nervousness. “now you can call me an asshole.”
“jay,” you sighed, unsure of how to put your thoughts into words.
throughout the years you two have been friends, the idea of dating jay had crossed your mind once— when you were in high school. it was when your girl friends were all flaunting about their love life and you were the only one who never really had any romantic experience beyond a 2 months situationship.
your friends joked about you asking jay to be your boyfriend, and you only thought about it shortly before the idea of you ruining your long term friendship came to your mind. so you buried it at the very back of your mind, you reminded yourself to be casual about everything you do with jay.
even though some of the things you guys did together were deemed too intimate to be done as ‘just friends’.
now sitting before him and having this conversation was slowly pulling that idea of exploring a relationship beyond platonic with jay back to the front of your head.
“i mean, i’m not opposed to it.” you cleared your throat, looking away shyly as your cheeks heat up.
“what?” his voice came out in a short breath, like he couldn’t believe this was happening too.
“friends to lovers is just so wholesome you know? the idea of having the person who you know and trust so much becoming the love of your life and all.” you added, stealing glances at him from the corner of your eyes.
“you’re such a geek,” he commented as he grab your chin and slowly turn your face towards his. “can’t even look at me while you drop that bomb on me.”
“god, you really are irritating.” you sighed as you slowly lean into him, your gaze moving back and forth between his brown iris and his soft lips.
“and i really want to kiss you,” he whispered softly with a quiet chuckle as he brushed your noses together.
“no correlation whatsoever by the way,” you muttered as you pressed your lips to his, your lashes fluttering as you close your eyes to savour his taste on your tongue.
jay moved his arms to wrap around your waist and brought you to his lap. the kiss deepened in the new position you two were in, and neither of you were thinking of pulling away just yet.
when you two finally broke the kiss to get some air, jay flashed you his charming smile as he fix your hair, making your stomach flutter.
“if i remembered correctly, that was your first kiss.” he said, and you felt your face growing hotter than it already was.
“god, shut up.” you groaned in annoyance as you hide your face in the crook of his neck. jay tighten his embrace around your waist and pressed a gentle kiss to your cheek.
“okay, pretty girl. anything for you.” he smiled against your skin. “by the way, i definitely googled who the killer was in the movie earlier.”
“asshole,” you mumbled into his neck.
